It is with immense pleasure that I send this message to the 12th

International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) organized by

the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) of the

University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Being the largest faculty of the

University, FMSC is involved in several annual academic and research

activities, and it is noteworthy to say that ICBM occupies a prominent

position in the annual university academic calendar. FMSC is holding this widely recognized

international conference for the 12th consecutive year of which I too held the post of conference

chairman twice, in its illustrious conference history.

I need to emphasize that an international research conference of this caliber provides a platform

where local and international researchers as well as the business community could interact and

share their knowledge and expertise in their chosen fields. I strongly believe that universities

should play a vital role in this kind of research engagement, which will pave the path to national

development and social prosperity. As the Vice Chancellor, I have initiated several steps in

promoting research and to foster a vibrant research culture in the University, which will

undoubtedly help in realizing the vision of the University ‘Prosper lives through education’ and

achieving the mission, create and disseminate knowledge for the prosperity of the nation while

preserving its cultural heritage. The theme of the 12th ICBM is ‘Future Sustainability,

Governance and Ethics. As far as I am concerned this is a timely theme which addresses

contemporary important managerial issues with regard to academia as well as corporate and

public-sector organizations. I fervently hope that strong and mutually beneficial links will be

created between the academia and the business community through the research presented and

discussed in the technical sessions. The journey towards national development cannot be

reached alone, and both the academic and business communities should join hands by sharing

their knowledge and expertise via conferences such as this.

The success of a conference of this nature depends on team effort. I am grateful to the Dean, the

Conference Co-chairs and the Conference Committee, and the members of FMSC for organizing

and making this conference a reality. Furthermore, I appreciate the local and foreign

researchers who shared their expertise and knowledge, and the business community for

actively taking part. I sincerely wish that our mutual partnership will lead our society to a

higher degree of economic and spiritual success.

As the Center of Excellence in Management Education in Sri Lanka, the

Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC), is delighted to

host the International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) for

the twelfth consecutive year. FMSC is committed to high quality teaching

and

research,

and

promoting

an

intellectually

stimulating

multidisciplinary environment.

ICBM is the apex event of the academic calendar of the faculty, and the theme selected after

careful consideration for this year is, “Future Sustainability, Governance and Ethics”. This

conference aims at promoting and publishing research thoughts on “Sustainability, Governance

and Ethics,” to disseminate knowledge on the theme to a wider community and to enhance the

links and the network between academics and practitioners.

I firmly believe that ICBM 2015, which is an enormous venture, would bring the industry and

the academia together. With this, I convey my very best wishes for the conference and to the

paper presenters while appreciating and admiring the commitment of the Organizing

Committee of ICBM 2015.

Dr. U. Anura Kumara

Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce

University of Sri Jayewardenepura

I am very happy to send this message on the occasion of the 12th

International Conference on Business Management of the Faculty of

Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri

Jayewardenepura. This year’s theme for the conference is Sustainability,

Governance and Ethics. It is a contemporary topic keeping abreast with

the world’s corporate practices. Sustainability is referred to as the “Triple

bottom line, namely environmental, social and economic”. Sustainability focuses on sustainable

development. This is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising

the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This conference will explore how

existing and new corporate governance mechanisms are being used to control the corporate

responsibility strategy. Today, they are not looking at the ethics of corporate governance but at

the governance of ethics.

Finally, I wish the organizing committee, every success at this conference.

Message from the Dean

(4)

It gives me great pleasure to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone

attending the 12th International Conference on Business Management

(ICBM -2015), in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I am pleased to welcome all the

conference emissaries on behalf of the Organizing Committee of this

annual event conducted by the Faculty of Management Studies and

Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The theme of the conference this year is ‘Future Sustainability, Governance and Ethics’, which is

a contemporary topic for discussion particularly in the Sri Lankan context, and which will

undoubtedly offer a valuable insight both in theory and practice with the input of several

leading academics and industry practitioners. Thus, ICBM 2015 aims to promote and publish

current and relevant ideas on sustainability, governance and ethics, which are vital and

dynamic, especially for corporate and public sector organizations, which play an important role

in improving the quality of life of all stakeholders.

I have no doubt that you will benefit greatly from the research presentations and discussions

scheduled. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I convey my best wishes to all the conference

participants who have contributed in making the conference a success.
