Format

S u b m i t a n o r i g i n a l a n d three copies of the manuscript. W h e n the m a n u s c r i p t includes references to the a u t h o r ' s / a u t h o r s ' w o r k , i n c l u d e t w o originals, one complete, a n d a second i n w h i c h references to the a u t h o r ' s / a u t h o r s ' w o r k s have been replaced b y A u t h o r A , A u t h o r B, a n d so forth (in order of occurrence) i n the text a n d at the e n d of the references. The three copies s u b m i t t e d s h o u l d be m a d e f r o m the second o r i g i n a l . M a n u s c r i p t s are not to exceed 6,500 w o r d s e x c l u d i n g graphics. Please indicate the w o r d count (text only) i n the cover letter a c c o m p a n y i n g manuscripts. Use standard type a n d double-space throughout, i n c l u d i n g b l o c k quotations, references, a n d notes. T o ensure a n o n y m i t y i n the r e v i e w process, the author's name a n d affiliation appear o n l y o n the title page; the title alone heads the first page of the m a n u s c r i p t .

ajer's editorial style conforms closely to the Publication Manual of the American

Psychological Association (4th ed.). E d i t o r i a l changes m a y be m a d e to

m a n u s c r i p t s . F o r s p e l l i n g consult Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary; s p e l l i n g in q u o t e d material remains as i n the original.

Referencing

Sources cited appear i n parentheses after each reference (direct or otherwise), g i v i n g author's n a m e (unless m e n t i o n e d i n text), year of publication, a n d page number(s) i n the case of direct quotes. Enclose quotes of 40 or fewer w o r d s i n d o u b l e quotation m a r k s i n the text; indent quotes longer than 40 w o r d s i n block format. Page n u m b e r s m u s t be g i v e n .

List all sources alphabetically at the e n d of the manuscript u n d e r the h e a d i n g

References u s i n g the A P A style.

Research Notes

The Research Notes section p r o v i d e s a means for educational researchers to c o m m u n i c a t e w i t h one another about their research-in-progress. Because ajer is so w i d e l y i n d e x e d nationally a n d internationally, it is effective i n

s u p p o r t i n g s u c h exchanges. The Research Notes are also a useful means for r e p o r t i n g o n smaller research projects that have one o r t w o findings of particular interest but d o not w a r r a n t full-article treatment.

The Note s h o u l d report briefly o n the a u t h o r ' s / a u t h o r s ' research-in-progress or recently c o m p l e t e d research a n d s h o u l d feature w o r k that has not been reported elsewhere i n journal publications. This current w o r k s h o u l d be situated, briefly, i n the context of other pertinent scholarship, i n c l u d i n g the author's o r authors' related research. T h e focus of the Note c o u l d be either a specific s t u d y o r a n o v e r v i e w of a n o n g o i n g line of i n q u i r y where fuller r e p o r t i n g of results w i l l not occur i n print for some time. The m a x i m u m length for a Note is 1,000 w o r d s , e x c l u d i n g references a n d one or t w o tables or graphs. Please i n c l u d e a w o r d count i n the cover letter, as w e l l as a c o p y of the d o c u m e n t file o n a diskette i n M i c r o s o f t W o r d o r WordPerfect for P C or M a c i n t o s h . T o encourage c o m m u n i c a t i o n between researchers, authors of

N o abstract is required, but i n a l l other respects the usual ajer guidelines for manuscripts s h o u l d be observed.

S u b m i s s i o n s to Research Notes w i l l be r e v i e w e d for readability, rationale, clarity, logic, organization, length, a n d adherence to a l l ajer guidelines. A n y s u b m i s s i o n that is j u d g e d to meet these criteria w i l l be p u b l i s h e d as soon as possible w i t h efforts to m i n i m i z e the u s u a l delays i n m o v i n g submissions to p u b l i c a t i o n . A n y s u b m i s s i o n that is j u d g e d to require revisions according to the criteria o u t l i n e d w i l l not be p u b l i s h e d , a n d revisions w i l l not be i n v i t e d , as the Notes m u s t be current if they are to serve the purposes identified.
