to Bullying” program at the Ford Performing Arts Center.
We participated in a thirteen question true-false quiz about bullying. One Rotarian at each table via their smart phone an- swered the questions to the quiz with support from the other Rotarians at the table. A software program called Kahoot.it was utilized. There were five teams and each team was named. It was a competition between the teams and points were earned for speed and correct answers. Team names were: Refugees, No Tech, Past Presidents, CM-Bob-Neil, and Two of Us. No Tech ended up winning with a technical assist from Shan- non Peterson.
“Bullying is intentional, repeated aggressive behavior with an im- balance of power”; “One out of every three students is bullied”;
and “Peers are almost always present when bullying occurs” are several examples of the True- False questions we answered.
We learned about bullying and that Dearborn Public Schools has a cutting edge program to combat it. The schools track incidents, hold student and parent training programs to combat bullying, and hold District wide events to edu- cate about bullying. Three pillars of the program are respect and safety, empathy, and do not stand by. District has developed a 30 page parent tool box docu- ment to educate on bullying.
There is also a District Anti- Bullying Policy document. Ms.
Charles will share these docu- ments with us via e-mail. The Kahoot.it software on bullying education can be used at home at the dinner table. She also distrib- uted a sheet with a list of web- sites regarding combating bully- ing that parents can utilize as a resource.
Respectfully submitted, David Anderson
