Gathering Hymn I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light #815 By: Kathleen Thomerson

LOTM Singers

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.

God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.

Clear Sun of righteousness,

shine on my path, and show me the way to the Father. I’m looking for the coming of Christ.

I want to be with Jesus.

When we have run with patience the race, we shall know the joy of Jesus.

Prayer of the Day

Let us pray together:

We turn to you, O God, in the midst of the calm and chaos of our lives and world. We pray that you will awaken us to hear the cries of the poor, the homeless, the broken-hearted. Help us to redirect more of our resources to clothe the naked and feed the hungry. Mold us, O God, and open our hearts and minds to be willing vessels of your spirit. Help us to listen to your voice calling us to action. Amen.

Old Testament Reading Kevin Clarke I Samuel 3:1-10

Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread.

At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ and he said, ‘Here I am!’ and ran to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ But he said, ‘I did not call; lie down again.’ So he went and lay down. The Lord called again, ‘Samuel!’ Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ But he said, ‘I did not call, my son; lie down

again.’ Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ Then Eli perceived that

the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, ‘Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” ’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’

Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 Kevin Clarke Read Responsively

Lord, you have searched me out; O Lord, you have known me.

You know my sitting down and my rising up;

you discern my thoughts from afar. You trace my journeys and my resting-places and are acquainted with all my ways.

Indeed, there is not a word on my lips,

but you, O Lord, know it altogether. You encompass me, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is so high that I cannot attain to it. For you yourself created my inmost parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I will thank you because I am marvelously made;

your works are wonderful, and I know it well. My body was not hidden from you,

while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb; all of them were written in your book;

my days were fashioned before they came to be. How deep I find your thoughts, O God!

How great is the sum of them!

If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand; to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours.

Gospel Acclamation ELW Page 188

Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia.

Alleluia, alleluia. Alleluia.

Alleluia, alleluia

Gospel Reading Kevin Clarke John 1:43-51

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael asked him, “Where did you get to know me?” Jesus an-swered, “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.” And he said to him, “Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

Pastor: And this is the Good News of Jesus the Christ, our Lord and our friend,

All: Thanks be to God.

Hymn of the Day Shine a Little Light By: Andy Beck LOTM Singers

We need dark made light in the world, hope shown bright in the world.

We need wrong made right in the world, shine a little light on the world.

I’ll shine it from the mountaintop. I’ll never let my spirit stop. Shine a little light in the world. I’ll shine it ev’ry where I go. Shine a little light in the world.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light, shine it everywhere I go. We need dark made light of the world, hope shown bright in the world.

We need wrong made right in the world, shine a little light on the world.”

Prayers of the People of God

Creator God, you call us to love and serve you with body, mind, and spirit. Open our hearts in compassion as we share our concerns on behalf of the needs of the church and the world.

Pastor: Lord in your compassion,

All: Sustain and empower us!

Sharing of Peace

Pastor: The peace of Christ be with you always!

All: And also with you!

=THE MEAL = The Great Thanksgiving and Eucharistic Prayer

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them up to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

(9)

Pastor: It is indeed right our duty and our joy that we should at all times and all places give thanks and praise to you.

In the beginning you created life in outrageous diversity. You made us in your image,

Forming us in relationship,

Inviting us to join in your work of creation. We praise you,

For in times of Empire,

You do not abandon the powerless. While kings were posturing in palaces,

Your glory was revealed as an infant in a manger. When we held back in fear and shame,

You went wading into the murky waters of our lives. In Christ, you entered our humanity and

You hold nothing back. Now in this time and place The nations rage,

Creation groans,

It seems people everywhere are polarized.

And so your Spirit binds us together in communion Deeper than blood, stronger than creed.

We become the communion that we receive. You show us home by a different road. And so we join our yes with yours.

Together with friends and strangers everywhere, Sinners and saints, on earth as in heaven,

We join the unending chorus from which the morning stars began:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.

Words of Institution The Lord’s Prayer

Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Post Communion Prayer

Behold: we have experienced a mystery!

Ordinary bread and ordinary fruit become for us nourishing life that can transform even the grief and fear of these strange times into hope and

love. May it be so not just in this meal but each meal. And may we who have been fed go forth and feed others. Amen.

Benediction

Reap the harvest of God’s love.

Continue to sow seed of justice, peace, and love.

Go forth to nourish and to be nourished, knowing that God is ever a part of our lives. Amen.

Sending Hymn Will You Come and Follow Me #798

Text: John L. Bell

Music: Scottish Traditional LOTM Singers

“Will you come and follow me if I but call you name? Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown,

will you let my name be known,

will you let my life be grown in your and you in me?” “Will you love the you you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?

Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around, through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?” Lord, your summons echoes true when you by call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.

In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Dismissal: Go in peace, and walk in the way of Jesus.

All: Thanks be to God! We will.

We rejoice that diversity in God’s creation

enriches, nurtures and challenges our life and ministry

as followers of Jesus and as servants in the world.

Because we believe with Jesus that God’s grace is truly amazing,

we are committed to welcoming all people to this place…

no matter where you come from, no matter what age,

race, socio-economic or family status,

no matter what gender identity or sexual orientation,

no matter what your faith tradition or theological beliefs.

Grace is for everyone or it isn’t grace.

It’s that simple.

It’s that amazing.

We really do welcome all!

In the spirit of the Reformation, Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church

continually seeks meaningful ways of expressing our commitment

to the life and teachings of Jesus.

We do this by…

-welcoming all people to full participation in our community of faith.

-recognizing there are many ways to God.

-striving to be compassionate toward all of creation.

-aspiring to live what we believe.

-respecting diversity of thought and opinion.

-working for peace and justice for all people and all creation.

-committing ourselves to serving others.
