interesting about it, is that Glen and John are sourcing and using the old original figures that were available at the time. Glen tells me that he wants to collect at least 1500 points of every army that was around back then. John will just probably have to open some old blisters and boxes out of his shed. They have posted online about the games that they’ve played, some of which are shown in this issue. Just a note that you can play 3rd Edition with old OR new miniatures, these guys are just diehards.
I am negotiating a deal with an amazing artist and tattooist for Snake Eyes. I saw her work and have approached her to promote her fantasy themed drawings. If all goes well we will be showing her skills off on the July cover of Snake Eyes.
As usual, send your sub-missions in to: Garagegamersgroup@ gmail.com and put Editor in the subject line.
SEE YOU THERE Hi Everyone,
I hope you’ve had a good month.
The cover photo is of a Crimson Fist Space Marine sent to me by Scott of Warpforged Miniatures. There has been a lot of work by Warpforged Miniatures on the internet and you may have seen some on Facebook, where WFM has a page. You can see more of Scott’s work, in this issue and the good news is, that he does do commissions.
PentaCon is nearly on us. For readers who do not know what PentaCon is all about, here is a brief summary. Most gaming tournaments, are playing one game. For example a WH40k tournament is one, two or even three days of playing only WH40k. PentaCon on the other hand is a tournament of playing different games. In this case a one day tournament of 5 different games. This allows the gamer to experience a variety of games that may be outside of their normal gaming experience. The games are selected on them being a quick game and/or quick to learn. A
major difference is that the gamer turns up and every-thing is provided for in the game as opposed to that gamer having to bring miniatures and rulebooks and dice, tape measures etc. The limit of gamers for the tournament is ten. The date had to be changed for this PentaCon, and is now on Sunday, June 8 at 31 Weymouth Street, Bundamba.
7th Edition WH40k is out, as a three rulebook set. Apparently it is the combination of other books such as Stronghold and Escalation as well as Death from the Skies that were all released separately. With the added rule tweaks, some love it and some hate it. I will wait and see. The rumour that a box set of Orks and Blood Angels is still running around the net, but a source at GW has said that there will be no such box set. That would be a change from every other GW release, but time will tell.
GGG members John McDonnell and Glen Taylor have been re visiting the past by staging their own 3rd edition Warhammer or Oldhammer as it is being called now. What’s

up and left for me and friends to come along and make use of them. Is this a pipe dream? Only if I never had the money to buy the land to do this, but until that day I will have to be satisfied with what I have in my garage now. Thankfully with enough gaming friends with differing tastes in tables and terrain, I can get the variety I look for if I need to. That being said, I prefer to game at home if I can, having most of what I need here. I have
regular opponents who will come to my place to play, which suits me fine. If you are fortunate enough to have a garage or gaming room or under the house gaming area already, then this may or may not apply. From next issue I want to talk about the basics of wargaming. How to make your own tables with options, depending on your prefer-ences. Where to get your ma-terials and what to ask for.
about collecting some bags of sawdust. They usually don’t mind, and once passed the embarrass-ment of scraping wood shavings off the floor you can then go home and start the fun. Grab a kitchen sieve and place the shav-ings and sawdust into the bowl of the sieve and gently sift the small-er particles into a containsmall-er, pref-erably a rectangular plastic
con-tainer. After this step, use some food colouring and water and mix your choice of colour into the sawdust. Let this soak for a day, drain off any leftover liquid then place in an area where it is in di-rect sunlight and won’t be kicked or disturbed. Once dry you will have enough for many bases and tabletops. This tip also works with fine beach sand. Good luck. with on the whole, certainly not
as pliable or changeable as plastic but it can be recycled over and over again as your taste or painting style changes. The other non-metal mediums are not so forgiving. Personally I’m waiting for the figure manufacturers to tell use in the years to come that the plastic is biodegradable and that collections will eventually disintegrate and become worth-less. It seems to me that the miniature companies (like the big one everyone loves to hate) are
adopting the disposable economy where you are constantly forced to buy replacements as the old one wear out. For example I had a fridge made in the 60’s that lasted me will into the 90’s, while in that same duration I have gone through 4 washing machines. The current one is rusting. Okay it is an analogy but you can get the gist of what I’m writing (I hope). With the advent of 3D printers what will happen with the collectible side of the hobby? Next time my favourite hobby horse – what is the cost of collecting!
Where do I see any “profit” in collecting in the years to come? I only use that word as it’s the best I can come up with to explain the philosophy of collecting. Metal. That’s right, metal figures will be the new “gold standard” in minia-tures for the future. With many companies moving to plastic, resin or other composites, it’s going to become more and more self evi-dent that metal figures will hold their own in the years to come. As every miniature gamer knows metal is easy to strip, and work

