(16)

Using Drag and Drop with Multiple Sessions

FlightPlan allows users to transfer events from one AirSpeed video server to another, on the same network, by using its drag and drop feature for multiple FlightPlan sessions.

When transferring media files using drag and drop, the video servers must be configured for the same media format—video standard and resolution—if the video servers are not configured for the same media format, the transfer will fail. In addition, you can transfer events—clips and recordings—while they are recording or playing.

n

Avid AirSpeed video servers must be on the same network when using the drag and drop feature in FlightPlan.

To use the drag and drop feature:

1. Start a FlightPlan Session. For more information, see “Starting FlightPlan” on page 14. 2. Connect to the AirSpeed Server you want FlightPlan to access using the Server list box

located near the top of the FlightPlan window.

(17)

Starting FlightPlan

n

When transferring media files using drag and drop, the video servers must be configured for the same media format—video standard, compression type, and resolution. If the video servers are not configured for the same media format, the transfer fails.

The three media formats that must be the same are: - Video Standard

- Compression Type - Audio Resolution

These media format settings can be viewed on each AirSpeed video server by clicking the Setup button and selecting the System Configuration tab as shown in the following illustration.

7. Click an event from the Event list, in one of the open FlightPlan sessions, drag and drop it in another open FlightPlan sessions Event list. You can select more than one event to transfer by pressing the Shift or Ctrl keys and clicking each event you want to drag and drop.

8. The state of the event you are transferring determines which dialog box displays next. Do one of the following:

t If the event is a clip that can be played while transferring, the following dialog box opens.

Video Standard

Compression Type

(18)

Click the check box to turn on the play while transfer option and click the OK button.

t If the event is a clip that is recording during the time you are transferring it, the following dialog box opens.

Click the appropriate check box to turn on the desired option and click the OK button.

A dialog box opens and displays the video ID, the clip name, the source and the destination servers, and the transfer status of the event as it is moved from one server to the other.

(19)

Connecting to an AirSpeed Server If a clip being transferred has the same name as a clip already existing on the destination video server, FlightPlan displays a FlightPlan - Duplicate Video ID dialog box.

This dialog box allows you to overwrite the existing clip (replace) on the destination server, rename (rename) the clip being transferred, or cancel the transfer.

Connecting to an AirSpeed Server

Connecting FlightPlan to an AirSpeed Server consists of two general steps: 1. Create a list of AirSpeed video servers that FlightPlan can access. 2. Select the server whose events you want to manage.

(20)

Creating a Server List

The server list specifies which AirSpeed video servers you can access. If you are using Pilot on the same system, you can use the same list for both FlightPlan and Pilot. If you have already created the server list for Pilot, you do not need to create it for FlightPlan. To create a server list:

1. Select View > Server List. The Edit Servers dialog box opens.

2. Click in the Available Servers text box and enter the host name or IP address, each on its own line, for each AirSpeed Server you want to access through FlightPlan.

n

AirSpeed host names must be in lower case; upper case characters are not permitted. When entering the AirSpeed host name, you must match the case (lower case) of the AirSpeed host name exactly. There is no limit to the number of IP addresses and host names you can enter.

(21)

Connecting to an AirSpeed Server

Selecting a Server

To select a server:

1. Select the AirSpeed Server you want FlightPlan to access from the Server list box (near the top of the FlightPlan window).

avid123. For more information, see the AirSpeed Installation and User’s Guide. The Event list for the selected server opens.

Closing an AirSpeed Server Connection

To close the connection between FlightPlan and an AirSpeed Server without exiting the FlightPlan session:

(22)

Using The Event List

FlightPlan automatically updates the Event list to reflect activity on the server. Whenever an event (or clip) is created, FlightPlan adds it to the list. The Status column displays the letter C (for Creating) as the event is being recorded for the first time. Whenever an event is deleted, FlightPlan removes it from the list. Events are identified by video ID and video name.

Refreshing the Event List

If your network experiences a problem and you suspect that FlightPlan was not able to automatically update the Event list, you can manually refresh the list.

To refresh the Event list: t Select View > Refresh.

Modifying the Event List

You can modify the Event list in three ways:

• By limiting (filtering) the list to include a subset of the events on the AirSpeed Server • By changing the sort criterion of the Event list

• By selecting which event columns are displayed You can also resize the columns.

Filtering the Event List

FlightPlan matches video IDs to characters you specify. To Filter the Event list:

(23)

Using The Event List

n

Matching is case-sensitive.

