K ODAK Polarized Progressive Lens with NuPolar Technology.

P URPOSE : The following information provides a guideline for Rx processing of the K ODAK

Progressive Lens. If you have questions, please contact T ECHNICAL S ERVICES AT 800- 759-0075.

C OMPUTER C ALCULATION OF R X : To calculate and process values for an Rx, use a computer

software package that contains K ODAK design data. If your software company has not included

our data in its package, our Technical Services group will be happy to provide your software

vendor with the necessary specifications. Please forward us the contact name and phone number of your software vendor.

P ROCESSING R ECOMMENDATIONS

V ERIFY THE P RESCRIPTION : Insure that the prescription includes monocular P.D.’s, fitting heights, and specific frame dimensions.

U SING THE S URFACING C HARTS : Specific parameters for diameter ranges, center and edge thickness, and suggested tooling supplied in the following charts define the maximum effective usage for sphere/cylinder combinations. Also included in the charts are diameter-specific recommendations for base-down Prism Thinning according to addition.

NOTE: Prism thinning is not required on the 4.50 base lens.

B LOCKING : Align directly with the major reference point. Apply pressure to the distance portion of the lens to prevent unwanted prism. Always use the same amount of prism for both the Right &

Left lens, unless otherwise prescribed by the Doctor. The major reference point is decentered 2.5mm from geometric center and 2mm below the fitting cross.

S URFACING : The index of refraction is 1.498 and a nominal thickness of 2.0mm is recommended.

Processing the K ODAK Polarized Progressive Lens requires the same conventional procedures as CR 39 .

F INISHING : Use the fitting cross (not the major reference point) for segment height and the 180 axis markings for alignment. Drilling and faceting are not recommended as they degrade the cosmetics and integrity of the polarizer.

T INTING AND NEUTRALIZING : We suggest the removal of ink markings prior to tinting. Tints may vary slightly from one lens to another. Tint adjustments can be made to match tint variations. (e.g.

Green-to-Grey: add Blue, Gray-to-Green: add pink or brown, etc.) Neutralizers can be used successfully on the K ODAK Polarized Progressive Lens.

AR C OATING : These lenses are compatible with most anti-reflective coatings. If uncertain, consult your AR coating supplier.

R EMOVAL /R EMARKING THE T EMPORARY R EFERENCE M ARKS :

The K ODAK Polarized Progressive Lens markings may be removed by wiping the surface with alcohol or a similar solvent. To remark the Progressive lens, locate the semi-visible “Y” symbols engraved along the 0-180 axis line. (See procedure below for locating the semi-visible marks).

Use a felt pen to mark a spot over the “Y” symbols. The fitting cross will accurately optimize optics during final fitting of K ODAK Lenses.

S EMI -V ISIBLE M ARKINGS : K ODAK Polarized Progressive Lens markings have a “Y” at the nasal and temporal sides along the 180º axis line. The add power of the lens is located approximately 3mm below the temporal “Y”. These marks can be located by visually inspecting the lens. Position the lens at arm’s length, preferably in front of an overhead fluorescent light. While moving the lens slowly, look through the lens for the semi-visible marks located along the surface of the lens. At a given angle of light the marks will become visible. The markings will be most visible as the lens nears the edge of the light fixture.