The only way that I could see myself being satisfied in my hobby is to have a big enough shed or three double car sized ones, where I could make enough tables that were themed to a particular army, like a Fanta-sy Dwarf modular terrain table, and enough tables that were colour coded for particular scen-ery like winter, desert, jungle, city, plains etcetera, and to have enough room for random gaming tables for WW2 and Epic and Man O War that can just be set
Basing your figures and tabletops for your gaming share the need to decorate. Basing on a model looks great as it does on a table. The options for fake grass prod-ucts for example are many and a lot are quite expensive. Have you thought about making your own? GGG members Glen Taylor and John McDonnell, both old wargamers in their own right, have been re visiting Warhammer. Not the current 8th Edition but the 3rd, known now as Oldhammer, as coined by James Taylor, who runs a blog and hosts a Facebook group page on the subject. John and Glen to date have played a few games against each other, using Chaos, Beastmen, Old Slann, Orcs & Goblins. It’s great to see old miniatures like these back on the gaming table and out of the dis-play cabinet. I’ve just had my first game, Friday just gone, (Photos to come), and really enjoyed the experi-ence. I had not played that edition, and cut my teeth on fourth edition Warhammer. There will be more in future on these games as more people join the ranks. My Wood Elves saw their first game ever with me, and I bought them second hand way back in 1993. I think that Glen took it easy on me. Oh well...more practice...

