Part A: Backup Your Profile

1: How to download and install StorageSync?

Where to download StorageSync?

You may download StorageSync from your e-Storage account. Please follow the steps below to download StorageSync installer.

Step 1: At the URL address of your browser type http://storage.netmyne.com

Step 2: Login to your e-Storage by entering your login name and password.

Step 3: Go to Backup

Click the Backup on the top panel and the page below will be displayed. Click to download as provided by the big arrow.

Step 4: Download in progress

We suggest to save your file on your Desktop for easier searching purpose (figure A.4).

Click Save button to continue.

How to install StorageSync?

Once the download is complete, you may locate the installation file saved on the Desktop and run the installer.

Step 1:

Step 2: When the installation start, screen above will pop up on your monitor screen. Click Next to proceed.

Please locate this file on the directory where you saved it, double-click on it, and the installation will start.

Step 3: Please keep the default setting (Do not change the directory as per figure A.7). Click Next to proceed.

With this option on, StorageSync will start during Windows start

Step 4: Click Install to begin the installation (Refer back to figure A.8). The installation will take several minutes to complete. Once the installation in progress, you will see the following figure.

With this option on, StorageSync will start

after click the Finish button

On this step, the installation is completed. Click finish button (figure A.10) to exit from the installation wizard.

2: How to create the profiles for the user's 'backup profile'?

It is important for you to perform the backup for your StorageSync profile(s) as in the event of Hard Disk Drive failure. It will save your tremendous work before you can restore your file back to the new Hard Disk Drive.

Create a profile to backup your StorageSync Profiles

Before you create any other profiles, you should create the profile to backup the folders where the profile files are stored.

You may locate this icon on your Desktop to run StorageSync

Step 2: Let's name this profile as “Profile Backup”. Click OK to proceed.

Tips

Why we need to backup StorageSync's Profile? In the event of files corruption or hard disk failure, your local Profiles might be lost. Without the profiles, you cannot proceed to restore the files and document from online server back to the computer. Therefore, backing up your profiles allow you to restore the profile to StorageSync while neccessary.

The new profile “Profile Backup” is created. Lets proceed to select the local folder (the folder of file and subfolders to be back up) and Remote folder (The folder on the e-Storage when file and subfolders backed up will be stored).

Step 3: Click Browse button under Local Folder, and a dialog box above will pop up. Navigate to this directory: C:/Program Files/StorageSync

Select the folder called profiles as your source file. Click OK to proceed.

Step 4: Click Browse button under Remote folder (Figure A.15) and the login screen will pop up again to prompt you enter your e-Storage login.

Step 5: Enter your login details, to access the e-Storage. Check on the 'Save Password' so the schedule backup will work properly.

Step 6: Navigate into the Private folder, and click on the “Create New Folder” icon to create a new folder to store your StorageSync profile's folder (Figure A.17).

Step 7: Enter the folder name as “My StorageSync Profile”. We recommend that you follow the standard name on this manual so we can help to resolve your problems faster should you encounter one.

Step 8: Click OK to create “My StorageSync Profile” folder.

Please verify the below:

Profile name: Profile Backup

Local Folder: C:/Program Files/StorageSync/profiles Remote Folder: /Private/My StorageSync Profile

The next step is – Setup the schedule backup for your StorageSync Profile.

How to schedule backup the 'backup profile'?

Schedule Backup for your StorageSync Profile

Select the profile “Profile Backup” on your left and go to Schedule tab. Make sure the option Active has been selected. Select the method from the drop-down menu for the backup. Once the method has been selected, remember hit Save button to save the setting.

3: How to run the backup manually?

Backup Your StorageSync Profile

Step 1: Select the profile “Profile Backup” and click the Run button on the corner right (figure A.22).

Step 2: Figure A.23 is the Pre-Run screen of StorageSync after verified the source folder. Check the item(s) to be backed up and hit Proceed button.

Step 3: Backup is in the progress. Please wait for several minutes.

The dialog box below provides the report page after completion of the backup. If all files are successfully backed up, 0 error will be display. Click Close to close the dialog box.

You may login to your e-Storage now to check the existence of the backup profiles.

Part B: Restore your profiles in the events of Hard Disk Drive Failure

If you intend to restore your backed up files after a Hard Disk Drive failure or to restore your files to a new computer, you will find it very helpful to follow the guide step by step.

1: How to download and install StorageSync?