The Match list box retains all match strings you enter. If you want the list to match a string you previously entered, select that string from the Match list box.

Changing the Sort Criterion of the Event List

To select the criterion for sorting the Event list:

t Click on the header button for the column corresponding to that criterion.

For example, clicking on the Video Name column’s header button sorts the list by video name. Click once to sort alphabetically, starting with upper-case “A.” Click again to sort reverse alphabetically, starting with lower-case “z.”

By default, sorting events in the Event list is case-sensitive. To disable case-sensitivity:

1. Select View > Sort Order is Case Sensitive.

2. Uncheck the option.

(24)

Hiding or Showing Columns

Use the List menu to select which columns you want displayed in the Event list.

n

You can also select the column headers from the right-click context menu.

To show a column:

t Select its header from the List menu.

A check mark is displayed next to the header name in the menu. The column is displayed in the Event list.

To hide a column:

t Select its header in the List menu. The check mark next to the header and the column itself disappears.

Resizing Columns

Use the column header buttons to resize columns in the Event list. To resize a column:

t Click the right-side edge of that column’s header button and drag the pointer right to enlarge or left to shrink the column width.

The following example shows the Duration column being resized.

You can also define the column widths in a configuration file. For more information, see “Using Configurations” on page 28.

(25)

Using The Event List

3. In the Video Name text box, enter the new name and click OK.

FlightPlan changes the event’s name in the Event list and on the AirSpeed Server.

Changing Event IDs

To change an event’s ID:

1. Select the event in the list whose ID you want to change.

2. Select Edit > Change Video ID. The Change Video ID dialog box opens.

3. In the Video ID text box, enter the new ID and click the OK button. A warning message opens.

(38)

• By changing the sort criterion of the Event list • By selecting which event columns to display You can also resize the width of the columns. Filtering the Event List

To filter the Event list:

1. Specify characters you want FlightPlan to match by entering them in the Match text box. 2. Press the Enter key.

Use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard. For example, typing c* in the Match text box filters the list to display only clips whose Video IDs begin with the lower-case letter c as shown in the

following illustration.

(39)

Using the Event List For example, clicking on the Video Name column’s header button sorts the list by video name. Click once to sort in alphabetical order, starting with upper-case “A.” Click again to sort in reverse alphabetical order, starting with lower-case “z.”

By default, the sort order of events in the Event list is case-sensitive. To disable case-sensitivity:

1. Select View > Sort Order is Case Sensitive.

2. Uncheck the option.

Click the option to enable it again. Resizing the Columns

Use the column header buttons to resize columns in the Event list. To resize a column:

Click the right-side edge of that column’s header button and drag the pointer right to enlarge or left to shrink the column width. The following example shows the Duration column being resized.

You can also define the column widths in a configuration file. For more information, see “Using Configurations” on page 48.

Hiding or Showing Columns

IsoSync

The IsoSync™ application lets you synchronize up to eight AirSpeed video servers and record simultaneously to different storage devices assigned to each AirSpeed Server. For example, if you had four different cameras filming the action you could sync the data coming from all four cameras to record through four AirSpeed video servers at the same time using one button.

n

IsoSync functions on Windows Vista®.

n

IsoSync uses Avid network control protocol (PAPI) to control AirSpeed Servers. The AirSpeeds must be set to network control only when using IsoSync, and no other protocols are supported. Select “Local/ Network Record Or Play” for the playout and capture channels. You set this in the Setup > Channel tab of the AirSpeed UI.

This chapter contains the following: • Installing IsoSync

(52)

Installing IsoSync

n

Prior to installing IsoSync, make sure there is no other copy of IsoSync running on another system in this configuration. Avid does not support more than one copy of this program running in a configuration at one time.

To install the IsoSync software:

1. Locate and run the Avid AirSpeed IsoSync Installer application on the Avid AirSpeed I/O Peripherals CD-ROM.

2. In the opening window, select Install Avid IsoSync. 3. Follow the system prompts.

A set up dialog box displays when installation is complete.

Using IsoSync

To start IsoSync:

1. Do one of the following:

t Click the Start button and select All Programs > Avid > AirSpeed > IsoSync. t Double click the IsoSync shortcut icon on the desktop.

The Avid IsoSync window opens.

2. Click the Setup button in the lower left- hand corner of the IsoSync window to define the AirSpeed Servers you want to synchronize.
