SRPA Curriculum

Our vision

The Curriculum at Sir Robert Pattinson Academy enables our students to

dream, achieve and believe in their capabilities by providing an exceptional,

inspiring educational experience, which allows students to fulfil their potential

and become highly employable and successful members of society.

Information for parents and carers of Year 10 students (05.10.20 to 09.10.20)

This document has been produced to support parents and carers in ensuring that all Year 10 students continue to access a rich, challenging curriculum

throughout this period of disruption that we are currently facing.

On pages 2-9, you will find details regarding the resources and instructions for students to continue their learning whilst working from home. On

page 10 you will also find a list of email addresses for key contacts in each department, should you have any queries regarding these resources (for

example, if your son/daughter has forgotten their password). Additionally, pages 11-12 show details of the online resources available to support

students in all subject areas.

 Follow the lessons on describing characters which have been saved on Frog. You will need to download the

powerpoint called Describing Characters and the Language resource booklet. The resource you need is on page 7 of the Language resource booklet.

Mathematics

Log in to www.Mathswatch.co.uk and complete the activities that have been set by your class teacher which will appear on days you have a mathematics lesson this week. The tasks will be titled in the following way – SELF ISOLATION TASK, GROUP NAME, DATE OF LESSON, TITLE. Login details and passwords remain the same as last academic year. Science Please go to the FROG Science Subject Site, then Year 11, then Term 1, then follow the instructions there. You will need to use

Download: Doctor Who booklet lessons 5, An Unearthly Child episode clip and the narrative theory document.

Task 6: Re-watch the episode through in full once and look at and add to your notes in the lesson 4 section (slides 9-10) of the

booklet.

Task 7: Download the document called Doctor Who booklet lesson 5 and complete the tasks about the narrative features in

the Episode. Look at Propp’s character roles and Todorov’s narrative structure that you can see used in the episode. Use the document called ‘Narrative theories’ to help you remind yourself of each of these theories if needed.

Can I explain how purpose/audience influence design/layout?

Task 1: Find an example graphic image for each of the following four purposes: Inform (e.g. Swimming pool rules), Educate (e.g. Water cycle diagram), Entertain (e.g. Comic strip), Advertise (e.g. DVD or Game Cover).

Task 2: For each image explain: 1) The purpose of the image.

2) The likely target audience of the image.

3) The strengths and weaknesses of the image. Consider these: Colours, Composition, Design / Layout, White space, Image Resolution, Styles

Task 3: Whether the image is suitable for it’s purpose and target audience.

No computer access? Try and find one of the above images in a newspaper or magazine. Complete the tasks for this image on paper. When you return to school you can type it up.

Child Development

This week, you will be continuing the first task of Unit 2 – guidance will be available on FROG portal including a breakdown of the tasks as well as the relevant book pages. This is your second and final week on this task before it will be taken in and marked. You will then receive feedback for corrections before final submission.

Hazards – Earthquakes

Carry out some research to find out about the earthquake in Gorkha, Nepal, 2015. Write a short essay to describe that the earthquake did to the people and the local area. When you have finished, have a go at the worksheet labelled ‘tener and ser in the present tense’ on FROG and email to me.

Core PE

At school you would have 2 hours of PE per week. However, you are potentially missing lots of exercise at the moment due to not walking/cycling to the academy, not playing sport outside of school, not going swimming, etc. Therefore, you may wish to use the PE VLE subject site to help you stay active. On the Home Learning link there are a number of physical activity ideas and

short training sessions that you can complete at home. Remember, government guidelines are that you should complete 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Lesson1 : Can I produce orthographic projection drawings to demonstrate my understanding of the technique and the level of my ability to use it?

You will need several sheets of A4 paper, a 2H graded pencil, a B graded pencil, a ruler and a rubber for this task.

Copy the example from your worksheets onto blank A4 Paper. All black lines should be copied, as should writing in BLACK CAPITALS. Instructions are given in Italics, with BSI rules in red, and recommendations in blue.

Lesson3 : Can I clearly communicate design ideas with sketched 3D images using one vanishing point perspective techniques? Instructions:

Use this technique to create a 3D perspective view of your initials (Hint: Start by drawing a ‘Blocky’ version of the letters, then build in depth.)

If needed you can get some further guidance from the One Point Perspective Additional Support Sheet.

You should repeat the task, adjusting the position of your vanishing point higher or lower on the page to understand the effect this has on your drawings.

If you have time remaining, start to add shading for added 3D effect.

How can I use my developed knowledge of compositional rules to create presentation page/s evidencing my understanding? Instructions: Using the attached/printed resources create 4 A4 pages showing your understanding of the composition. You can cut out the example images from the attached/printed worksheets.

You can use the paragraphs you have written about composition and how it is shown.

You can use any diagrams from the worksheets or draw your own images to describe the compositional rules. You can design titles and make your presentation pages look creative and well presented.

Tips: try to layout your pages with limited empty spaces so consider where you place your images and information about each compositional rule.

Aim to present lots of pictures to show the rules. The following should be on each page:
