FAMOC Architecture & Setup

Solution Whitepaper

FAMOC architecture

FAMOC comprises a central repository that collects all data concerning the mobile ecosystem, and client components designed to enable the efficient management of a mobile device through its lifecycle.

The FAMOC server is at the heart of the solution, providing the device inventory, managing communication with mobile devices, and handling the administration sessions via a web-based GUI. FAMOC server components may consist of more than one physical server, depending on the configuration, additional fail-over, and a load-balancing or database server may be included. The solution can be implemented as either a hosted service or installed behind the firewall.

FAMOC client components are lightweight software applications, installed over the air on smartphones to communicate with the server via secure data connections. Each application performs a different set of functions, such as remote installations and configurations deployments, device parameter collection, performing data backup and restore, locating devices or launching a remote access session.

US Government Agency

FAMOC

Reference Case (1)

Solution Whitepaper

Challeng

e

A US government agency required a highly secure mobile device management solution to radically improve the safety of their mobile communications.

The agency required a solution:

With top quality security features on the server and handsets

To introduce a very high level of data security on the handsets, including data encryption, and data auto-destruct policies

To ensure that sensitive server data is accessed only via secure channels within their premises

To block any services on the phone that might pose a potential threat to security

With high scalability

So

lut

ion

The agency selected FancyFon's mobile device management (MDM) solution, FAMOC, providing an unrivalled level of security support across multiple mobile platforms. FAMOC configuration and monitoring tools provide effective protection against threats such as viruses, hacking, tapping conversations, loss of data stored on the phone, or even loss of the device itself. The system ensures secure communication between server and mobile devices, protects stored data, and enables seamless corporate policy deployment with differentiated access rules for groups and shared data, including pre-defined user profiles. After successful test trials, FAMOC was rolled out to provide MDM for several thousand government mobile devices.

Bene

fit

s

With FancyFon’s MDM solution, the government agency is able to fully control its mobile environment and avoid potential risks. The main advantage of the solution is that the complex processes associated with the appropriate configuration of phones do not affect the end user. FAMOC puts full control into the hands of the administration team, minimizing end-user effort. The administrator has full remote access to the device, and is able to perform bulk operations, and control all of the processes. If a violation to a security policy is detected, the administrator is alerted to the irregularity.

In order to fully secure the agency’s mobile infrastructure, FAMOC provides:

Protected VPN communication

Advanced WiFi connectivity based on EAP-TLS encryption, with personal certificates

Password and auto-lock policies

Device memory and memory card encryption

Application installation restrictions

Access point, browser, WiFi and Bluetooth restrictions

Keep-alive functionality for essential applications

OTA wipe policy in cases of lost or stolen devices

Encrypted backup/restore sessions

Reference Case (2)

Solution Whitepaper

Challeng

e

Sanofi Aventis, a multinational pharmaceutical company, wanted to implement a solution enabling the rapid distribution of information and text messages to predefined groups of employees. Additionally, company mobile services were underutilized, and employees were reporting that network and device configuration was too complicated. As a result Sanofi Aventis was looking for a way to boost the usage levels of mobile services used by employees (e.g. network connections, email, calendar and corporate address book synchronization). Sanofi Aventis requirements:

Support for multiple mobile platforms (on a divers mobile infrastructure)

Mass configuration of network connections and email, carried out over-the-air, with zero interaction required from the end user Device integration with collaborative software, e. g. Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino

Easy access to shared resources (address book, contact database) with automatic data synchronization

Rapid distribution of information and text messages, with the possibility to define bespoke content to different groups of mobile users

So

lut

ion

Sanofi Aventis selected FancyFon’s mobile device management solution, FAMOC, enabling centrally managed configuration of telecommunications services (such as email, VoIP, SIP, WiFi), and customized personal settings on any number of mobile phones, in real time.

Additionally, to address a bespoke requirement from Sanofi Aventis, FancyFon developed a mobile application called SA-24, which fully integrated with the FAMOC platform, and was installed remotely onto each end-users’ device. The web-based SA-24 is a console that allows messages to be sent by the administrator, supervisor, manager, or another employee. The console creates groups of employees (regional, operational, support), defines users’ privileges (recipient of content, content editor, the central coordinator), and creates and distributes messages to pre-defined groups of recipients. SA-24 is installed onto each employee handset, to receive, store and also share company information with other colleagues.

FAMOC and SA-24 was rolled out to 800 OS-diverse mobile devices within the Sanofi Aventis network.

Bene

fit

s

FAMOC has empowered the Sanofi Aventis IT team to take full control of the configuration of mobile services (such as email, calendar, and address book synchronization), and no longer requires interaction from the workforce, so that employees can now benefit from the mobile Internet and improve their productivity. Integrated with FAMOC, SA-24 radically improved Sanofi Aventis’ internal communications, enabling the convenient and rapid distribution of information, directly to end users’ handsets. Software installation, configuration and updates are now carried out centrally, and any errors or problems that occur on a device can be addressed remotely by an administrator using the FAMOC Remote Access console.
