INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 2011-2012

DONALD ARSENAULT is a retired professor from the Université de Moncton. Donald did his undergraduate work in arts and physical education at UdeM and the University of Ottawa. He continued his graduate studies at the University of Alberta and Florida State University, where he specialized in teacher-student interaction. He is a certified Coach from the Centre for Management and

Organization Effectiveness and a Master Trainer for the National Skills Program for Management Volunteers. Donald facilitates workshops and gives presentations on a regular basis in both official languages. Whether in small groups or with large gatherings, his most common topics include: motivation, leadership, communication, teamwork, planning, experiential learning, creativity, self-esteem, problem-solving, and decision-making. His strength is in leading groups, as he possesses the group skills and the people skills to generate effective and efficient interaction. He has worked for a number of corporations, including: NBTel; Assumption Life; Thomas Cook Travel Group; Community Colleges of NB; Royal Direct; Canada Post;

Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission of NB; Co-Op Atlantic; Atlantic Lotto Corporation, and numerous departments of all three levels of government.

MICHELLE AUDAS received a Bachelor of Arts (1998) and Masters of Business Administration (2002) from the University of New Brunswick. She has

accreditations/certifications in the following: Canadian Securities Course, Personal Financial Counselling Diploma, Accredited Insights Practitioner and Accredited Insights Coach. As a Consultant and Learning Specialist, Michelle has worked with new and existing teams to deliver learning solutions in the areas of team development, communications, business case analysis, business plan

development, induction training, leadership development and coaching. In her current role, she works as an Advisor to Small Business clients, providing financial advice and planning strategies related to the clients personal and business goals. Michelle's roles have included Consultant, Insights Learning and Development;

DR. RICHARD SPACEK: During his work in the computer-assisted analysis of 16th century dramatic texts, Richard became interested in composition and rhetoric and joined the staff of the College of Extended Learning. Since 1995, Richard has combined teaching for the university with running the UNB Writing Centre. He is now Retention Program Coordinator for Student Affairs and Services.

KEVIN BROWN is a professional engineer with more than 15 years of progressive management experience in advanced manufacturing. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and is certified as a Quality Technician through the

American Society for Quality. Kevin provides hands on business guidance to clients through a unique understanding of operations and financial management. As a founder of Kensington Associates, Kevin has assisted individual clients, facilitated professional development programs and collaborated on strategic economic

advancement projects.

LAURIE BOURQUE brings to his clients over twenty years of experience in business development and management consulting. He holds the professional designation of Certified Management Consultant (CMC), and has assisted private organizations achieve a variety of strategic goals. Laurie is a graduate of the Professional Human Resources Management Program at the University of New Brunswick and prior to becoming a founding member of Kensington Associates, he held the position of Managing Partner with the Business Development Bank of Canada’s consulting group. Having held senior positions with an Asian commodities trading firm, a major commercial Bank and in manufacturing, Laurie has a strong background in financial management systems and senior project management for a large number of corporations as well as non-profit organizations at regional,

national and international levels. As a keynote speaker and group facilitator, he has been featured in a variety of business publications. Laurie’s personality,

enthusiasm and his ability to quickly form part of the corporate culture, enable him to develop strong, successful relationships with his clients.

BETTY MCCARTHY has over twenty years broad-based experience consulting, training and working in Human Resources with both public and private sector, large and small organizations in New Brunswick. Since 1988, she has been Principal

Consultant with Career Directions/Directions + Co. Betty was a consultant with CEL as the Human Resources Management Program was developed. Betty has an extensive background in developing and delivering communication, teambuilding and human resource management courses including Teambuilding for Quality,

Interpersonal Communication, Conflict Management, Building a Respectful

Workplace and Improving Hiring Accuracy. Betty possesses a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Toronto and an M.Ed. (Adult Education) from the University of New Brunswick. Her client base includes numerous companies from the manufacturing and transportation sectors, as well as the sales and service sector. Betty is presently working with the Fredericton Police Department

TRISHA GALLANT-LEBLANC is an associate of the Fredericton office of Cox and Palmer and a member of the Cox & Palmer Management Labour Relations and

