NCAA DIVISION I BOARD OF DIRECTORS: USF President Judy Genshaft named fi rst female chairperson of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors.

HOW THE BULLS WERE BORN: With early name suggestions of “Desert Rats,” “Florida Chickens,” and even a student election runoff with the name

“Buccaneer,” the “Golden Brahman” was selected as the offi

cial mascot of USF in November 1962. Students reasoned that, since Florida was a

cattle-raising state like Texas, USF needed a mascot comparable to the Texas Longhorns mascot. In the late 1980s, the mascot evolved into the “Bulls.”

DEGREES FOR ALL: USF off ers over 230 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialty and doctoral levels.

CITY OF TAMPA: Tampa boasts an average temperature of 70-90 degrees and is home to Busch Gardens, six professional sports teams,

numerous cultural amenities, gorgeous beaches nearby, and a vibrant music scene.

DIVERSE POPULATION: Tampa is recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as one of the top fi ve most diverse and integrated urban areas in the country.

NEXT BIG THING: USF is one of America’s Top 50 Research Universities.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE TO DO: Over 600 registered student organizations at the University of South Florida
