East Hill Summer Reading Program

Program DescriptionThis is a summer reading program where staff from East Hill will go to apartment complexes and on campus for students to be read to and staff and have IRLA progress monitoring. Books will also be mailed home throughout the summer.

The Auburn Valley YMCA will be holding summer day camps at Fairwood Elementary School. For more information call 253-833-2770.

Glenridge Champions Club

Champions Club will use Glenridge playground, MP Room and gym throughout the summer. For more information call Champions at 253-520-0688

Grass Lake - No Programs Horizon

The summer program will continue to provide access to leveled books for students throughout the summer. Emphasis will be on ensuring students who typically

demonstrate a reading level “dip” over the summer to participate. Library will be open every Wednesday throughout July and the first two weeks of August.

Meadow Ridge Summer School

This extended learning opportunity will be targeting current 3rd and 4th grade students

that scored level 1 on the ELA portion of the Smarter Balance Assessment in spring of 2016. The two week session will concentrate on the Research, Inquiry and Writing claims of the Sba through a focus on grade level standards connected to the claims. Dates: August 1 – 11, 2016

The Millennium Summer School program is to bridge achievement gaps in reading and math for students in grades 2, 3 and 4; in particular we will reach out to our current 3rd

graders scoring at Level 1 on Spring 2016 Smarter Balance Assessments. This will be a 14 day intensive summer intervention program which will target specific deficits for additional instruction and support. The reading intervention will utilize the IRLA reading data, leveled book tubs and foundational ARC kits. In math, the focus will be on core cluster concepts identified at each level for re-teaching and deeper intervention using Math Expression resources.

Date: Monday – Thursday, July 6 - July 28, 2016 Where: Millennium Elementary School

Birch Creek Summer Splash Reading Program

First through sixth grade students from Millennium Elementary School will have an opportunity to engage in daily reading activities using American Reading Company materials. The goal is to increase literacy skills and avoid the “summer slide.” The Kindergarten Academy Summer Splash will be for incoming kindergarteners for Millennium students and will emphasize kindergarten readiness skills.

Dates: Monday – Friday, June 27-August 11, 2016 Where: Birch Creek Youth Center

Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm Kindergarten; 1:00pm – 3:00pm – 1st – 6th (Fridays will be

Neely O’Brien Summer Reading

The summer program will allow all students access to leveled books, ensuring students have available books to promote continued reading growth over the summer and decrease the amount of students returning with a dip in their reading level. The library will be open every Tuesday with the exception of July 5th.

Panther Lake *

Kindergarten Summer Camp

Panther Lake will be offering Kindergarten Camp, this program is primarily designed to support students’ transition into their first experience with school and full-day

kindergarten. The focus of the program is on teaching students “how to be a

kindergartner” through the teaching of norms, rules, routines, and introductory ELA skills. Opportunities for family engagement is included.

Date: Monday – Thursday, August 8-11, 2016 Where: Panther Lake Elementary

Preventing the Summer Slide

Park Orchard’s Summer Program will intentionally serve students who are level 1 performers on iReady, IRLA and the Smarter Balanced Assessment to close the

achievement gap and get to grade level standard while preventing the “Summer Slide.” Date: July 5, 2016 – July 28, 2016

An emphasis will be placed on increasing the English proficiency for below level English Language Learners and all struggling students. Additional emphasis will be placed on reading comprehension and strategies to improve writing. Students will receive instruction using the IRLA toolkit, front-loading EL strategies and protocols and Write

Summer Middle School Robotics Camp

Students will participate in real-life problem solving using Lego Mindstorms robotics. Students will learn: how the Internet works, basic computer programming, logic, problem solving and creativity. Using a blended learning model, students will learn with a mix of online, self-guided activities and “unplugged” activities that use no computer at all. There is no prior experience necessary.

The Summer Technology Camp at Meeker will allow students to participate in

Northwood Northwood Drill Camp

Northwood Summer Drill Camp is a program hosted over the summer to enhance students’ skills when it comes to cheerleading. Students need to complete their on-line athletic registration prior to camp. This can be accessed through the Northwood

website. A current physical must be turned in prior to camp participation.

Global Awareness and Local Outreach Summer Program

Coalition for Refugee from Burma’s goal is to increase students’ English language literacy and soft skills through exploration of science and social studies. This program is serving the incoming 9th graders to 12th grade at Kent Meridian for the 2016-2017.

Students must meet the Refugee students’ eligible criteria as stated under the Refugee School Impact Grant. Students eligible are Refugee students which have arrived in the U.S. within the last 3 years.