Dark Heresy
is a role playing game set in the grim darkness of the 41stmillennium , the decaying dark future of Warhammer 40,000. Below is the continuing background story of Bekki Imam, GGG member Simon Machins’ character in Dark Heresy, continued from last issue.
Sister Krankies diaries Part 6
My name is Bekki Imam, I am an Acolyte of the Handmaidens of the Emperor, an Adepta Sororitas.
We entered the prison block area and discovered a prisoner in stasis. We made the decision to wake him. When he came to, we interrogated him. He says that he was brought here by Hastus to help him search for information. I didn't like him for some reason or gut instinct and had an itch to leave. I took sentry duty while they integrated him more forcibly. The Arbiter and Grim
Trauma had the duty. They didn't get much more information. Grim trauma was making the prisoner feel ill, with his Psychic Blankness. Because of this we deduced that the prisoner was a Psyker. He then tried to use his powers. Grim reacted and tried
to kill him.
I was oblivious to this as both the Guardsman, myself and the Commander were outside of the cell. I decided to investigate the far passage and discovered a holy chapel. The chapel was still consecrated. I breathed a sigh of relief. I searched the chapel and
discovered that it was the chapel of a Grey Knight Space Marine, indicated by the sigils I found. I have never heard of the chapter before. I find two books. One, an inspirational devotional text and the other that details daemonic entities. I only
quickly scanned them both avoiding any "bad witchy stuff" as Brawn says, and trusting in my faith in the Emperor. I also discovered a sectioned off room containing what looks like a very well made bolter that is very large, as it is Space Marine
sized. The door to the Armory is locked and I cannot open it.
I stopped my searching as I heard on the communication device that the team has detected the Xenos, and they have attacked the Arbiter, (who must have exchanged duties with the Guardsman), and the Commander. I rush down the corridor, cursing my
lapse of duty, in time to see the alien xenoforms attack my squad. The Arbiter proved he was a reliant warrior by not only bearing the brunt of a genestealer attack, but also blasting the xenos into chunks. We repell the xenos somehow. They look thin and emancipated but they still moved like lightning. Their claws seemed to slice through armour like butter. Yes, I thought,
very skilled or very lucky was the Arbiter.
I go past the cell that housed the psyker, and saw he was dead. It looks like Grim Trauma is up to his old tricks again. He is vermin. He fulfils a role in this team but I despise him so. The Emperor is not with him.
We continue through the prison and find another security room in which a old cyber mastiff is powered down. We search the surrounding area and find its controlling collar. Under orders of the Commander, the Arbiter and the Tech Priest try and get the cyber mastiff functioning. Eventually they manage to, and the cyber mastiff comes online. It obeys the Arbiter completely.
He is uses it to search the immediate area for problems. None are found.
Further searching of the prison level we discover an abomination of chaos. It is securely locked in its prison cell but it saw us as
S N A K E E Y E S
as we crept past its door. It was not in status. We move past it quickly and get stopped then, by a security bulk head door. The Tech Priest eventually opens it and we continue. We go through a lot of doors on this level. We hear a noise coming from behind us. The Abomination. It must’ve worked up to such a frenzy by seeing us, that it has broke through the cell door. May-be age has weakened the door. Although we are some way from it, the force of it’s assault on the bulkhead door, sends vibra-tions through the soles of my feet. It is trying to get to us. The Tech Priest opens up the next set of security doors and I take it
upon myself to take rear guard, receiving a knowing look from the Commander. I close each set as we go through, and make sure I lock them.
Eventually we find the personal chambers of the Inquisitor Arazmous. We enter the passcode we have and gain entry. We discovered the chambers of the Inquisitor was guarded by the Grey Knight Space Marine. We see no response of the Grey Knight in front of us, standing in his suit of terminator armour. The Tech Priest removed the terminator helmet and we find he
has been dead for some time, possibly even centuries. I remove his medallion and keep it safe. The Tech Priest jacked a cable into the helmet and tries to download any information, after powering up the helmet from his own source. He falls to the ground, unconscious, due to what seems to be overload. I am surprised that he managed to retrieve anything. When he re-gained consciousness, he said that he accessed something but there was too much information. I underestimated him, he has
potential, even if he is still young.
We keep the helmet for later , not being able to transport the suit, so we can return it to the Space Marine chapter, if possible. We gain access to the inquisitors data storage area and download all the information form the helmet.
We send a fake copy to the Ensign. I am not happy about this and make it known to the rest of the squad. We then found an emergency exit and escaped the area. We know the genestealers are still out in the prison along with the chaos spawn. We
hear it still, at the door of the chambers.
As we travel down the emergency exit, we find a passage leading to the chapel. As it happens, the exit is in the back of the armoury. I see the bolter before me and feel the holiness radiating from it. I reach out to the bolter. It was the most exquisite item i have ever laid eyes on. It lines are perfect, its machine spirit reaches out to me and we commune. The spirit of the bolter
sees my soul and accepts me. It gives me it blessing to use. It is a holy relic bolter of the Grey Knights Space Marine chapter, a chapter dedicated to eradication of daemon kind in all their form. It seems to hate the daemons of Slannesh most. I reverently
strap on bolter. It is heavy and not built for human hands but the machine spirit says it will guide me, and my hand feels auto-matically for the suspensor. I trigger the button and immediately feel the weapon almost become weightless.
We make good our escape. We leave the prison area and meet up with Hastus and the Ensign. We give ensign the data he re-quested. Hastus wants the data but we decide he must come with us before we give it to him. We are suspicious because of
the encounter with the psyker.

