Summer  2014  CPA  Starter  Program  Schedule  

 

All  requests  for  course  approval  must  be  sent  to  Mr.  Julius  Wilson  at  

[email protected].    Do  not  send  any  requests  to  Professor  Michael  

Joseph  Tydlaska.    When  you  are  requesting  a  course  or  courses  to  Mr.  

Wilson  always  include  your  full  legal  name  and  DCCCCD  student  

identification  number  in  each  email  and/or  all  replies.  A  student  will  not  

be  approved  for  any  course  if  he  or  she  does  not  meet  the  prerequisites.    

Also  all  students  are  required  to  have  official  transcripts  on  file  at  MVC.    

Transcripts  should  be  received  by  Mr.  Wilson  a  minimum  of  90  days  

before  the  start  of  any  semester.    An  official  transcript  is  a  transcript  that  

is  sent  directly  from  the  college  you  attended  to  the  following  address:

You  the  student  cannot  mail  or  hand-­‐deliver  the  transcript(s)  as  this  

violates  accreditation  standards,  independence  and  verification.    You  

will  not  be  permitted  to  register  for  any  course  if  MVC  does  not  have  

official  transcripts  from  ALL  colleges  you  attended.    You  do  not  decide  on  

what  transcripts  must  be  sent  to  MVC.    If  you  have  attended  nine  colleges  

you  must  request  a  transcript  from  each  of  the  nine  colleges  to  be  sent  

directly  to  Mr.  Julius  Wilson  at  MVC.    Do  not  send  the  transcripts  to  the  

admissions  office  as  transcripts  sent  directly  to  admissions  are  not  

evaluated  for  at  least  six  months.  

 

If  a  course  is  not  listed  in  the  May  Semester  2014,  Summer  I  2014  

Semester  and/or  Summer  II  2014  Semester  it  is  not  being  offered.    Do  

not  request  any  courses  that  are  not  on  the  schedule.    The  summer  

schedule  is  very  limited.  

 

Please  read  the  dates  of  the  courses.    A  May  Semester  2014  course  is  a  

course  that  starts  in  May  it  does  not  necessarily  end  in  May.    The  course  

could  end  in  the  Summer  I  Semester  and/or  Summer  II  Semester.      A  

Summer  I  course  is  a  course  that  begins  sometime  in  the  Summer  I  

Semester  and  the  ending  date  is  not  relevant.    A  Summer  II  Semester  

course  is  a  course  that  begins  in  Summer  II  Semester  and  the  ending  

date  is  not  relevant.

ACNT 1335 – Accounting Ethics – May Semester 2014 Course

Instructor: Michael Joseph Tydlaska

ACNT 1335 is an upper division business related course as defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA). A student may not receive credit for both ACNT 1335 and ACNT 1340. ACNT 1335 is an approved 3-semester credit hour course to satisfy the mandatory accounting ethics requirement set fourth by the TSBPA.

Prerequisite: ACNT 1372 at the minimum or an upper division accounting course. ACCT 2301 and/or ACCT 2302 do not satisfy the prerequisite to enroll in ACNT 1335. Do not request the course if you have not satisfied the required academic credit.

ACNT 1335 is restricted to students who possess a Bachelors degree or higher. The student is required to be enrolled in ATC.ACCT.10 or ATC.ACCT.13 Certificate Plan.

Note A: Each student is required to have the textbook for the course. The required textbook is ‘Ethical Obligations and Decision Making in Accounting: Texts and Cases’, third edition by Mintz and Morris. The publisher is McGraw-Hill. The ISBN is 978-0-07-876221-3. You are not permitted to use the first edition or second edition. You are required to have the textbook by the third class day of class May 20, 2014. You are not permitted to photocopy the textbook or photocopy any portion of the textbook. There will not be any sharing of the textbook between students. Any student who does not have the required textbook will fail the course with an automatic ‘F’ regardless of your overall average. I will not allow any student to attend class if he or she does not have the required textbook on May 20, 2014 and each class day thereafter. The textbook may come in an electronic format known as an e-book. I do not support the utilizing of the e-book in the

classroom. The use of any electronic media is NOT permitted in the classroom. If you purchase the e-book you are required to print out the textbook chapters, exercises and problems before arriving in class. I will not allow any student to attend class if he or she does not have the required chapter material for each class.

Note B: Each student is required to purchase the Harvard Course packet. I will provide the URL during the first class on

May 16, 2014. Each student must purchase the course packet. You are not permitted to photocopy the cases or photocopy any portion of the cases. There will not be any sharing of the cases between students. Any student who does not purchase the require Harvard Course packet will fail the course with an automatic ‘F’ regardless of your overall average. I receive a listing of all students who purchase the Harvard Course packet from Harvard University. I will reconcile the list of students who purchased the Harvard Course packet with the class roster. I will not allow any student to attend class if he or she does not have the Harvard Course packet on May 20, 2014 and each class day thereafter.

