MARION TECHNICAL COLLEGE – EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM

Program Descriptions with Requirements

All students interested in participating in Early College programs must meet the notification requirements set by the high school (usually March 30) and all MTC application deadlines.

Post-Secondary Enrollment Options

The Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program is designed to allow qualified high school students the opportunity to earn college credit through successful completion of courses.

PSEO Option B: Qualified students receive college tuition, fees, and required textbooks paid at public expense and attend classes during traditional academic year on the college campus or at specified high school locations.

PSEO Option A (Concurrent Enrollment): Qualified students pay college tuition, fees and required textbook costs and attend classes any term, including summer. Concurrent Grant may assist with tuition.

Academic Requirements

COMPASS/ASSEST placement test or ACT scores indicating readiness for college-level courses as indicated in MTC course placement policy.

• High School Grade-Point Average

Seniors: minimum 2.5 high school GPA (4.0 scale) Juniors: 2.75 high school GPA (4.0 scale)

Freshmen/Sophomores: minimum 3.5 high school GPA (4.0 scale) with a letter of recommendation Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is a program outside of PSEO legislation. Dual enrollment is earned at designated “partnership high schools”

with qualified faculty teaching the courses. Courses are taught during regular high school hours and on the same schedule as the high school. Approved courses meet the same rigor as a course offered in a traditional college setting. Credits earned are documented on high school and college transcripts.

Academic Requirements

• Complete placement tests (COMPASS/ASSET) or submit ACT - must score at level required for the course(s).

• High School Grade-Point Average

Seniors/Juniors: minimum 2.5 high school GPA (4.0 scale) Seniors to Sophomores

Seniors to Sophomores is a program outside of PSEO legislation. The program enrolls qualified high school seniors in MTC courses on MTC’s campus full time. Students who participate in Seniors to Sophomores have the opportunity to earn a year’s worth of both high school and college credit at no cost to the student. MTC enters into a partnership agreement with a school district to offer the Seniors to Sophomores program.

Academic Requirements

• COMPASS/ASSEST placement test or ACT scores indicating readiness for college-level courses as indicated in MTC course placement policy.

Seniors: “C” or better in Algebra II

“C” or better in 3 years of high school English Pass all parts of the OGT

Exception may be granted for the above criteria based on appropriate standardized test scores and high school recommendation.
