As an international student at Douglas College, you have the opportunity to pursue a post-degree diploma (PDD) in Commerce and Business Administration in these areas: • Accounting

• Financial Planning • Hospitality Management

• Information and Communication Technology • Marketing

• Sales

A post-degree diploma is a recognized credential that can help you get a job, take your career in a new direction, boost your earning potential and upgrade and broaden your skills. Admission to a post-degree diploma program requires a bachelor’s degree. All programs are taken full-time and can usually be completed in as little as one year.

Accounting is a core function of many businesses. Accountants are usually the last employees to be hit by layoffs during a recession. Global demand for accountants is growing, and qualified accountants are uniquely

positioned to guide organizations through the turmoil of the present worldwide economic downturn.

The PDD in Accounting will give you skills you can put toward completing a professional accounting designation. Study income tax, auditing, advanced financial accounting and more.

The PDD in Accounting will help prepare you for the following careers:

There is an increasing need for employees skilled in financial planning at banks, credit unions and in the investment, insurance and financial planning industries. The job market requires people with recognized, specialized credentials, particularly in industries where clients rely on a trusted personal advisor. The need for financial planning professionals will continue to grow as defined pension plans disappear and government increases the age for access to government retirement programs. Completing the PDD in Financial Planning qualifies you to challenge the Level 1 Certified Financial Planning exam. Tourism is one of the largest generators of jobs and economic wealth in the world. In Canada, the tourism industry is set to experience a labour shortage that will see thousands of jobs become available. As the tourism industry grows and the labour shortage increases, more and more tourism professionals will be required to fill jobs in the industry’s various areas.

The PDD in Hospitality Management is the only post-degree diploma of its kind in B.C. It will give you the exposure to the Canadian hospitality industry you need to boost your career, either here or back home. Courses focus on strategic planning, event management, sustainability and revenue management. The PDD in Hospitality Management will help prepare you for the following careers:

No matter what industry you want to work in – be it education, finance, health care and more – all medium to large organizations require Information and Communication Technology (ICT) staff or consultants. ICT jobs are expected to have a higher than average growth rate over the next five years in B.C., highlighting the need for more graduates with an ICT credential.

With the PDD in Information and Communication Technology, you’ll get the skills you need to begin or enhance your career in ICT. Study web development and design, programming, systems analysis, project management and much more.

As businesses become more international in scope and embrace the growing trend of being customer focused, the marketing industry will grow and require more professionals in its various disciplines. With the PDD in Marketing, you’ll learn the business and marketing skills for a career in a variety of industries. Courses emphasize practical marketing skills, with a blend of lectures, case studies and group work on real projects in the business community.

All companies need sales people, and there is an increasing need for more professionalism and skills training in the sales sector. The sales profession is a growing field, and spans all industries and organizations. Skilled salespeople are valuable to many businesses and are well positioned for careers around the world. Sales skills are essential if you plan to own your own business. With the PDD in Sales, you’ll get broad exposure to sales and marketing as viewed from technical, creative and management perspectives. The program is aimed at motivated learners with professional work experience and is taught by industry professionals. Opt for work experience or internship upon completion.
