Our research doesn’t just happen in the lab. We work with regional, national and international partners to deliver research that has a positive impact on the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of our communities.

Responding to the challenges faced by the communities we serve, our research work is focused on four key themes:

Urban Living and Society

Our research in this area seeks to understand and guide change in the economy, our society and the culture we live in. Our research work shows how the places we live, the work we do, the way we describe ourselves and the relationships we form interrelate.

Health and Wellbeing

We take an integrated approach to health research, based on the assumption that the environments in which we live, the cultural background from which we come, and the work we do all affect our physical and mental health. Our research explores how health initiatives can prevent disease and illness, encourage healthy lifestyles in individuals and communities, and reduce the cost and impact of illness.

Education and Aspirational Change

Our research in this area aims to ensure that global prosperity is underpinned by global equity. We create research that supports individuals and communities in achieving their economic, social and cultural goals through education.

Environmental Sustainability

We are in the midst of challenges affecting the world such as contested land-use, urban and agricultural climate change adaptation, and resource conservation. Our research takes a practical and interdisciplinary approach
