Pensions Training
Structured Solutions to
Help You Take Control
Strike Gold
As memories of London 2012 drift away, it’s time to get back to the job at hand. Our
Olympians struck gold over the summer due to their years of training and training
is available for you too. You will be pleased to know that you don’t need to train
day in day out to be a Top Trustee. You will however need sufficient knowledge and
understanding to be able to fulfil your role. At Aon Hewitt we provide a range of
highly interactive courses, specifically designed with your needs in mind.
Trustees
As a Trustee of an occupational pension scheme, the Pensions Regulator requires you to ensure you have the skills you need to exercise your functions as a Trustee properly.
The Pensions Regulator expects Trustees to be able to demonstrate their knowledge, keep a record of their training and is interviewing and monitoring Trustee boards to see what level of formal training Trustees are undertaking.
Aon Hewitt offer a range of training courses to enable Trustees to meet the requirements, and demonstrate they are “taking control”. Whether you are a new Trustee getting to grips with your role and its requirements, or an experienced Trustee maintaining your knowledge to comply with regulatory requirements, our courses will give you an understanding of the key issues.
Have a look at our website (www.aonhewitt.co.uk/ pensionstraining) for some downloadable materials to help you make your first steps as a Trustee and to decide what your training requirements are.
Pensions Management Committees
Many employers operate contract-based arrangements (Group Personal Pensions for example), and are increasingly establishing pensions management committees to ensure these arrangements are well-run. Similar to a board of Trustees, a management committee acts in an advisory capacity to the employer, though it has fewer legal obligations than apply to Trustees. Aon Hewitt’s pensions management committee training is designed specifically to meet the needs of management committees, identifying best practice and ensuring committee members can
carry out their role efficiently. It is also suitable for HR professionals supporting contract based defined contribution schemes.
Pre-retirement Seminars
Retirement usually represents a major change in lifestyle and income. Planning ahead – both financially and more broadly – is key to a solvent, enjoyable retirement.
Aon Hewitt’s pre-retirement seminars will ensure that employees are equipped for the decisions and changes they need to make.

(Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit
Scheme Trustees)
The PMI Award in Pension Trusteeship is an accredited qualification for Trustees. The syllabus is closely based on the Pensions Regulator’s Guidance for Trustee
Knowledge and Understanding (Defined Benefit schemes with associated Defined Contribution arrangements) and the Pension Regulator’s Foundation Indicative Syllabus. Our two day residential revision seminar is aimed primarily at helping delegates to demonstrate the skills needed to pass the examination, as well as updating and consolidating their TKU. The emphasis is on active participation via exercises and informal, lively discussion, leading up to a specially arranged sitting of the PMI APT examination at the end of the course.
In recent years, the seminar has attracted very favourable comments from delegates and the pass rates achieved have been consistently high.

Scheme Specific
In addition to general principles relating to pension schemes, the Pensions
Regulator also requires Trustees to be conversant with their own scheme
requirements. We can provide bespoke training and pensions management
services to help Trustees meet this need.
Scheme-specific training
The provisions laid out in the Pensions Act require Trustees to be conversant with:
The scheme’s Trust Deed and Rules The Statement of Investment Principles The Statement of Funding Principles

These can be developed to build on knowledge gained from our seminars and applied to the specifics of your scheme.
