Description:

This presentation provides the foundation skills necessary to find, land and keep a job. From

aptitude testing to résumé writing to financial aid to interviewing skills, each career-building

segment prepares students to enter the world of work.

Objectives:

1. To introduce the student to the basics of career planning.

2. To investigate the steps to evaluating career choices.

3. To formulate a plan to reach career goals.

4. To develop the necessary skills to properly prepare job application documents.

5. To understand the elements and skills necessary for a job interview.

6. To discover guidelines of choosing the proper attire for the workplace.

Directions:

Students will conduct a self-assessment of their skills, talents and interests. Followed by using the Career Exploration

media site to identify careers which they feel correlate to their self-assessment. Results of the self-assessment will be

compared with an aptitude test to analyze the differences and similarities.

 

Find a Job

Directions:

Students will identify current job listings in the newspaper and online which interest them. Students will create two lists.

One which identifies jobs they are qualified for right now and another which identifies jobs they would like to qualify for

in the future. For the “future” job listings, students will develop a plan of how to fill the skill/requirement gap(s) between

now and possible employment of these jobs.
