Summary

No change in membership in 2020.

Coordinator’s contract extended into 2022.

Published articles in national magazine for

municipal technical experts and the Wadden

Sea National Park magazine’s 10-year

anniversary edition.

Representation of KIMO: 7 presentations (2 for

municipalities), 1information booth.

One face to face national board meetings was

held in December 2019. An on-line meeting

was held in September 2020.

Summary

KIMO Norway was formed in May 2020.

Arendal has taken the responsibility for

coordinating this new national group for this

first period.

Local beach cleaning actions have been carried

out in the member municipalities.

The members have participated in cleaning up

after the plastic pellet spill from MV Trans

Carrier in February.

Bergen and Arendal have adopted a plan

against plastic and marine litter.

Looking ahead

New national digital portal for beach cleaning:

Rydde.

The NRK Telethon 2020 goes to WWF’s fight

on plastic pollution. All municipalities take part.

Arendal will have the annual beach cleaning for

schools during this campaign.

Continue collaboration with ‘Våre Strender’ –

Our Beaches, and their program for how

businesses, schools, organisations, families and

other groups can adopt a beach.

a row! Adopted resolution on scrubbers,

announced winner of scholarship and discussed

plastic pellet spill from MC Trans Carrier.

Resolution 2020/01

Prohibiting or setting strict limits on wash water from scrubbers in ships

KIMO Resolution 2020/01

Recognizing the need for a clean environment in and around the Northern- and Baltic seas and the

threat posed to marine ecosystems by wash water pollutants from scrubbers in ships.

Urges:

European Governments, the European Commission and International Maritime Organization to

take vigorous action to ban or set strict limits regarding discharge of wash water from scrubbers

in shipping for the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, so that it does not compromise achievement of

good environmental status and good ecological and chemical status;

European Governments to take unilateral action to ban the discharge of wash water from

scrubbers in ports and coastal areas and in Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs).

KIMO members:

Agree to submit this Resolution to all National Governments, the European Commission, the

International Maritime Organization and other relevant organizations.

Resolution 2020/02

Prohibition of plastic confetti

KIMO Resolution 2020/02

Recognizing the need for a clean environment in and around the Northern- and Baltic seas

and the threat posed to marine ecosystems by the use of plastic confetti.

Urges:

European Governments and the European Commission to take action to ban the selling

of confetti that contains plastics in order to minimize this source of spread of plastics

into the Baltic Sea and the North Sea;

Plastic confetti be added to the list of prohibited products in the Directive on Single Use

Plastics, and thereafter implemented in national legislation.

KIMO members:

Agree to submit this Resolution to all National Governments, the European Commission

and other relevant organizations.
