Review and Preview

Hey there Everyone!

It’s great to see you all back again!

First, we got right down to using English to help everyone settle into their new teams we did a short introduction chain game. A great time was had by all!

Next, we went over our new schedule / plan for the semester. It is a little different this time because before each unit we will learn a new skill. We talked about each unit and the main activities we will use to help with learning English.

I think that we all had some fun learning more about other students in class when we did the survey about “Find someone who ....”

Again, it was lovely to see all of your smiling faces!!

See you all next week, JO-sensei

A: Effective Visuals

Hello Again!

In today’s class we covered a lot.

* We started off with our class survey – find someone who and we had some interesting results! Found a few people who also like a good murder mystery like me!

* Then spent time on learning about what kind of visuals there are and especially kinds of graphs like:

horizontal bar graph vertical bar graph

line graph

The Visuals:

Read about Explaining Visuals

Review everything from today’s class too

*We didn’t get time to learn KISS but do it next week:

KISS

= Keep Information (it) Short and Simple.

* Next we watch a bad presentation followed by working on seeing solutions for problem slides of a PowerPoint.

*And finally, we watch the good presentation.

I know today was maybe a little bit heavy but all of this will help to be able to make better visuals.

Thanks for your hard work today! It will all help build your speaking confidence I am sure of that!

See you ALL next week eh! Later Gators,

JO-sensei

*Next we talked about the speaker going from a bad to good performance.

*After that we started into learning about how to talk with visuals and learnt some need ways using:

IEE = Introduce + Explain + Emphasize

*We also learnt about KISS too.

* Finally after some practice we did our 2 review quizzes which I will be checking very soon too!

Hello Again Everyone:

We had some good times today!

We started off with a quick vocabulary quiz.

Before we got into the textbook we brainstormed about the issues / concerns facing young people today. A lot of great information came up here: healthy lifestyles; social; educational; communication and more.

Then we moved onto our new lesson’s topic focus about what young people like and dislike and what their habits are too! We did some comparisons between our class and the students mentioned in the survey results. Some big differences could be seen.

After that we did our own class survey activity on page 21 We didn’t get to discuss our results but will start our next class with that topic and expand on it too.

Finally, we talked about our Campus Life Survey Project: choosing pairs and our topics.

Good work today!

Later Gators, JO-sensei

Hi Everyone!

Hope you like your new teams. I thought that it was important to mix you up to increase your thinking especially for our new topic on opinions. I am looking forward to hearing you all speak a lot!!

After signing in we voted on the style of presentation that we would use for this lesson. It was very tight and had to be decided by lottery. So the result was to have TV Talk Show Role Play style. The actually topic we will narrow down in next week’s class.

I know that today’s class was very heavy. But, it will be very important for you to study again your vocabulary for all of your units and then use them. Without these words you will not be able to express you thinking and feeling!!

Very good beginning today!! Now we have to get you using more vocabulary in order to be able to express yourselves.

Good job everyone,

See you all next week. Enjoy your time thinking about your personal issues.

Next week we will be spending most of the class putting it all together using what we have learned from Unit 5 and what we feel about our issues.