Download StorageSync from your e-Storage account. Please follow the steps below to download StorageSync installer.

Step 2: Login to your e-Storage by entering your login name and password.

Step 3: Locate Backup as show in the red rectangle

Click the Backup on the top panel and the page below will be displayed. Click to download as pointed by the big arrow.

Step 4: Download in progress

Step 1: Download StorageSync installer from your e-Storage account (refer back to Part A). Run the installer and a dialog box as below will pop up as figure B.6.

Step 3: Please use the default setting (Do not change the directory). Click Next to proceed.

Step 4: Click Install to begin the installation. The installation will take several minutes to complete.

Once the installation in progress, you will see the following figure.

2: How to create the 'Restore Profile' to get back all your 'Backed up' profiles?

Create Profile to restore the previous StorageSync Profile

Step 1: Click New button to create new profile. It is advisable to use the standard profile name to restore the StorageSync Profile. We'll use “Restore Profile” as the profile name here. After clicking the New button, the dialog box will pop up to allow you enter the profile name.

Step 2: Hit OK button to proceed.

You may locate this icon on your Desktop to run StorageSync

Step 3: Change the direction of the green arrow between the icon computer (local) and the globe (remote server) pointing upward will do (Figure B.14). This will restore your profiles from e-Storage to your StorageSync Profiles folder.

Step 4: Click the Browse button under Local folder, and a dialog box as below will show. Go to this directory:

C:/Program Files/StorageSync

Select folder with name “profiles” as the restore destination. Hit OK to proceed.

Step 5: After the restore destination selected, now you will have to select source directory from your remote server. Click the Browse button under remote Folder and the login screen will pop up. Login with your e-Storage username and password, as shown in the next figure.

Step 6: Click OK to proceed.

Please compare the settings of StorageSync on your computer with the information below:

Profile name: Restore Profile

Local Folder: C:/Program Files/StorageSync/profiles Remote Folder: /Private/My StorageSync Profile

If the StorageSync settings are exactly the same as above, you have completed the setting to restore the StorageSync Profiles.

This is why user are recommended to follow the default setting on this manual. If you are not following the standard on this manual, you might be confused by the folders names used. It is always advisable to follow the default setting names.

3: How to restore and rebuild the profile?

How to Restore the Backup Profile

Step 1: Hit the Run button now to restore the StorageSync Profile.

Step 2: After clicking Run button, the dialog box above will be displayed. Click Proceed to continue the restore process.

Step 3: The restore progress will take several minutes to complete.

You will find all the previous profiles are back on your StorageSync! You have completed the profile restoring steps.

Delete Profile – Restore Profile

Step 1: Select “Restore Profile” from the list, and hit the delete button. A notification message will pop up as below:

4: How to restore all backed up file and folders?

Restoring your Backup Files and Documents from Remote Server

The profile “My Backup” was use as the profile to back up the files in 'My Documents' folder. We are going to use this profile as the example for this manual. Select “My Backup”.

Step 1: Please notice the icon on the top (highlighted with the red rectangle). Move your mouse cursor over, left click on it. You should able to notice the green arrow switching the direction from Local (PC)-to-Remote (Globe) to Remote (Globe)-to-Local (PC) as show in figure B.28.

Step 2: Change the arrow direction as same as below (Remote server to local computer). Hit Run button to proceed.

Step 3: After clicking on Run button, a Pre-Run dialog box will pop up as above.

Verify the files to be restored to the PC and hit Proceed to continue.

A progress status dialog box (figure B.30) will be displayed. This process will take severals minutes (depending on the file size and the speed of the connection).

Once the restoration completed, a summary report will be displayed as below:

Step 4: If the process completed successfully, “0 Errors” will be stated on the screen. Click Close button. Files and folders restoration completed!

5: How to turn settings back to original back up state?

Step 1: Go back to StorageSync and select “My Backup” profile. and switch the arrow direction as shown in the following figure.

Step 2: After the arrow direction changed, click the Save button to save the profile.

You have completed the profiles and documents restoration. Congratulation!

Click here to switch the arrow direction back to “Local computer to

Remote Server” mode (As per display).

Note: If you do not switch back the direction arrow to “Local Computer to Remote Server” the next time you run this profile, the StorageSync will download the file from remote server again and this might overwrite your existing one. If you have multiple profiles, you can go back to page 36 and repeat the steps to restore the folders and files associated to that profile
