• We are appointing a Client Collaboration & Delivery
Manager
• This role will report to the Head of Infrastructure and
will be a member of the HEAnet Management Team.
• The fundamental objective of this role is to ensure
that HEAnet is delivering services that support the
business of our clients.

Shared Services: IReL
• IReL – “Irish Research eLibrary” is a nationally funded
electronic research library, initially conceived to
support researchers in Biotechnology and Information
Technology in mid-summer 2004 (STM phase),
• Following on the success of the STM phase, IReL
expanded in 2006 to support research in the
Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS phase).
• IReL was managed from UCD until Spring of 2014, and
came under the HEAnet umbrella in April 2014.

RMAN Project
• This project is essential for the future of the network
for the next 10 years.
• The existing metro equipment is nearing end of life.
Over 10 years old and possibly 12 by the time we finish
the project.
• We are seeking €5 Million infrastructure funding from
the HEA for this project.
• Project has been approved by the HEA – for
presentation to DES , we need to make this happen in
2015-2017.

Schools 100 Mbit/s
• Rolling out 100Mbit/s broadband connections to every
post-primary school - on behalf of DCENR & DES.
• HEAnet manage the core network & security services as
well as project-managing the procurement process.
• Fibre & wireless links are provided by: enet, Airspeed,
Digiweb, eircom, Vodafone, UPC & Imagine.
• Installation & support services are provided by Agile
Networks.
• The project is now completed with connections delivered to
over 800 post-primary school locations
• HEAnet have delivered this programme on behalf of the
Schools 100 Mbit/s
• Connecting schools to HEAnet serves to leverage the public
investment in the HEAnet education and research network to date.
• In leveraging this investment, HEAnet are very grateful to
those Higher Education Institutes that are facilitating access to their campus locations
• thus enabling delivery of cost-effective backhaul to schools
from regional areas.
• National transit of schools traffic is also being facilitated by
ESB Telecoms which underpins a significant portion of the HEAnet backbone.
