The red mork for No.36 now coincides with the index mork (b), ond the film is reody for the first exposure. With 2O-exposure cossettes: Turn the milled knob (18) until the red mork for No. 22 co-rncides with the index mork (c). Then proceed os obove uniil the fiqure 20 oppeors in the wi'ndow bs in (d) - for the first exp-osure.. i. The film indicotor in the rewind knob is intended solely os on oid to your memory. I. S"uins rhe Film Speed Fully press in the lever (17),ond iurn the front milled rim (see whiie orrow) of the combinedoperture ond film speed ring (6) until the requiredfilm speed figure oppeors in the ASA or DIN window (12).Releosethe lever ogoin, ond the front rim is once more coupled with the operture setting ring. lf the film in use is roted ot o speed in befween fwo figures in lhe film speed window, intermediole settings ore olso possible. For instonce, with o film of 32 ASA, let the milled ring engoge between the figures 25 ond 50..

'. .. -Unloodins After the lost frome the exposed film must be rewoundfrom the ioke-up spool into the doylight cosseite: o Pushthe reversinglever (5) bockwords; the rewind knob (4) will spring up into i i s o p e r o f i n gp o s i t i o n ( s e e i l l u s t r o t i o n ) . o Turn the rewind knob in the direction o f t h e o r r o w w h i l e o b s e r v i n gt h e f i l m counfer window. The film counter now runs bock from No. 1 (the losl exposure). When ofter No. 36 or 20 the red letter "F" or the red morkfor No. 22 respectively i s b e l o w i h e i n d e x m o r k ,t h e f i l m i s f u l l y rewound. When you toke o reoding, the meter indicofes o series of operture-speed combinotions for correct exposure under ihe prevoiling light conditions where you intend to toke the piciure. From such o series you then choose most suitoble operture-speed combinotion for your subiect, ond set the controls of the VITO BR occordingly Choose therefore o combinotion with o fost shutter speed for moving subiects (e. g. children ot ploy, sports shots); for scenes requiring greot depth of field ( s u c ho s l o n d s c o p e v i e w s ) s e t o c o m b i n o t i o n u s i n g o s m o l l o p e r t u r e . F o r f u r t h e r defoils see the section on opertures ond depth of field on poge 23. I. Serins the Speed ond Aperture F i r s t t u r n t h e s h u t i e r s p e e d s e t t i n g r i n g ( ' 1 7 )u n t i l t h e r e o r t i p o f t h e V index mork engoges opposite the required shutier speed. Then turn the operture ring (6) to sei the opproprioie operture number opposite the A index on the shuiter speed ring. Here the VITO BR hos the greot odvontoge thot you con set ony olternotive combinotion by simply turning the shutter speed setting ring. The effective exposure olwoys remoins fhe some. For instonce, offer hoving sef the correct exposure combinotion, you moy need o foster or slower shutter speed. In thot cose you only need fo turn the shutter speed setting ring (7) to move the V index to the left or right to the desired speed. The corresponding operture figure is instontly visible obove the A index ond ot the some time outomoticolly odiusied. This movement of the shutter speed setting ring thus covers ihe whole ronge of operture-speed combinotionspossible under the given light conditions. But please nole: Once you hove set o correct bosic combinotion, ond vory the operiure or shutter speed by turning the speed setling ring, d o n o t m o v e t h e d o u b l e I i n d e x b e y o n d t h e l e f t h o n d l i m i t ( f 1 2 2 )o r l h e right hond limit (f/2.8) of the operture scole. As long os the rongefinder is not correctly focused on the subiect, the lotter oppeors with double outlines in the rongefinder field (seeiop illustrotion). Turn the lens focusing mount (1) io fuse the double outlines in the rongefinder field inio one. This sels the lens exocily to the meosured distonce (see bottom illustrotion). With horizontql shots, focus olwoys on verticol outlines; wilh upright shols use horizontql lines of the subiect. -14-.

With the VITO BR you con corry out thoi odiustmenton the shutterwith the oid of the dot divisions ( 2 ) o f f h e s i d e o f t h e o p e r t u r e s e t t i n g r i n g ( 6 ) .Y o u s e t t h e d o t d i v i s i o n s o p p o s i t e the I mork on the depth of field scole (11). Exomple A: For o foctor of l1lz times iurn the operture ring to the lefi by holf o division in the direciion of the orrow. For o foctor of 3 times move it by one-ond-o-holf divisions, for o foctor of 4 times by two divisions, ond for o focfor of 5 times by fwo-ond-o-holf divisions. The ovoiloble depth of field zone is eosily determined. After you hove set the lens fo the correct subiect distonce, look ot the depth of field scole ('11). This corries two series of operture numbers orronged symmetricolly to ihe left ond right of the I index. The depth of field then extends from the distoncemorking opposite one of the left-hond operfure figures to the distonce morked opposite the corresponding right-hond operture figure (see the illusirofion of zone focusing on poge 15).. www.orphancameras.com. -23 -.

Moke o note, however, of the losi number thoi oppeored in the film counter window (19). o When re-inserting ihe portly exposed film, proceed in fhe some woy os described on poges 3 to 5 up to setting the film counter lo "F" or to No. 22. o Then push the reversing lever (5) bockwords, letting the rewind knob (4) spring up.
