Christmas has come and gone but the goodwill and wonderful outpouring of gifts and

food provided by our communities will warm the hearts and stomachs of so very many of

our clients for a long time. Once again, local individuals, service organizations,

church-es, companies and staff donated time, monies and/or adopted families.

Because of the outstanding generosity, Tri-County was able to provide a wonderful

Christmas for 2,000 people. This total includes clients and their family members. Some

of the gifts distributed were bicycles, dolls, footballs, warm coats, personal items, sheets,

clothing, and food. We would like to extend our warmest thank-you to the many people

that gave with their hearts to make so many feel very special this year!

Thank you, Service Master by Century Construction

Best Diet Tips Ever

from Prevention Magazine

1.

Drink Plenty of Water

—people sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, so you end up

eating extra calories when water is all you need.

2.

Close the Kitchen After Dinner

—mindless eating occurs most frequently after

din-ner, when you sit down and relax. Snacking in front of the TV is the quickest ways to

throw off your diet.

3.

Be a Skinny Shopper

—eat your favorite foods in moderation. Buy one fresh bakery

cookie instead of a whole box; or buy one small portion of bulk candy instead of a

whole bag.

4.

Eat Several Mini-meals During the Day

—people who eat 4-5 meals or snacks each

day are able to better control their appetite and weight.

5.

Eat Protein at Every Meal

—protein is more satisfying than carbs or fats and keeps

you feeling fuller longer. Protein also preserves muscle mass and encourages fat

burn-ing.

6.

Add Spices to Your Meal

—spicy foods stimulate your taste buds and make you feel

more satisfied so you don’t eat as much.

7.

Order From the Kids Menu

—the smaller portions not only cut calories but it’s also

less expensive.

8.

Use Smaller Plates

—this makes your portions look bigger which is mentally more

sat-isfying.

9.

Always Eat Breakfast

—skipping breakfast can make you hungry later which can lead

to nibbling and overeating at lunch.

10.

Portion Out Snacks

—don’t eat food directly out of the container—measure one

serv-ing size into a baggy and eat only one servserv-ing per day.

Eat a high-protein breakfast every day.

Your mom was right: breakfast is in fact the most important meal of the day. But a bagel or cereal isn’t enough.

A 2013 study published in the

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

concluded that a high-protein breakfast of

eggs and meat was associated with health benefits throughout the day. People who ate the high-protein

break-fast

snacked less on junk food compared with people who ate cereal

. If you’re in a rush in the morning and

can’t cook breakfast, make some hard-boiled eggs the night before and pop them in your mouth on the way out

the door.

HEALTH & WELLNESS:

Workplace Wellness

We do a lot of sitting during a regular workday. We sit while driving to the office - sit working at a desk - sit while eating lunch - sit on the drive home - sit for dinner. We need to break up that inactive monotony!

There are many movements that can be quick and effective for getting more active during the workday. The idea is to move in a way that doesn't require recovery time and allows you to return to your desk work energized and focused.

Mixing up different movements and adding some walking to your day will make you feel better and more productive. The goal is simply to move your entire body on a regular basis. Be sure to mix upper- and lower-body movements.

TRY SOME of THESE IDEAS:

Take strolls up and down the stairs a few times a day.

Do a series of wall sits, squats, and jumping jacks for 10 minutes.

Take a few minutes to listen to yourself take deep breaths in and out focusing on just your breath - nothing else.

Do a series of upper and lower body stretches to get blood circulating.

Turn on some music - jog in place for 1 minute, march for 2, and jog for 1 more.

Do some "Deskercises"! See examples here: http://greatist.com/fitness/deskercise-33-ways-exercise-work

The benefits of purposeful movement during the workday are plentiful. Keep a pair of sneakers by your desk to remind you to get up and move. Try it - you won't regret it!