Note C: Attendance is required for all class sessions. A student will be deducted five points for each occurrence from his

or her final average if he or she arrives to class fifteen minutes after the start of class, departs early from class or is absent from class. There will be one freebie. Any student who has two infractions will be deducted five points from his or her final average. Any student who has three infractions will be deducted ten points from his or her final average. Any student who has four or more infractions for arriving late, departing early or being absent will fail the course with an automatic ‘F’. It is

imperative that you are in attendance for the required class time. It is irrelevant if you are required to work late because of your job. You must accept the responsibility and the requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam in the State of Texas. Therefore you need to make arrangements with your supervisor by informing him or her of the requirements for the course. The only excuses that will be tolerated are a death in the family and if you or your immediate family is in the hospital. I will require some form of attestation. I will also verify to ensure the accuracy and validity of the excuse.

ACNT 1373 – Financial Accounting Reporting Standards I – May Semester 2014 Course

Instructor: Michael Joseph Tydlaska

ACNT 1373 is an upper division accounting course as defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. A student may not receive credit for both ACNT 1373 and ACNT 2303 or a course with a similar title such as Intermediate Accounting I.

Prerequisite: ACNT 1372 (Foundations of Accounting Operations and Disclosure). ACCT 2301 and/or ACCT 2302 do not satisfy the prerequisite to enroll in ACNT 1373. Do not request the course if you have not satisfied the required academic credit.

Note A: Each student is required to have the textbook for the course. The required textbook is ‘Intermediate Accounting with Wiley Plus’ 15th edition by Kieso, Weygandt and Warfield. Wiley Plus is not an option it is mandatory. Any student

who does not purchase Wiley Plus will fail the course with an automatic ‘F’ regardless of his or her overall average. The 15th

edition is required. The publisher is John Wiley and Sons. You are not permitted to use any other edition. There are various formats of the textbook such as the Wiley binder version (loose-leaf), the traditional hard cover and e-book known as the ‘All Access Pack’ for this particular textbook. I do not support the utilizing of the e-book in the classroom. The use of any electronic media is NOT permitted in the classroom. If you purchase the e-book you are required to print out the textbook chapters, exercises and problems before arriving in class. I will not allow any student to attend class if he or she does not have the required chapter material for each class.

the direct URL during the first class on May 19, 2014. Any student who does not purchase the license software for the course will fail the course with an automatic ‘F’ regardless of your overall average.

ACNT 2343 is an upper division accounting course as defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. A student may not receive credit for both ACNT 2343 and ACNT 2374 when the title of ACNT 2374 was Accounting Theory at Mountain View College.

Prerequisite: ACNT 1374 (Financial Accounting Reporting Standards II) or ACNT 2304 (Intermediate Accounting II). Do not request the course if you have not satisfied the required academic credit.

The ISBN is 978-1-1858-2794. You are not permitted to use any other edition. If you do purchase another edition you do this at your own risk. There will not be any reconciliation between the required 11th edition and any prior editions. There will not be any posting of new material that

deviates from the 11th edition and prior editions. There is no support from the faculty member for the utilization of an

electronic textbook known as an e-book.

The proctored comprehensive final exam can only be taken at Mountain View College. A student will not be approved to take the exam at any other location. The exam is closed textbook and notes are not permitted.

ACNT 1393 – Tax Research – Summer I Semester 2014 Course

ACNT 1393 is an upper division accounting course as defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA). ACNT 1393 is designated with the TSBPA as an approved accounting research course to satisfy the required accounting research requirement.

Prerequisites: ACNT 1277 (Taxation Procedures for Individuals) or ACNT 1331 (Federal Income Tax: Individual) AND ACNT 1278 (Taxation Procedures for C Corps and S Corps) or ACNT 1347 (Federal Income Tax for Partnerships and Corporations) or the equivalents. Do not request the course if you have not satisfied the required academic credit. ACNT 1393 is restricted to students who possess a Bachelors degree or higher. Commercial Transactions for Accountants falls under the Business Law discipline. A student may not receive credit for both ACNT 1371 and ACNT 1391 when the title of Commercial Transactions for Accountants at Mountain View College. A student will not receive qualifying credit by the

TSBPA if the student has received academic credit for any prior course such as Business Law and/or Legal Environment of Business from previous institutions attended.

academic credit for any prior course such as Principles of Finance. Corporate Finance, Managerial Finance and/or a course with a similar title.

Prerequisite: ACNT 1372 (Foundations of Accounting Operations and Disclosure) or an upper division accounting course or a Principles of Marketing course. ACNT 2345 – Technical Writing for Accountants – Summer II Semester 2014 Course

ACNT 2345 is an upper division business related course as defined by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA). A student may not receive credit for both ACNT 2345 and ACNT 1370. Technical Writing for Accountants falls under the Business Communication discipline. ACNT 2345 is designated with the TSBPA as an approved communications course to satisfy the required accounting communications requirement.

Prerequisite: ACNT 1373 (Financial Accounting Reporting Standards I) or ACNT 2303 (Intermediate Accounting I) or equivalent. Do not request the course if you have not satisfied the required academic credit.
