Why choose Computing & Security
at ECU?
Recognised as a leader in cyber security research, our Computing and Security courses offer an extensive range of
majors and units across a variety of exciting subjects. Flexible courses and world-class technology, combined with our
Work Integrated Learning program, which is supported by close industry links, provide ECU students with endless
possibilities within Australia, as well as internationally.
Computing and Security is truly a global industry. For that reason, ECU offers students the opportunity to study abroad and work with international partners while completing their course. Some of the travel opportunities available include being hosted by ECU’s partner institution in China, Nanchang University, or living and working in Dubai as a result of ECU’s partnership with Emirates.

A HEAD START THROUGH WORK
INTEGRATED LEARNING
The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program provides high achieving students in most courses with work placement opportunities within local industry. We partner up students who have excelled in their studies, with State and Local Governments, major financial institutions and local industries, to ensure they are entering the workforce as smoothly as possible and with a solid foundation from which they can launch their career.
FREE LAPTOP FOR ECU COMPUTING AND
SECURITY STUDENTS
We are committed to ensuring all Computing and Security students have access to the latest technologies so they can reach their potential within their chosen course. That is why, if you enrol as a full-time student, you are eligible to receive a free laptop to use in your first year of study.
And, if you continue with your degree, it will be yours to keep for free.
ECU STUDENTS CREATE AWARD-WINNING APPS
ECU Students and researchers alike have seen much success when it comes to building and creating life changing technology, picking up awards at the industry WAiTTA and iAward’s in recent years. Student Luke Brook, inspired by his own son’s impairment, has developed a hearing test app for screening and monitoring hearing impairment in children. Andyy Hope and Adrian Jurcevic, also ECU students, have created a smart contact list app called ‘Please Help’, for emergency situations. And a group of four students working as a team have developed a search and rescue app in conjunction with the WA Police Air Wing. Working with industry partners such as Telethon Speech and Hearing, ‘Catching Up’ therapy focus group and the WA Police, ECU students are gaining valuable real-world experience and making a difference to the community while they are studying.

I was really impressed with the number of computing labs and the 24/7 accessibility at ECU. Not only did they provide me with all the resources I needed to succeed at university, the atmosphere allowed me to make great friends and enjoy my study. I didn’t expect to be able to work for real clients during my time at uni,
so was surprised when I was given the opportunity to develop software for the WA Police Air Wing.
We developed a mobile phone app that could assist police in search and rescue missions. We were able to work with them on the design and then able to test the app in the field using the Police helicopter. The experience and recognition has been invaluable.

ECU has an amazing range of facilities and programs offered to students. I was able to study a double major and could see the applications of both of my majors within the industry and the real-world.
As part of the final semester of my course I was able to do Work Integrated Learning. It’s a way to work with industry partners. I was able to work on projects and gain industry experience in the workforce before I’d finished my course.

Studying four units while working full-time and being a father to my one-year-old son, has made me appreciate how much time I actually have and how to use it effectively.
By making my degree available to study online, ECU has really helped with this. It has been challenging, but extremely rewarding.
Help is there when you need it and you can complete the modules in your own time.

Before starting my course, I didn’t realise the work opportunities that were available to us as students. If you studied hard and performed well, the lecturers even helped you get your name out there to potential employers. Thanks to the skills I gained by studying at ECU, I was promoted at work to a position that is in-line with what I studied. The experience was fantastic.

I found the ECU facilities, lecture rooms and labs to be modern and well laid out. Walking around the campuses I get a very positive feeling – I think it’s the mix of shiny modern architecture, nice park and water features and the relaxed atmosphere between the students and staff. All the lecturers have been friendly, helpful and very approachable.
Studying at ECU has helped me find my passion and what I believe I will be doing to contribute to our society.