GGG Member Ross Williams plays Flames of War, a 1/144 scale WW2. There is also Modern Warfare and Vietnam in this system from Battlefront in NZ. Ross posted some pictures from a game he participated in at a place simply called...The Shed. The table length is huge, at 14 feet long by 4 feet wide. Ross said that the gamers only managed three turns but will be back at it in a couple of weeks. For those that like to zoom in on the pictures, the game being played is a WW2 Italy campaign.

The new Ogryn pack, or should I say Bullgryns. Better value than their predecessor met-als, and being plastic, they are a lot more open to conversions. That being said, it would seem that the basic body type of plastic miniatures where you could fit any arm piece straight on to the miniature seems to be going, going, gone. Fully moulded pieces where you have to match one piece to the next, and note the number on the sprue frame to the piece that you are cutting up, is the latest thing I have noticed with my recent purchases. Has to be by the book (instructions) or it might not fit. The new metals looked good com-pared to the old, but at $35 per figure, fielding Ogryns were an expensive option. Now for not much more out of pocket you can now have two packs, and field 3 Ogryns and 3 Bullgryns.
What I have done as I only had two of the newer metal ones was to make a Nork Deddog, (how could I not) and 2 plastic Ogryns giving me my usual 5 that I normally run with. I like the plastics (as I was very much always a metal miniature fan), now that they have a lot more options than any of the metal kits had, even the character ones. Imagine trying to glue that cigar in Norks mouth on a metal miniature. Ok, yes it can be done but what a lot of mucking around. As you can see by the bottom photo, the later metal Ogryns and the new ones are much more of a similar size, as opposed to the old one pictured who is markedly smaller. If it doesn’t upset any OCD actions then feel free to run them all together. After all it’s your army. I haven’t seen the new rules but three Ogryns and a Chimera go together nicely, so they can get across that battlefield and deal with the enemies of mankind. Have fun...

Raider, a very nice conversion with many looted parts, (a cruel waste of kits-Ed) and sure to attract attention
at the next Apocolypse game. On the bottom right is a conversion by Simon, of a Taurox. It’s a new kit for the

pieces with wheels, a simple but great looking conversion, that looks better than the original piece. In fact it
makes me want one.

LOKA is a fantastically sculpted Chess sets and a brand new take on playing Chess, brought to you by River Horse.
LOKA is played with fantasy-inspired Chess pieces, each evoking the powerful imagery of one of the four elements.
At its heart, LOKA uses the rules of Chess, and Alessio has some significant twists in mind in the form of new mechanics:
Choose your army - Each player get to choose which pieces they put onto the board, meaning both players command different ar-mies on the battlefield – do you field a small but elite force with three Queens, or do you go for a mass horde of Pawns?
Fantasy Scenery – Change the shape of the battlefield with move-ment blocking terrain that alters the path you’ll take into combat. Dice Driven Combat – a simple and elegant system using eight sided dice adds some unpredictability to combat, placing extra emphasis on strategy and positioning as pieces build in power with support from their comrades."
Shuuro is the core of a new system of abstract war gaming, where you are in command of armies of chess pieces. Differently from traditional chess, you are not forced to field a giv-en set of pieces on the board, but can choose which pieces to field, based on your skill and tactical preferences. The innovative gaming board features ter-rain elements that change position eve-ry time you play, so that each game introduces a different challenge.
Shuuro is a game for two players, which merges the precision and rigour of chess with the creativity and variety of war-gaming.
It does so by attaching a points value to each traditional chess piece and allow-ing the players to spend a predeter-mined amount of these points (say, a total of 800 points) to select the chess ‘army’ that they think makes the best use of the points. This creates a feeling of ‘ownership’ towards the particular combination the player thinks is the most effective.
The ‘battle’ will then take place on a large chess board of twelve by twelve squares. This board, however, also introduces a new and unique element to the game. Each of the four six-by-six quadrants of the board contains two plinths that block the move-ment of the pieces. These plinths are placed randomly at the beginning of every game with the help of a dice, ensuring that every game will be different and present unique challenges. The plinths also help in balancing the game, restricting the move-ment of Queens, Bishops and Rooks, while at the same time allowing Knights to land onto them and using them as defensive positions (as only an enemy Knight can take them while they’re there). It is worth noting that game box also includes a normal chessboard and full rules for traditional chess, making it good to learn chess and allowing players to engage in this great classic as well as the innovative Shuuro.

