Coach Mike Littlewood

Coach Mike Littlewood (BYU `93, played `85-`88) is in his fourth sea-son as head coach at BYU, 32-21 (.604) in 2013; 22-31 (.415) in 2014 and 28-25 in 2015 for an 82-77 (.516) record with the Cougars. The 49-year-old coach had a 219-128 (.631) record in seven seasons at the four-year level at Dixie State College and had a 382-127 (.750) mark in 10 seasons when Dixie was a junior college. He is assisted by Trent Pratt (Dixie `08), Brent Haring (So. Virginia `07) and Jeremy Thomas (BYU `99), all in their fourth year at BYU.

Series Record vs. Creighton

The series is tied 3-3 between BYU and Creighton. BYU won two of three vs. Creighton in 2013 at St. George. BYU won the second of a two games in Omaha in 2011. The Bluejays, who lead the Big East Conference, won the only game the two teams played in 2012 at TD Ameritrade Park.

Regarding BYU This Season

BYU has six players who are married: Keaton Cenatiempo, Hayden Nielsen, Hayden Rogers, Michael Rucker, Eric Urry and Connor Wil-liams.

Incorporated into this year’s team are seven players who have just finished serving two-year Church missions (Brennon Anderson, Bo Burrup, Nate Favero, Brock Hale, Rhett Parkinson, Connor Williams and Jordan Wood).

Three new players transferred to BYU (Kendall Motes, Rhett Parkinson and Connor Williams). Michael Rucker transferred two years ago from at Gonzaga. Motes transferred from Chemeketa CC and Williams and Parkinson transferred from Salt Lake CC.

Bryan Call (Burt), Jackson Cluff (Paul), Court Iorg (Dane) and Clay Sisler (Ron) have fathers who also played for BYU baseball.

BYU vs. WCC in 2016

Here are a couple of interesting baseball facts on the WCC. Pepperdine won the College World Series in 1992. Of the 10 WCC teams, only St. Mary’s has not partici-pated in the NCAA post-season tournament. BYU’s 1-1 tie against Pepperdine came in the second game of a doubleheader in 1963. Hitting Streaks

Brennon Lund lead BYU with a current 9-game hitting streaks, followed by Colton Shaver and Tanner Chauncey each at four. Shaver had a 12-game hitting streak ended 4 weeks ago. Brennon Anderson had a 10-12-game hitting streak ended 5 weeks ago. Tanner Chauncey’s hitting streak was ended at 17-games 8 weeks ago.

BYU was picked to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference after placing seventh its third year in the league and second under Coach Mike wood. The Cougars return 20 lettermen and lost 12 letterman for Little-wood’s third season. Preseason WCC prognostications have BYU third (D1baseball .com) and fifth by Perfect Game.

At Home in Miller Park

The Cougars finished the 2015 home season with a 189-108 (.636) record at Larry H. Miller Field which seats 2,204 fans in its 14th season since it was built. In the first nine years BYU drew 218,981 fans for an average of 1,177 and 142,248 at night for an average of 1,452. Currently in 2016, BYU has drawn 25,679 fans in 16 games at Miller Park for an average of 1,605.

Lund Rawlings WCC Player of Week vs. Saint Louis

Brennon Lund was the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week by the league office and by College Sports Madness for his perfor-mance in the first three games against Saint Louis University, Lund was 10-for-16 (.625) with three RBI, and two doubles

Rucker WCC Pitcher of Week vs. Samford, Niagara

Michael Rucker was the Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week at Samford and againt Niagara. He struck out a Samford batter in each of his seven innings (four swinging) of the series-opening 7-1 win at previously undefeated Samford to improve BYU’s team record to 5-0. He struck out a career-high 10 batters in a 14-1 victory against Niagara.

Urry Sports Madness WCC Player of Week vs. Kansas

Outfielder Eric Urry was Sports Madness West Coast Baseball Player of the Week vs. Kansas. Urry raised his batting average from .233 to .295. Urry’s game two catch at Kansas made ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 plays: https://app.box.com/s/wuo72qbo7htn5qe25lngudd940hy6hq5

Shaver WCC Player of Week vs. Portland

Colton Shaver was the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player for the Week against Portland. He hit .545 (6-11) with a double, home run and nine RBI and elevated his batting average from .453 to .464.

The oldest on the team is 25-year-old Eric Urry and the youngest are 18-year-olds Zach Brinkerhoff and Clay Sisler.

BYU played four nationally ranked teams last season, UC Santa Bar-bara, Nebraska, San Diego and upset No. 29 San Diego State. In 2014, the Cougars played two nationally ranked teams, No. 19 TCU and No. 26 Texas Tech. In 2013, BYU upset then No. 2 LSU (NCBWA, also No. 3 Collegiate Baseball & No. 10 Baseball America/USA Today), 9-4. Also in 2013, BYU twice upset No. 21 UC Irvine (NCBWA, also No. 21 Baseball America/USA Today & No. 22 Collegiate Baseball), 6-3 and 3-1; and BYU upset No. 22 Gonzaga (Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball). In 1983 prior to the NCAA Regionals BYU was ranked No. 1 after upsetting then No. 1 San Diego State in the WAC Playoffs. In 2012 BYU lost at No. 4 Arkansas and No. 7 Stanford. Baseball-Softball Combos at Miller Park

There are five head-to-head contests at Miller Park’s unique back-to-back fields this year when both baseball and softball played at the same time. On April 8, 9 when softball hosts LMU and baseball hosts San Diego and on April 22, 23, when softball hosts Saint Mary’s while baseball hosts Creighton.
