pope Elementary Breaks
World Record
An unofficial count of 1,500 students, staff, and community members at Pope Elementary School joined together to break the Guinness World Record for the largest reading lesson. Although the record remains unofficial until all documentation is submitted and approved by Guinness, the Panthers appear to have broken the previous record of 1,350 participants.
technology fest Celebrates
Record Attendance
A total of 1,200 students, 176 teachers, and 3,428 guests participated in the fifth annual Cy-Fair Student Technology Festival, Ride the Digital Wave, held at the Berry Center. Hairgrove Elementary School fifth-grade student Leilani Lucero shares her presentation with a guest.

in Mock uN Conference
Student teams from Salyards and Arnold middle schools placed first in their respective competitions during the third annual Cy-Fair ISD Middle School Mock UN Conference, held at Cypress Lakes High School. Engineer Your World
Cypress Ranch teacher Jeff Shull challenged his students to engineer to make things better during their aerial imaging systems week. Seniors Amanda Nolan, Brent Holcombe, and Joey Spillane prepare to launch their aerial imaging device with Shull in their engineering design and problem-solving class through the UTeach Engineering curriculum program, Engineer Your World.

Commitment to Graduate
Cypress Woods High School students welcomed their future classmates, eighth-grade students at Spillane Middle School, with the “Commitment to Graduate” program. The eighth-grade students signed a Class of 2018 banner as a commitment to graduate and wrote their goals for their high school years, which will be kept in a time capsule until their senior breakfast in 2018.
Journalism Students Win Awards
Students from five Cy-Fair ISD high schools won awards at the Interscholastic League Press Conference held at the University of Texas. Jersey Village High School’s JVTV program won a silver star in the competition. Elementary Schools
International Bridge donated 900 total tree seedlings to Sampson and Sheridan elementary schools. The Cy-Fair ISD “Garden Lady,” Stephanie Baker, of Ready to Grow Gardens provided planting lessons. Showcases Excellence
Cypress Christian School junior, Avery Barbisch, received congratulations on her award-winning colored drawing portrait of fallen Warrior Travis Chaffin who went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2013. Qualified judges from the TAPPS Art Leadership and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor chose her piece to be featured in the 2014 TAPPS Showcase of Excellence, which is an event that features select award-winning works of art from the TAPPS state meet.

Become State Champs at uiL
Cypress Creek High School seniors Caro Achar (first place, persuasive speaking), Christian Kimbell (top 10, persuasive speaking), and sophomore Rosalind Williamson (second place, editorial writing) placed in their respective events at the UIL Academics spring meet at the University of Texas at Austin. For placing at the meet, the Cy-Fair ISD students qualified for Texas Interscholastic League Foundation scholarships.

All-Earth EcoBot Challenge
Eight teams from Cy-Fair ISD competed in the 2014 All-Earth EcoBot Challenge hosted by the Education Foundation of Harris County. The event challenged teams to use LEGO Mindstorm robots and computers to complete real-world missions on a competition timetable. Smith Middle School’s team had the highest Cy-Fair ISD score.
Ault Elementary welcomes new principal
Jeff LaCoke accepted the position as new principal at Ault Elementary. LaCoke has 16 years of experience in the district, beginning his career at Sheridan Elementary School where he taught fourth and fifth grades. Later, he served at Frazier as assistant principal for seven years and their principal since 2008.
Campbell Middle school Band
wins grand Champion Award
The Campbell Middle School symphonic band received unanimous first-division ratings, the Best in Class Award, and the Grand Champion Best Band Award during the Alamo Showcase of Music in San Antonio.
key Clubs place in the Top 20
Four Cy-Fair ISD Key Clubs placed in the top 20 at the Texas-Oklahoma District Convention. The winners from the district were Cypress Ranch Key Club, second; Cypress Falls, third; Cypress Woods, fifth; and Cypress Creek, 18th.
Langham Creek science olympiad Takes state
Langham Creek High School led Cy-Fair ISD by taking fourth place at the Texas Science Olympiad at Texas A&M University with 156 points. Cypress Falls High School took fifth place with 161 points. Other notables were Cy Woods, 12th; Cy Ranch, 13th; Cy-Fair, 21st; and Cy Lakes, 24th.
