Introduction
This guide shows how to configure Kofax Front-Office Server to send documents by email through an SMTP server. When you release a document to email, index fields appear for entering the recipient email addresses, a subject, and any message you want to provide. You can specify multiple recipients by separating email addresses with commas or semicolons.

System Requirements
Configure the email server you will use for sending documents with Kofax Front-Office Server as follows:
Create a user account to be specified in the rs.connector.smtp.properties file. This user
account will be used by all Kofax Front-Office Server users (including the administrative and default user accounts) to authenticate the connection to the email server.
Use port 25.
Disable Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL is not supported when sending documents from
Kofax Front-Office Server Web Client.
Sender Email Address
The sender email address for the message is determined as follows:
The email address of the user logged on Kofax Front-Office Server is used, if an email
address is provided in the directory service.
If an email address cannot be identified for the user, or if the user has not logged on, the
default email address specified in the rs.connector.smtp.properties file is used.
If a default email address is blank or not defined in the rs.connector.smtp.properties file,
the name of the logged on user is used.

Copy and edit the necessary files to configure Kofax Front-Office Server for SMTP. X To configure Kofax Front-Office Server for SMTP
1 Copy rs.connector.smtp.properties from the \Resources\setup folder to the
\Avalin\jboss\server\avalin\conf folder where Kofax Front-Office Server is installed. 2 Open rs.connector.smtp.properties in a text editor. Modify the properties, and then save
and close the file.
Note If you set required-authentication to true and do not supply a valid user name and password, a “Release Server: 530 Authentication required” error is generated when you attempt to release a document to email.
3 Deploy RSModuleConnectorSMTP.ear by copying the file from the \Resources\setup folder to the \Avalin\jboss\server\avalin\deploy folder where Kofax Front-Office Server is installed.
4 Stop and restart Kofax Front-Office Server.
5 Use Kofax Front-Office Server Administration Console to enable the destination type. Refer to the Kofax Front-Office Server Administration Console Help for instructions. To display an email destination on the MFP front panel, create and deploy shortcuts with Kofax Front-Office Server Web Client and Kofax Front-Office Server Administration Console. Refer to the Help for these applications for information.

Why does SMTP not display as a destination type in Kofax Front-Office Server Web Client? Check the following:
Make sure you have performed the procedures shown in Configuring Kofax Front-Office
Server.
Enable the SMTP destination type in Kofax Front-Office Server Administration Console. Refresh the browser window.
When I send an email, I get a “Release Server: 530 Authentication required” error.
In the rs.connector.smtp.properties file, make sure that you have specified the user name and password of an email account on the server.
When I send an email, I get the following error: “An error has occurred in the Release Server: Could not connect to SMTP host: host name, port: 25; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect.“

are available to all users of an MFP. Users can create their own shortcuts with Kofax Front-Office Server Web Client.
Why is a user’s email address not provided?
Make sure that the user has an email address assigned in the directory service. If an email address is not provided in the directory service, or if the user did not log on, the default email address supplied in the rs.connector.smtp.properties file. Refer to Sender Email Address for more information.
