CONTEXT

 Development of appropriate maintenance strategies for individual equipment

 Allocation of resources within the Planned Maintenance offices and prioritization of Planned Maintenance office activities  Development of maintenance programs for primary production equipment

 Development of an analysis and improvement program based on maintenance history  Gives direct input in the specifications of new equipment

 Gives direct input in the engineering training strategy for the operation

 Develops the maintenance material management, warranty management and rotable management strategy  Manage Defect Elimination program

 Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (Cause & Effect Analysis)

 Conduct Engineering forensic investigation on catastrophic equipment failures  Improve and monitor condition-base monitoring programs

 Implement equipment performance monitoring systems and analyse downtime agencies (Pareto)

 Analyse equipment Performance through Statistical Process Control techniques (control charts, run charts and histogram charts)  Conduct criticality assessment, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis and implement maintenance tactic on key equipment

 Schedule integrity assessment on key equipment and co-ordinate deviation close-outs  Monitor Work Management compliance

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role is a 7.4 appointment in terms of the MHS Act responsible for the co-ordination and management of the equipment maintenance programmes on the Mine by providing expertise in the maintenance of equipment ensuring plant and equipment is maintained effectively and operated in a safe and reliable condition, Through the implementation of maintenance strategies and tactics for the management of assets and equipment whilst optimising the interface with other mine systems and functions.

WORK OF ROLE (INCLUDING AUTHORITIES AND OUTPUTS)

Work of Role Output

Effective execution and monitoring of the Operations planned maintenance program

 Visit sites and equipment locations on the mine and undertake equipment audits and inspections in respect to engineering workmanship, quality and compliance with engineering policies, procedures and standards

 Proof and evaluate compliance of the maintenance application to legal and statutory regulations, standards, codes of practice, specifications and standard operating procedures

 Attest and direct remediation of deviations to standard technical, maintenance and operating practices

 Assess key maintenance functions to ascertain whether they efficiently and effectively support the operations

 Determine and recommend improvements to the maintenance processes from the audit findings

 Identify control procedures to use to ensure each key risk for equipment type is properly controlled and monitored

 Report problems identified and initiate action plans to address the problems

 Follow up on reported findings at appropriate intervals and ensure remedial actions have been done or in progress, maintain a tracking database for this purpose

 Give objective assessment of performance relative to best practice

 Appraise equipment and associated systems with assurance that they are fit for purpose

 Assists in addressing all key elements of asset care strategy using KPIs.

 Facilitates cross functional engineering and production teams to minimize reactive maintenance

Standards Enforcement and Quality Assurance

 Establishes programs to maintain and improve the quality of maintenance and the maintenance systems employed to minimize unplanned downtime on key equipment  Directs maintenance personnel to continuously evaluate

compliance and stict adherence to the established procedures and policies

 Establish a monitoring system to measure maintenance quality and improvement initiatives

 Provide technical assistance and direction to other functional groups in order to drive quality improvements and enhance the maintenance function

 Interface with regulatory agencies for complaint investigation and technical interchanges to present the company viewpoint, and during regulatory inspections serve as the subject matter expert

 Establishes cross functional teams to address cleaning, lubrication and first line maintenance functions

 Develops RCM based task lists for all maintenance significant equipment

 Assist and participate in Risk Management Programmes Analysis and Improvement

 Assess equipment criticality and performance trends analysis to assure systemic problems are identified and make the

necessary decisions or changes to current maintenance practices to remedy and fix the problems arising

 Facilitates failure analysis techniques for cross functional teams  Drive corrective actions to systemic problems that directly

impact on the production process and improve overall maintenance effectiveness

 Identifies significant recurring failure patterns by analyzing maintenance history.

 Ensures that preventative actions are implemented to ensure cost effective maintenance programs.

 Makes formalized recommendations to engineers. Planning and scheduling

 Facilitates a three-five year maintenance management strategy for the operation

 Liaises with planners to ensure inspection and audit findings are scheduled for remediation in accordance win the established priorities

 Monitors compliance to maintenance schedules and programs interventions to remedy deviations

 Plays a decisive role in preparing schedules and the supervision of major works/shutdowns

 Undertake to plan and maintain the critical spares and sub assembly register for all electrical related apparatus for the Mine Information Management

 Ensures that equipment data, nomenclature, descriptions, component serialisation are correct as captured in the ERP System

 Updates technical manuals and documents as appropriate  Develops equipment and process performance parameters for

monitoring purposes

 Continuously reviews equipment task lists in the ERP- SAP system in light of maintenance improvements, equipment developments and modifications

Early Equipment Management

 Provide direction and participates in new equipment specifications

 Conducts RCM exercises for all new equipment before commissioning establishing the maintenance strategies and task lists to be adopted

 Participate in Group wide RCM template development and review for primary production equipment

Training and Development

 Ensures that a skills matrix and training plans are in place for electrical maintenance personnel

 Responsible for training, coaching and development of engineering personnel in the maintenance of equipment consistent with the operating objectives

 Select, train, motivate, and develop a highly technical staff with expertise in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive and condition based maintenance systems

 Actively manages the training program of maintenance personnel

Maintenance Material Management

 Develops critical spare parts lists through the use of a structured RCM methodology

 Ensures that a material management strategy is in place  Actively supports the codification and bills of material initiatives Maintenance Facilities and Tools

 Designs and installs maintenance facilities and workshop tooling that are fit for the purpose required for the maintenance tasks undertaken in the department

 Identifies and establishes the special tools required to perform the identified maintenance tasks to be carried out

 Ensures compliance to MHSA, OHSA and domestic requirements in all maintenance facilities provided  Ensure that workshops have been upgraded to comply to

existing best practice with workshop standards, environmental control and material flow

 The incumbent must be able to research and investigate the latest technology trends and propose implementation programs to incorporate these into the business.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS

 Engineering Degree / Equivalent NQF 6 or higher (Mechanical or Electrical) EXPERIENCE

 Extensive experience in the maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in mining environment.

 Conversant with MHSA and the OHSA acts KNOWLEDGE AND

SKILLS  Demonstrated skill in managing people and resources

 Basic computer literacy

 Working knowledge of client disciplines – Mining, Engineering  Valid driving license code 08

 Knowledge on reliability centred maintenance tools and techniques (ProAct RCA)

 Postgraduate qualification or enrolment in Reliability, Asset Integrity or Physical Asset Management will be advantageous, if not such candidate must have aspiration to enrol and develop in the specialist field.  Defect Elimination techniques, formal Root Cause Analysis training will be advantageous

 Government Certificate of Competence (Mine) will be advantageous, if not, such candidate must have aspiration to complete exposure (annexure E) and obtain certification.

 Engineering Council South African membership will be advantageous
