The Loudoun Governor’s Career & Technical STEM AcademyPROGRAM OFFERINGS
Monroe Technology Center (MTC) is part of Loudoun County Public Schools and is located in Leesburg, Virginia. MTC offers course electives as an instructional extension of all fourteen county high schools.
Dual Enrolled Classes
Students must provide evidence of college readiness in Math and English when applying.
These courses currently offer 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity for dual
enrollment which means obtaining college credits through Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). These courses also receive .5 weighted grading through LCPS. Students must apply to NOVA, supply evidence of college readiness in math and English. Classes are taught at Monroe by an
approved NOVA adjunct faculty member.

These courses are designed as a part of the Loudoun Governor’s Career & Technical STEM Academy. The course curricula in these programs includes increased academic rigor in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In addition, some of these courses offer students the opportunity to earn Dual Enrollment credit through Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). See above for our Dual Enrolled courses.

Obtain an MTC Application Packet from your high school counseling office or download a hard copy from our website, www.lcps.org/mtc . Select “Applications” under the “Admissions” tab at the top.
o complete the application form and answer all questions, obtain parent signature o return the completed application to your school counselor.
o Teacher Recommendation Form – give to teacher, they will return it to the school counselor. o Counselor Recommendation Form – give to school counselor to complete.
If applying to a dual enrolled program.
o Apply online to Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) www.nvcc.edu o Write down the NVCC SIS 7-digit number.
Work with your school counselor to provide proof of college readiness in Math and English if applying to a dual enrolled course (ie, PSAT, SAT, VPT scores)

Seats are limited, register early.
The final date to register for any test is two days prior to the testing date.
Students must REGISTER IN ADVANCE and provide their own transportation. No WALK-INS for testing.
Call Mrs. Michelle Trudel at 571-252-2080 or email her at [email protected] to register for any test. Please provide the following: NOVA SIS ID#, full name, email address and preferred test location/date.
Students may also take the test at the NOVA Sterling Campus. No appointment is necessary. Students must have their NOVA SIS ID# and Photo ID to test. Testing is given in the Reynolds Building, Room 251. Call 703-450-2508 for hours.

May 29 Official notification of acceptance sent to home school counselors and student’s home.
Dates are subject to change. After the application deadline, a selection committee will meet to determine which students will be offered a spot for the following academic year. Selection is based upon the following criteria: quality of application content, discipline, attendance, academic achievement, as well as teacher and counselor recommendations. Students will be notified in writing of their admissions status by mid-May.

Prior to taking the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) Apply online to Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) www.nvcc.edu
Write down the NVCC SIS 7-digit number as you will need to include this ID number on your MTC Application Packet. (This number will be generated after your application to NVCC is complete.)
If needed, take the NVCC English Placement Test (VPT) and Math VPT (see options for other proof of math readiness below) at one of these two locations.
o Schedule to test at the NVCC Loudoun Campus Testing Center, call 703-450-2508 Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm Saturday: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
o Schedule to test at several schools in Loudoun County, call Michelle Trudel at 571-252-2086. These sessions are scheduled on the following dates. You must provide your own transportation and arrive as early as possible prior to the start time. Testing begins at 4:30pm. Limited seating available.

When taking the VPT at any location–You MUST bring with you the following items. o Photo ID
o Your NOVA SIS Number
o Please notify the staff that you are a CONTRACT DUAL ENROLLMENT student and you need to take the VPT English Test and VPT- Math where applicable.

Obtain completed 2-page MTC application from student with required signatures. Receive the teacher recommendation form from student’s selected teacher. Attach a copy of student’s transcript.
Attach the counselor recommendation form that you have completed. In addition, for Dual Enrolled Programs include the following:
Attach proof of college readiness in math (any ONE of the following will suffice)
o A score report indicating the student passed the Algebra 1 SOL or higher math SOL, must be within the last year (attach report)
o A score report indicating a score of 52 or higher on the math PSAT (attach report) o A score report indicating a score of 520 or better on the math SAT (attach report) o A score report indicating completion of the Math VPT (attach report)
Attach proof of college readiness in English (any ONE of the following will suffice)
o A score report indicating a score of 50 or higher on the Reading and Writing PSAT (attach report) o A score report indicating a score of 500 or better on the Reading and Writing SAT (attach report) o A score report indicating completion of the English VPT (attach report)
