-A sound and Liberal

Education.

in 1843 our founders declared their goal “to offer the country a sound and liberal education.”

to this day our primary focus remains delivering a broad-based education in an intimate

learning environment that encourages exploration and discovery. Located in the beautiful

Eastern townships of Quebec, Bishop’s is an English University offering programs in

Business, Education, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Learning at Bishop’s starts with a small group and a question.

With fewer than 2,500 students, we offer some of the smallest class sizes in the country.

you want to get to know your professors? no problem. you won’t be a number here.

We won’t let you. We provide our students with personalized attention. We listen.

We debate. We push students to expand their horizons. We believe in interdisciplinary

study, and in gaining a broad foundation of knowledge about the wider world.

our students are empowered to deal with complexity, diversity, and change.

Choosing to study at Bishop’s means you are seeking an educational experience

that is going to be unique, exceptional, and transformational.

one thing’s for sure. you’re going to change a lot during your time here.

first year classes are all about introductions—to new subjects, to your professors

and to your peers. in many ways it’s an introduction to yourself—you’re about

to see what you’re made of. you’ll be hitting the books, and the material will

challenge you. Over time, you will be confident in your ability to form an argument,

write an excellent paper, and speak your mind.

Learning in a non-judgmental community is the best way to build one's identity

and to develop the confidence to try new things. that's why Bishop's students

have consistently rated their experience as amongst the most satisfying and most

engaging in Canada, and why they go on to do amazing things with their lives.

a lot of what happens here depends on you. Creating an academic environment where

you can grow and change depends on us.

Big enough

to explore something

new every day,

and small enough to

always be running into

someone you know.

Situated on over 550 acres of green

space, Bishop’s has exceptional indoor

and outdoor facilities that cater to the

people who live, work and study here every

day. Whether you’re interested in the arts,

sports or just hanging out with friends—

there’s always a place to enjoy yourself

on campus. From our art gallery, theatres

and restaurants, to the community garden

and stunning new Health and Wellness

complex—it’s all here.

-Located an hour

and a half from

Montreal, Bishop’s

is nestled in the

English borough of

Lennoxville in the

city of sherbrooke.

The local pubs,

shops and bakeries

will welcome you

warmly.

This region of Quebec is well known for its natural beauty, and

multi-cultural flair. You’ll find theatre, dancing and music fill the

air in all four seasons. Trade summer bike paths and hiking trails

for ski slopes and snowshoes when the snow starts flying.

Bishop’s is located in the heart of ski country; eight hills within

90 minutes of Lennoxville. Did we mention the golf course

on campus? And how about the food? It’s local and exceptional.

here are some very important notes if you are applying to Bishop’s from a CEgEp. No program-specific prequisites from CEgEp are

re-quired to apply to Bishop’s. A DEC and a strong R-score from any CE-gEp will get you into virtually any program you choose. You will have the opportunity to take the program- specific courses you need once here.

No English language proficiency exam is required for Quebec students. Bishop’s supports language transi-tioning by allowing Francophone stu-dents to write their exams in French if needed and by providing writing skills

support. While CEgEp graduates represent nearly 45% of our student body, you will benefit from joining a community that includes students from every province and territory and 52 countries around the world!

The ability to recognize opportunities.

The confidence to act.

Come for the experience.

Leave with your story.

in my first year as principal, i addressed the entering class. i shared with them my career as a lawyer, community leader and newspaper publisher, and invited students who were interested in such topics to visit my office for further discussion. The next day, six students arrived at my office door. This is the personal nature of Bishop’s. it is truly education on a human scale. i'm proud to watch students realize their potential, whether on stage, in a classroom or as a member of one of our varsity teams. This is a community bursting with ambition, full of students who are capable and willing to take on the challenges our world faces. our model of education provides them the tools to act, the confidence to perform and the knowledge to ask the right questions. in an increasingly complex world, our most effective leaders will be those who can innovate across disciplines. students from across Canada and around the world will find learning at Bishop’s conducive to building lifelong friendships and to realizing their future ambitions.
