The best employers honoured
Zurich, 17 September 2015.
The Swiss Arbeitgeber Award was presented for the 15th time to the best employers at a ceremony held in Zurich last night. The winners in the four categories come from completely different sectors, showing that em-ployee satisfaction and commitment do not depend on the type of work and the professional group.
And the judges were those who know best: the employees. 27,252 employees from 118 companies rated their own employers in Switzerland's largest employee survey. They answered 55 questions covering the core aspects of their working lives and rated their job content, structures and procedures, collaboration within the company, dealing with changes, management leadership, employee development, and remuneration systems to name just a few.
The people deciding on the winners of the Swiss Arbeitgeber Award 2015 are laundry workers, engineers, techni-cians, and scientists. The employees at the winning companies in the small, medium and large business categories have one thing in common – they feel that, despite varying job content and working conditions, they are support-ed by their employers, as their responses to the survey for the Swiss Arbeitgeber Award 2015 reveal. This moti-vates them to show commitment and perform their best for their employers on a daily basis, demonstrating that skilful leadership, whether in a laundry or in a large pharmaceutical company, makes for committed and satisfied employees.

What makes the best so different
The winners differ from other companies in three aspects. First, the best employers respond rapidly to changes forced on them by the market or by new technologies, and they accompany their employees as best they can through these often challenging processes. Second, management teams are given top marks by their staff be-cause they provide information quickly, openly and at frequent intervals, maintain close contact to their employ-ees and exemplify shared values in their actions and are, therefore, perceived to be a homogeneous unit. Third, pay is regarded as appropriate compared to other employees, commensurate with employees' performance and commitment.
What employees think
Employees in the winning companies are committed and satisfied, regard their jobs as attractive and recommend their employers to others. However, the survey also shows that there are great differences between sectors when it comes to the criteria of commitment, overall satisfaction and attractiveness of the employer. Completely differ-ent sectors achieved top ratings in these fields.
Commitment 1) Construction/real estate 2) Trade 3) Industry Overall satisfaction 1) Administration/school/NPO 2) Hotel 3) Trade
Attractiveness of the employer
1) Information technology 2) Hotel
3) Construction/real estate
The Swiss Arbeitgeber Award
A noticeably greater number of companies from the services, energy, pharmaceuticals/medical engineering and transportation sectors submitted entries for the Swiss Arbeitgeber Award 2015 than the previous year. In con-trast, the number of participants from industry and retail in particular decreased. Most companies (38%) partici-pate in the employee survey every two years. Those companies taking part receive detailed analyses that provide them with valuable information and support for their organisation and staff management.
