Most of you are aware that I drive a school bus. This time of year the kids have a lot of colds and the flu. How do you tell the difference.

Flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but they are caused by different

viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar

symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more intense. Colds are usually milder than flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations. Flu can have very serious

The symptoms of flu can include fever or feeling feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue (tiredness). Cold symptoms are usually milder than the symptoms of flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems.

Dale and Sandy Barger

Dale and I, Sandy Barger met in Blythe, CA. at a restaurant owned by his family. The first night I worked I didn't do some things right and almost got fired. Dale defended me. A couple days later Dale asked me out. I met him later that night and we started friendship that lasted all summer.

In September Dale asked me to marry him, wow, I said yes and we got married in April, 1974. One year later after a trip to Oklahoma, we decided to move to Oklahoma and helped open a restaurant there. We ended up opening our own business in 1977. In 1986 we bought a parts house and auto service center. We operated that until we sold it in 2006.

Meantime we raised our 7 children and gained several grandchildren. All 7 children are married and doing quite well. We have 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. We also have a great, great grandson, who will be joined in April by a brother or sister.

Dale and I have been riding Motorcycles since 1978. Our first bike was a '78 Suzuki. That was upgraded to a 1983 Kawasaki Voyager. that we rode that until the summer of 1988.

We were on a trip to Wyoming to a rally, when our Voyager was traded for a '88 Gold Wing. ( The Voyager developed a overheating problem on our way to Amarillo, Tx). So with the help of several people we bought a new grey Gold Wing. We rode it until Aug. 1993 when Dale traded it for the '94 Green Gold Wing which we had when we moved to AZ. We kept this bike for 17 years.

Dale was at D & D one day talking about maybe getting an 1800 Gold Wing. Mel showed Dale the 2006 we now have.

We joined GWRRA in 2004 at Wing Ding in Arlington, TX. One of the first things we did when we got to Arizona was get in the Gold Book and look up the Chapter here in Mesa. Ted and Teena Prentice were the Directors at that time and promptly invited us o Chapter D. We found so many friends and have remained members of Chapter D ever since.

One more thing, in the summer of 2007, we made a trip of a life time, to

Canada and Alaska. This trip lasted 7 weeks and we rode somewhere around 10,000 miles. Ask Dale and he will be glad to tell you all about it. We even have pictures!!!

I am always looking for arcles, etc. to add to the newsleer. So, if you have a story a to tell, send it me to in a .doc, .docx, or .odt format.

All of us had a life outside of GW. I believe we would all enjoy learning more about each other pasts. If I could get a resume, biography (or even notes) from you, I would then in-corporate it into the newsleer. (One per month.)

Chapter-D Breakfast

As always we had a great breakfast at the Golden Corral. We had 39 Chapter-D members, including our Directors Patty Trap and Mark Norris, and 3 visitors. These included Bill and Susan Trask from Chapter-R and 1 other Terry Newman.

Our assistant director, Dave Prosser, did a great job of running the meeting. 50/25/25 was $50 and guess who was one of the winners, Patty. She also won at last month’s gathering.

Teena read us an except regarding helmet laws from husband and wife law team. We need to think twice about not wearing a helmet when riding. We are having a bike show following next month’s gathering, so please bring you shiny bike, including trailers, etc., for display.

D & D Appreciation

December 7th turned out to be a great day for this year’s D & D appreciation

day. Not sure how many attended but it seemed there were quite a few. Mark– had about a dozen motorcycles on display for sale. Included was a Can Am, some Harleys, Trikes, and GoldWings.

Part of the the appreciation day is always a great meal, served up my the Arizona Performance Drill Team, and prize drawings. They had two 50” TVs that were the grand prize with many other prizes being given out. - Chuck

Christmas Party

The Christmas Party, Saturday Night, was great success. The food and entertainment were superb. We had prime rib, turkey, ham, baked potatoes, salad and all the trimmings. (Many thanks goes to Patty and Frank Nemeth for the excellent prime rib, and well as others for the turkey and ham. And to the staff from Dave Prosser’s church for their help in serving and all that they provided.)

Mark was Mrs Santa Klaus and Beth Brinton’s son was Mr. Klaus. You should have seen the two of them in their outfits.

We had the same entertainment group as last year and they provided lots of opportunity for dancing.

Patty Trapp won ½ of the 50/25/2 (she had won ½ of the 50/25/25 at the morning gathering) and Tom Price was the other winner.

Many thanks goes go to Dave Prosser and the Chapter-D staff for a great evening.
