Purchasing PRS Returns

In this chapter, you will learn how to activate prepaid returns and purchase additional

If you have more than one version of ATX tax preparation software, be sure you are activating the returns using the version with which you intend to use your PRS returns.

If you purchase a batch of returns but do not activate them, you cannot carry those returns over to the following year's ATX software. Returns are valid only for the tax year for which they are purchased.

Amending PRS Returns

Your ATX software creates an amended return by duplicating the original return, and then adding a Form 1040X (or other amendment form) to the duplicated return. You cannot add an amendment form, such as Form 1040X, to an existing return.

To amend a return, open the return, and then select Amend Return from the Returns menu. This action creates a duplicate return and adds Form 1040X to that return. The original return is unchanged.

Duplicating a return for any reason, such as amending a return or creating a backup copy, uses one of your available returns

Replacing Lost or Deleted PRS Returns

Since ATX cannot determine the number of returns you have remaining in your PRS software, we cannot replace lost or deleted PRS returns.

Maintaining PRS Returns When Installing Software

If you have PRS returns available before reinstalling ATX software, these unused returns are maintained as long as you do not delete the original Database folder and reinstall to the same directory as the initial installation.