Well this I hope will be the first of many reports that I submit. Having said that this time round, I am find myself
thinking back to the good old days. They are strong in my memory but there aren’t many photo's to see, if any
at all. Most of the armies are gone, terrain is broken or lost and venues are no more. The players, well some
have passed on, others have left the hobby and some players have moved away. What ever the reason you
don't get the chance to do it again. It is a moment lost in time. Time travel, that is the key.
Today I played my third game of 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy. My opponent was my cousin, Nick (Snake
Eyes Editor), and I’ve had two games against John McDonnell to date, with the next game scheduled for
tomorrow. These same guys I played against and with over ten plus years ago. Well I can say that it was a
blast from the past and showed me that the past is never lost. This time we have the photo's to show and
keep for the memories. On a sad note I have heard that an old wargaming friend Frank Doslik is not well. If
you ever played at Frank's, or in a game that he ran you will know how much he loved wargaming. I hope he
will recover and hope I can spread the joy he did.

Belial, to give him Terminators as troop choices, (my advice a while back), and with that combination has won the last two games. Meanwhile I finally bought some Wall of Martyrs terrain, plus a Redoubt and added my Bastion to this mix. Tim includes a Bastion in his army most of the time and this time was no different. He had allied with an-other Space Marine army, allowing him to field a Thunderfire Cannon, something the Dark Angels cannot use in their army. So basically his army included Belial, attached to a group of Assault Terminators and their funky

The Wall of Martyrs worked, allow-ing me saves from the Crusader when it opened up that would have left my army a red smear had it not been for the walls,
and the Void shields. I couldn’t kill the Land Raider in the end, but managed to finally kill the first squad gaining first blood and killed Belial gaining Slay the Warlord as well. That being said we had agreed to a simple annihilate each other game, and based on that we both managed a draw. The wall of mar-tyrs was a good investment for my Imperial Guard. The Officer of the Fleet was a waste of points, and my Ogryns didn’t fire a shot, but we had a great game and achieved mostly what we set out to do...annihilate each others armies

This 56-page sourcebook, written by Neil Smith, chronicles the devastating blow suffered by the Romans in the Teutoberger Wald at the hands of the Germanic tribes led by Arminius. The battle, also known by the Romans as the Varian Disaster, saw the Germans ambush and destroy three Roman legions and their supporting troops. The book co-vers both the battle and the aftermath – a period that was something of a watershed for Rome’s ambitions in Germany… Germania also covers the varying tribes that made up the Germanic forces as well as scenarios and special rules.

It was one book in a set of five, and I man-aged to get them all in the end. Sim-ilar to the Livingstone/Jackson ad-venture books, this set was excel-lent, and we played them until the books were falling apart. Then, in 1990, I discovered my life changing game. Heroquest. This purchase was followed by Space Crusade, and then Advanced Heroquest. In 1991 I was given a copy of White Dwarf 125, that was left behind on a bus, which opened up more worlds of gaming, but being an English publi-cation, I never knew that it was here I would have to say that I was always

They were great miniatures back then. The bags of 1/35 soldiers in green or grey were as relatively cheap back then as they are today. For some reason mine ended up buried under the house. I was about nine or ten when I bought my first glue together model. It was a WW1 biplane and sparked my love of model building. Everytime I could afford a model plane I would buy one.
