• We believe that offering a large choice of subjects will enable each child to reach their potential.

(11)

Optional

Subjects

• Geography • French • Spanish • Business Studies • Art • Woodwork • Technical Graphics • Metalwork • Home Economics • Music

(12)

Choosing Subjects

• We need you to help us to set everything up for next year by choosing now the subjects your child thinks they would like to study for the

Junior Cycle.

• We will use your choices to set up the timetable.

• Each student will be able to change subjects when they come in if they wish anytime right up until the October mid term.

• This will mean students will be able to study four optional subjects for the junior cycle.

• They will get more time on each of their subjects and they will be working on the subjects they like from the beginning.

(13)

• We totally understand that this may be difficult for students who are not familiar with all the subjects we offer but when they arrive we will work with each student to help them explore different options if they wish.

• Ms O’Riordan will give a presentation on the different subjects later. • Our aim is to ensure all students are happy and reach their potential

and helping students choose the right subjects is very important.

(14)

How the Option Process Works

(15)

Choose five of the following

• Geography • French • Spanish • Business Studies • Art • Woodwork • Technical Graphics • Metalwork • Home Economics • Music

Your choices here

1. _______________ 2. _______________ 3. _______________ 4. _______________ 5. _______________

(You will only get 4 subjects. Enter subjects in order of preference)

(16)

What will we do with the choices?

• The choices are fed into a special computer programme.

• It will then give us a set of options that satisfy the majority of students.

(17)

Sample Subject Bands

Band 1 Geography Art Home

Economics Business Studies French Music Woodwork Metalwork

Band 2 French Woodwork Music Art Home

Economics Geography Business Studies Technical Graphics Band 3 Spanish Technical

Graphics French Woodwork Metalwork Business Studies Home Economics Music Band 4 Business

Studies Metalwork Geography Technical Graphics Art French Woodwork Art

17

• Students will get one subject on each band depending on their choices • Students can only do each subject once

• Students can move subjects up until the mid term in October so they have time to settle in • There will be spare capacity in classes so it will be easy for students to move.

(18)

How to enter Subject Options

• You will be sent a link to an online questionnaire by text. • The link to the questionnaire is :

https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=5dxZqSWTaE6 FLpbAo2Za1t_r2Ov30rlEv4oBnRRfeAZUNldOREtWWDUzTEJQVkRPMk 5TN1YzNklOWi4u

• You will be asked to put in five subjects starting with the favourite and working your way down.

• The fifth choice will help the computer programme to create the bands.

(19)

How to enter Subject Options

• Each student will only be doing four of the subjects.

• You need to enter subject options before 25th March 2021.
