Position: UHT Plant Manager Location: Mokai Factory

Job Purpose
Reporting to the General Manager Operations the UHT Plant Manager is responsible for the production operation of the UHT and FMC plants by using the approved manufacturing programs and ensuring that all Company “Standards’ and “Objectives” are met with regard to health and safety, quality, cost, availability, yields and environmental issues. This role will also be responsible for process improvement opportunities and assist the General Manager Operations with site management and reporting functions.

1. UHT & FMC Operations, Process improvement s and cost control.
• Manage the UHT & FMC production operations from Milk intake to palletised product in accordance with the production manual to maximize the quality, effectiveness of the operations achieving agreed productivity and waste reduction targets.
• Monitors and reduces all losses, wastage and inefficient running of the plant to ensure yield targets are maximised. • Provides direction in the budget formulation and is then
responsible for monitoring fixed and variables cost under his/her control.
• Participate and support the engineering team and plant preventative maintenance process to ensure clear communication and cohesive plant operation.
• Provides shift work cover during annual leave and sick leave absences.
• Provides leadership and directs process improvement initiatives in the Plant.
• Provides technical and management systems reports. • Formulates and executes the annual business plan for the
UHT department in line with company objectives.
• A Company Culture is created and maintained that aligns with the Miraka values and vision.
• All service, budgetary and efficiency related targets are achieved. Specifically, overheads, wages and salaries, yields and product

2. Qualityassurance
and HACCP
Systems
• Ensure product meets required specifications.
• Contribute to and produce in accordance with the Miraka quality/HACCP plan to ensure the correct procedures are followed and required targets are achieved in line with regulatory compliance.
• Ensure the required component calibration works are conducted in a timely manner without conflict with the company’s quality and regulatory obligations.
• Manage product and milk sampling requirements. • Ensure efficient CIP schedules are maintained. • Promote quality achievement and performance
improvement throughout the factory.
• Participate and support the quality audit process and drive necessary action to ensure 100% adherence.
• The disciplines of quality achievement and performance are established and practiced in the Plant.
• Quality and wastage reduction targets are achieved.
• Products comply with customer, NZFSA and CODEX specifications. • Compliance with quality audits.
3. Environment Health, Safety & Risk Management and
Compliance
• Demonstrate positive health and safety leadership across the Miraka business.
• Responsible for health and safety performance in the UHT & FMC production departments.
• Responsible for the management of critical risk controls for activities undertaken within the UHT & FMC production department.
• Support, and develop, where needed, appropriate health, safety and risk management strategies and plans to ensure OSH compliance and minimize the Company’s exposure in all ways.
• Provides and maintains a healthy and safe work environment in the UHT & FMC plants.
• Identify and implement effluent reduction plans and manage consistent performance thereof.
• Carry out incident investigations and complete health and safety reporting as required.
• Ensure supervisors and staff are carrying out their duties with respect to reporting of hazards and incidents which are identified within the workplace.
• OSH and environmental management strategies and plans are developed, implemented, and managed.
• All staff treat the production of food ingredients with importance and ethics and accept the responsibilities
associated with hygiene and food safety and the non-negotiable standards required of them.
• Incident rates and LTI reduction plans are implemented and achieved. • Hazard identification and control
activities are maintained to a high standard.
• The Plant is a safe and healthy environment to work in through good housekeeping, staff training and timely identification and correction of all safety issues and incidents.

• Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with Maori shareholders and other key stakeholders. • Takes responsibility for developing effective working relationships and liaison with all site team members to ensure a highly motivated, supportive and nurturing culture is adopted.

5. Personnel Management
• Effective leadership of the personnel working in the UHT & FMC plants.

• Manage staff recruitment and inductions. Taking the lead in recruitment interviews. Company policies and
procedures are adhered to in regard to new staff inductions.
• Conduct formal performance planning and review activities in accordance with the Miraka performance management program.
• Identify and provide for professional development and technical training to equip staff to deliver on efficiency, regulatory and compliance.
• Conduct regular shift meetings to ensure knowledge transfer across all disciplines of H&S, quality, engineering and production transfer across shift teams.
• Payroll administration duties and management of leave balances.

• Liaising with the HR representative, vacant positions are filled efficiently in line with company processes.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Technical Skills
• A relevant technical, dairy or science tertiary qualification.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing UHT production teams with detailed knowledge on OSH, quality control, performance improvement.
Experience and knowledge required for effective
performance in the position. Including personal attributes or core competencies
• Proven experience in production management including: o UHT milk production facility
o Budgetary formulation and management
o People management with Human resource policy experience
o Achieving excellence in industry regulatory and manufacturing compliance o Maintaining strong relationships with staff and external stakeholders
o Establishing and fostering OSH, Manufacturing, Quality System and cost control disciplines o Maintain and review systems, processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and
