ASEE  2015  North  Central  Section  Conference

April  17-‐18,  2015,  University  of  Cincinnati,  Cincinnati,  OH

Chair’s Column: Andrew Kline, Western Michigan University

Engineers and Friends,

Greetings from Kalamazoo, MI, where we are wrapping up the Fall 2014 semester activities and working towards launching the new semester in January 2015. As we move through another academic year, it is good to reflect on where we have been and where we are going with the ASEE North Central Section (NCS).

The Spring 2014 regional conference was held at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI on April 4 and 5, and had participation from 122 people, including a large group of 55 total students at the graduate and undergraduate level. The 2015 regional conference will be hosted at the University of Cincinnati on April 17 and 18, 2015, and links to their website for further information can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. I am also pleased to announce that Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI has agreed to host the regional conference for the ASEE North Central Section in Spring 2016.

The Spring 2015 regional conference will also see a change in the section’s leadership,

for the Executive Board positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, and three positions of Director. The Executive Board has recently completed a review of our sections’ Constitution and By-Laws. We will be sending information on recommend changes to the Constitution and By-laws to all section members by e-mail before the regional conference in Cincinnati, OH, so that we can discuss and vote on the changes at the conference. Please consider participating in the upcoming conference by attending and presenting some of your current work. For those who have attended the regional conference in the past, I

encourage you to bring someone with you in April 2015 who has not previously attended. Presentations by graduate and undergraduate students are also encouraged and welcomed as part of the regional conference. Our region has had several degree programs in

engineering education added at campuses in the last few years, and our conference provides an opportunity for students and faculty to showcase engineering education pedagogy efforts as well as other project or

involved with section if you wish.

Information on the Executive Board elections and the Spring 2015 Regional Conference have been sent to all section members by e-mail, and we will continue to send updates and reminders for you to review, and respond to if you so choose. Being a member of the Executive Board does require a commitment on your part to attend two Executive Board meetings per year, and participate in other Executive Board business by e-mail. You will however be rewarded by getting a better idea of what others in our section are

working on. The continued success of the ASEE NCS regional conference assures us of an organized event for our faculty and

students to present their research in a professional setting at a reasonable travel cost.

As my time as section Chair draws to a close, I am grateful for all those who have stepped forward to do needed work to make the section a success. We have commitments from highly organized and industrious people to host the upcoming regional conferences in 2015 and 2016. I look forward on continuing to have some involvement with the Executive Board starting in June 2015 as the Past Chair. Andrew Kline