Employment Practice Group. Trisha’s practice is primarily in the area of

employment and labour law with experience in wrongful dismissal lawsuits, human rights complaints, certification/decertification applications, negotiations for collective agreements, grievance arbitrations, injunctive relief, contracts of employment, Worksafe NB appeals, Employment Insurance appeals, employee policies, termination agreements and general pro-active advice on employment and labour law issues. Trisha also provides a variety of pro-active training seminars for employers in the union and non-union workplace. Training seminars given by Trisha include topics such as Workplace Harassment, Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace, Managing Absenteeism, Innocent Absenteeism, Litigating Disability Claims,

Discipline and Dismissal, Duty to Accommodate and various Employment Law seminars for a variety of employers across New Brunswick. Trisha is currently the Regional President of the New Brunswick Canadian Red Cross Society and a member of the Administrative Law, Labour and Employment Law, Women Lawyers Forum and

JASON SCARBRO, CHRP, is the Director of Human Resources & Faculty Relations at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B. Celebrating its centenary in 2010, St. Thomas is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a student enrolment of 2,400 and a faculty / staff complement of over 300. Jason has led the HR Department at St. Thomas since 2006, and has previously led HR teams in a variety of manufacturing sectors since entering the Human Resources profession in 1999. He is currently the president of the Fredericton Chapter of the Human Resources Association of New Brunswick and a member of the Association’s Provincial

Executive. Jason completed his undergraduate work at the University of New Brunswick and received an M.A. in Clinical-Developmental Psychology from York University. He is also a former graduate of the UNB/NBCC Human Resources Management Certificate Program. Jason has taught part-time since 2007 at both St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick in the areas of

psychology and organizational behaviour.

JOANNE FRASER’s management background in the public, private and international non-government sectors brings a wealth of experience to her training and facilitation work. For the past twelve years she has worked as an independent consultant. Currently Ms. Fraser provides training and facilitation services through the consulting firm RiverSystems: Leadership, Strategy and Organizational Development. She has designed and delivered training workshops in project management, leadership and team skills, coaching basics, conflict resolution, communication and negotiation skills. Joanne regularly leads workshops with provincial government employees in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. For Dalhousie University’s College of Continuing Education she is a facilitator in their Certificate in Adult Education program. Joanne also facilitates intercultural effectiveness training for the Centre for Intercultural Learning. Her overseas experience was in the South Pacific region where she lived and worked for seven years. Ms. Fraser has a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University. She holds a BSc degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a MSc degree in Comparative Development and International Policy from the University of Bristol, England.

ROBERT PENNEY, CA, holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Political Science from Saint Thomas University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993. Since then, Robert has held senior positions in both the public and private sector and is currently the Superintendent of Credit Unions / Inspector of Co-operatives for the Province of New Brunswick. An experienced lecturer and public presenter, he has also been involved in communications strategy, speech writing and debate preparation and has participated in panel discussions on CBC television.

ELAINE LECLERC is President of HCS Training and Consulting. She has been providing training and organizational consulting services to business, industry and government for more than 20 years. In addition to designing and delivering

workshops and speaking at conferences, Elaine provides coaching to individuals and teams and works within organizations to manage transitions and create healthy and effective workplace environments. She is a graduate of UNB Fredericton, and lives in Douglas Harbour, New Brunswick.

POL VINCTER is an organizational development consultant based in Falmouth, Nova Scotia. He has worked in the human resource and organizational development area as an advisor, manager, designer, group facilitator and project development officer - throughout Atlantic Canada, and overseas. Pol has a B.Sciences Degree from Sir George Williams University in Montreal (1972), and two years of Electrical

Engineering. Over the last 28 years, Pol has pursued a life-long learning policy of continuous self improvement, acquiring skills and expertise in setting up Quality Management Cultures, Structures and Methods, in both public and private

enterprises. He has earned three years in a row, the President’s prize at both UNB et Université de Moncton, for being the best instructor in the Public Services Management Programme. Pol believes in going full–out to support committed learning adults. As the Japanese are fond of saying: “when the student is ready, the teacher will come!”.
