Grand Knight’s Report

Beloved Sir Knights, We are entering a new Columbian year with a new Faithful Navigator. Most of you know me but I will introduce my-self. My name is Bill (William ) Boles. I have

been a Knight since 1981 and a 4th Degree for six years.

JUL 2020

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Faithful Navigator for the 2020-2021 Columbian Year.

Thank you

for the

opportunity

Beloved Brothers & Sir Knights,

I pray that you and your family are safe and are still practicing the Social Distancing. Now that we are in Phase 3 of the re-turn to society, please be

cognizant about your surroundings as everyone gets back to their somewhat normal lifestyle. For those brothers who still need to shelter in place, remember that you have brothers willing and ea-gerly will assist you when needed.

As we enter 2020/21 Columbian Year, I would like to thank those Worthy Officers and Directors who are not serving another term. They were instrumental in the council success as we entered the Covid 19 Pandemic. Without their dedication to their office they served, we would not have delivered on the great results for our council. Special Thank You to Brother SK Steve Suess for his dedication in bringing our Safe Haven pro-gram current and his follow-through on all the new members as they were exemplified.

F. N.’s Message

. . . Continued

The new and returning Officers and Directors will play a big part on how we continue our success moving forward. I along with my officers will develop a plan on how our council will get back to some normalcy. The first part is to develop a protocol on how we can start having our face-to-face meeting. Unfortunately, this will not be an easy task. So, during our 1st Officers meeting for the new Columbian Year, we will strategize how and when this will happen. Once it is devel-oped and vetted out, I will send correspondence via email on the procedures.

In the coming months, we will also start looking at our fundraisers and see if they will still be happening. Especially, the ones that fall within the next 6 months. (Pie Sales, Arts & Craft Faire, etc.) So, if you have any other great fundraiser suggestions, please do bring them up in our monthly General Council Meeting.

As you receive this month’s newsletter, our 4th of July Firework Sale is under way. Please stop by and help or just say hi. We can always use the help. Especially, since we will be practicing social distancing and sanitizing often.

In closing, I pray for Christians in every neighborhood, community, and city: May your Holy Spirit inspire us to pray, to give, to love, to serve, and to proclaim the gospel, that the name of Jesus Christ might be glorified around the world.

Prayers & Blessings,

SK NICHOLAS C SUAREZ JR

Welcome Back to the Table

Scholarship Essays

Our scholarship competition has ended for this year with the theme “How to Love A Neighbor From A Distance (A COVID-19 Challenge). 2020 being a challenging year already due to the pandemic looked bleak in terms of potential responses to our scholarship contest. We are blessed to have 4 applicants, however 1 was incomplete.

The committee, comprised of Michael Barnea,

Mike Blakey and John Adricula is currently

reviewing eligible applicants and ranking them. The prize money is still the traditional $1000 per finalist in the top 3 with the differentiation of a certificate reflecting their respective place-ment. The committee so far had good remarks on the applicants and were impressed by their efforts.

Once we have the final rankings as a commit-tee, I will then proceed to select a future date sometime after the 4th of July and have a

repre-sentative from our Council present their award in person at their respective homes in a drive-by award ceremony style.

I am excited to begin the 2020 / 2021 Colum-bian Year as your Chancellor.

These are difficult times trying to recruit new Knights with the Covid 19 lurking around. I guess it just proves what your Mom said about washing your hands.

1) We are Priests at the Masses 2) We are Deacons at the Masses 3) We Usher, EM, Lector at the Masses 4) We lead a number of the ministries at

Good Shepherd

5) We support financially as well as physical help with the ministries at Good Shepherd 6) You will see Knights at SVdP and also

feeding the Homeless

These are just a few things the Knights of Co-lumbus Laguna Council # 11236 does at Good Shepherd.

Honor Guard

Beloved Honor Guard Team,

Still waiting any promising word from the Master on when we can begin practicing our craft, partici-pating in Masses and serving our parishioners of Good Shepherd. Just not yet. Be at the ready for when the call comes though. Practice those sword drills so you look like we never stopped practicing. I am so proud to be an Honor Guard Commander of St. John Paul ll Assembly. Our group has so much experience. I have been the recipient of a lot of great training. I’ll name a few guys and I’m sure you know them.

SK Tim Fukuda - Worthy. Sr. D.M. SK Gabe Eder - Past CCC

SK Larry Navarrette - Past CCC SK Terry Rees - Past FN / Faithful Admiral SK Nick Suarez - Worthy GK / PFN / Past CCC

SK Romeo Gonzalvo and SK Jess Velasco have been instrumental in teaching me how to march. I

know that sounds elementary but have YOU tried it? These guys are my friends. I have their back and I know they have mine.

I believe that soon we will begin our practices as Good Shepherd Parish opens up for Confirmations and Baptisms, as well as other functions. We will always be there for our Priests.

I am inviting you to join the Honor Guard. If you are able, log onto www.kofc.org and go to the uni-form page. It will give you the inuni-formation you need to have. Please call me with questions.

As Past Color Corp Commander SK Larry Navarrette has said, “We’re always looking for a few

good men!”

Please pray for our success.

Thank You, God Bless You, and Vivat Jesus!

It’s About Us!

Covid-19 Chuckles

If there’s a baby boom nine months from now, what will happen in 2033? There will be a whole bunch of quaranteens.

I ran out of toilet paper and had to start using old newspapers. Times are rough.

Back in my day you would cough to cover up a fart. Now, with COVID-19, you fart to cover up a cough.

Nail salons, hair salons, waxing center and tanning places were closed. It was really getting ugly out there.

The grocery stores in France look like tornadoes hit them. All that’s left is de brie.

I’ll tell you a coronavirus joke now, but you’ll have to wait two weeks to see if you got it.

Finland just closed its borders. You know what that means. No one will be crossing the finish line. What do you tell yourself when you wake up late for work and realize you have a fever? Self, I so late.

My husband purchased a world map and then gave me a dart and said, "Throw this and wherever it lands—that's where I'm taking you when this pan-demic ends." Turns out, we're spending two weeks behind the fridge.

I washed my hands so much because of COVID-19 that my exam notes from 1995 resurfaced.

Two grandmothers were bragging about their pre-cious darlings. One of them says to the other, "Mine are so good at social distancing, they won't even call me."

Ran out of toilet paper and started using lettuce leaves. Today was just the tip of the iceberg, to-morrow romaines to be seen.

All yoga instructors are now under nama-stay-at-home orders.

Airlines have been sending me a lot of "we're in this together" emails. But when my suitcase weighed 52 pounds, I was on my own.

Day 7 at home and the dog is looking at me like, "See? This is why I chew the furniture!"
