Fujitsu Extends SAP to the Cloud

Fujitsu Cloud for SAP is a locally based cloud services platform for Australian customers to extend their SAP footprint into a more flexible and serviced based deployment model. Based on Fujitsu’s award winning Flexframe management software, Fujitsu Cloud for SAP supports all leading SAP databases such as Oracle, DB2, SAP ASE, as well as SAP HANA®. This offers customers the benefit of operating all SAP systems - HANA and traditional - within the same environment.

Whether new to SAP HANA or already benefiting from the real-time decision-making capability, Fujitsu Cloud for SAP provides a low risk cloud solution that enables organizations to adopt or extend capability with SAP HANA on a quick and low risk level. There are no upfront investments for

equipment, nor is there a need to train or hire database specialists to handle specialized HANA operations. Fujitsu Cloud for SAP provides organisations with clearly defined SLA’s and leverages Fujitsu technologies for computing resources and NetApp solutions for storage management.

Introducing Fujitsu Flexframe

Fujitsu Flexframe is our cloud computing platform for SAP, designed to optimally manage SAP workloads. Flexframe is a cloud enabling computing architecture that uses Intel based hardware with a Linux operating system to deliver the high performance, commodity computing solution that today’s organizations seek to host their SAP systems. More importantly, Flexframe has proven success - it is currently installed and in operation in over 250 customer accounts that together host approximately 12,000 SAP systems.

Storage virtualization is as critical as server virtualization to realize the full benefits of cloud computing. Leveraging NetApp’s Data ONTAP storage, customers can optimize storage capacity by placing the right data on the right tier of disk, protect and recover data using ONTAP data protection software and create clones of existing systems to facilitate rapid provisioning of new SAP systems.

SAP HANA - What it’s all About

Fast access to vast amounts of data (Big Data) has become a crucial business driver for many companies. SAP’s answer to this is SAP HANA - a database which is centered on

in-memory technology.

SAP HANA provides customers with real-time insight into operations, thus enabling fast analysis and quick simulations based on current data to uncover trends and patterns. Due to its capabilities, SAP HANA is expected to become the foundation for most of SAP‘s applications, whether they are on-premise or in the cloud.

SAP HANA will undoubtedly deliver significant benefits but SAP customers still have concerns, including:

■ Ostensibly high capital costs for SAP certified HANA hardware

■ Expensive High Availability (HA) concepts and lack of specialised skills for SAP HANA operational support ■ Doubts about business value – not least because of the costs for the points above

Fujitsu Cloud for SAP offers customers the flexibility to take advantage of SAP HANA today, without needing to invest upfront in HANA appliances. Furthermore, Fujitsu Cloud offers a proven SAP management platform that treats SAP HANA and classic workloads in a single unified way. High availability for SAP can be easily delivered using dedicated or shared standby servers in the Fujitsu Cloud. As the benefits of SAP HANA are realised by the business the customer can progressively move from classic to the HANA database over time, thereby aligning expenditure with business return.
