WHAT:

MiFo is a critically acclaimed event, now in its 7th year in Fort Lauderdale, held

throughout South Florida. Our film festival is renowned for its program of feature length

films, documentaries, and short films by, about and of interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual

and transgender (LGBT) communities. Our organization remains active throughout the

year with the Miami edition, now in its 18

th

year held every April, GLOW Miami, & 954

GLOW. The GLOW events are a monthly screening series for the Miami and Fort

Lauderdale communities.

 

 

WHY:

MiFo was created to entertain, educate and inspire film-loving audiences of all

persuasions by presenting the best of emerging international, national and local

LGBT-oriented films to South Florida. We strive to enrich our audiences while encouraging a

sense of community by presenting international and culturally diverse films that offer

historical and contemporary perspectives on the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender

experience.

 

 

 

 

AUDIENCE:

Screening and special events in the 2014 festival drew more than 5,000 people from the

Greater South Florida area, as well as national and international visitors. The Festival’s

target audience is primarily composed of gay men and women from diverse cultural

backgrounds, as well as interested cinephiles from the general population. Fort

Lauder-proportion of total population. Wilton Manors, a major gay neighborhood, has

approx-imately 1270% more gay men per capita than the national average

 

THE GAY CONSUMER

• 88% are more likely to support companies that sponsor LGBT events

and fundraisers

• Travel: median $2,000 per year

• Clothing: median $500 per year

• Coffee drinks: median $260 per year

• Bottled water & sports drinks: median $260 per year

• 85% consider advertising in LGBT publications to be a favorable

motivator to purchase

• 63% go to see a movie at least monthly

• 53% work out in a gym at least monthly

• 50% go to a club or bar at least monthly

• 80% purchased with a Visa credit card in the last month

• The median US gay male respondent spent $5,200 dining out in the

last year, with a median of 4 times per week and median of one of

those in a fine dining establishment

THE LESBIAN CONSUMER

 

• 91% of lesbian respondents report that their purchasing decisions are

influenced by corporate sponsorship of LGBT events and

participation in LGBT charities

• Travel: median $2,000 per year

• Clothing: median $500 per year

• 85% of lesbian respondents said that advertising in LGBT media

influences their decision to purchase products or do business with a

company

• 53% saw at least one movie in the last month

• 30% go to a bar at least monthly

• 44% of those who consumed at least one alcoholic beverage in a bar or

restaurant per week indicated that advertising in LGBT publications

influenced their selection of a beverage

• 79% of lesbian respondents used a Visa Card in the last month; 56% used

a MasterCard and 24% used an American Express card
