Course Objective

This course reflects the role of individuals who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and/or the work of a team.

Course Outline

There are 18 units in total to complete the Certificate IV in Business Administration and the Diploma of Business Administration. For further information on qualification rules and employability skills please refer to www.training.gov.au.

Week 1

1) Certificate IV Course Overview and Introduction Week 2

2) BSBADM401B Produce Complex Texts from Shorthand Notes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to take accurate shorthand notes at 80 words per minute from a variety of sources, including dictation and multiple speakers, and to produce complex texts from shorthand notes.

Week 3

3) BSBADM405B Organise Meetings

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to organise meetings including making arrangements, liaising with participants, and developing and distributing meeting related documentation.

Week 4

4) BSBINM401A Implement Workplace Information System

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge to implement the workplace information system. It involves the identification, acquisition, initial analysis and use of appropriate information, which plays a significant part in the organisation’s effectiveness.

Week 5

5) BSBITU401A Design and Develop Complex Text Documents

The unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design and develop business documents using complex technical features of word processing software.

Week 6

6) BSBITU402A Develop and Use Complex Spreadsheets

The unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use spreadsheet software to complete business tasks and to produce complex documents.

Week 7

7) BSBWRT401A Write Complex Documents

The unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan documents, draft text, prepare final text and produce documents of some complexity.

8) BSBCUS402A Address Customer Needs

The unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the ongoing relationship with a customer, which includes assisting the customer to articulate their needs, meeting customer needs and managing networks to ensure customer needs are addressed.

Week 9

9) BSBADM407B Administer Projects

The unit describes performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to perform the activities associated with the administrative aspects of a project, such as measurement, monitoring, reporting, and winding up the project on completion.

10) BSBCMM401A Make a Presentation

The unit covers performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience.

Week 11

11) BSBSUS301A Implement and Monitor Environmentally Sustainable Work Practices

The unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to effectively analyse the workplace in relation to environmentally sustainable work practices and to implement improvements and monitor their effectiveness. This unit requires the ability to access industry information, applicable legislative and occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage a range of meetings including overseeing the meeting preparation processes, chairing meetings, organising the minutes and reporting meeting outcomes.

15) BSBADM504B Plan or Review Administrative Systems

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan or review the requirements of effective administration systems and procedures for implementing, monitoring and reviewing the system.

Week 16

16) BSBADM506B Manage Business Document Design and Development

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to establish standards for the design and production of organisational documents and to manage document design and production processes to ensure agreed standards are met.

Week 17

17) BSBPMG510A Manage Projects

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. This unit addresses the management of projects including the development of a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learnt for application to future projects.

18) BSBCUS501B Manage Quality Customer Service

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop strategies to manage organisational systems that ensure products and services are delivered and maintained to standards agreed by the organisation.

Week 19

19) BSBMGT502B Manage People Performance

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, couples with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provide the basis for performance management.

Week 20

20) BSBWOR501B Manage Personal Work Priorities and Professional Development

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage own performance and

professional development. Particular emphasis is on setting and meeting priorities, analysing information and using a range of strategies to develop further competence.
