1. Introduction

This instruction manual is intended for users of the Trust SpyC@m. Prior knowledge is not necessary to install and use this product. If you have any questions, please consult one of the Trust Customer Care Centers. You can find more information about these Customer Care Centers on the last page of this electronic manual, as well as at the back of the quick installation manual.

The following conventions have been used in this manual to indicate instructions:

<key> Here you should press a key. The name of the key is given between brackets.

‘System’ This is a specific term used in a program. These are the terms used by, for example, Microsoft Windows 98.

[DIR] Key in the text shown in square brackets [….].

(term) The text between the parentheses (….) is the English term, e.g. (File) used in the figure referred to.

Note: Turn off the computer before connecting the device.

The examples assume that the letter “D” has been assigned to your CD-ROM drive. If your system uses a different drive letter for your CD-ROM drive, for example “E”, you should replace “D” by “E”.

1.1 Contents of the packaging

Please check the contents of the package before reading the instruction manual. It should contain the following:

• Camera

• Stand

• Clip

• USB cable

• Batteries (2x AAA)

• CD-ROM containing the drivers, applications and instruction manual

• The quick installation manual

If anything is missing or damaged, please contact one of the Trust Care Centers. You can find more information at the back of this instruction manual.

1.2 Minimum system requirements

• Pentium P133 CPU and 32 MB RAM

• Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows 2000

• A free USB port

• At least 50 MB free hard disk space (for installation)

• 4x CD-ROM drive

2. Safety

2.1 General

1. Do not use this device is a damp environment.

2. Never stick anything into the slots on the outside of the device.

3. Do not try to repair this device yourself.

4. If any of the following circumstances occur, remove the plug from the power socket and have the device repaired by qualified personnel:

a) The cable or plug is damaged or worn.

b) Fluid has entered the device.

c) The device has been dropped and/or the housing is damaged.

5. Position the device so that the cables cannot be damaged.

2.2 Batteries

1. The batteries are not rechargeable. Do not try to recharge them, because this may cause an explosion.

2. Never throw the batteries onto an open fire. The batteries may explode.

3. Never drill into the batteries.

4. Keep the batteries out of the reach of small children.

5. When the batteries are empty, ask your local authority where you can dispose of them.

Digital cameras use a lot of energy. Although this is normal for this type of camera, Trust recommends the following to limit the cost of use:

• Use rechargeable batteries. Only AAA Alkaline / NiMH batteries are suitable for this camera.

Note: Standard NiCd batteries are not suitable for use.

3. Installing the software

The driver and the applications provided must be installed before the camera can be used. This only has to be carried out once.

The camera is TWAIN compatible. You can use the camera in image editing programs that support TWAIN, such as Photo Express.

Note: The driver must be installed before the camera is connected.

3.1 Software Installer

1. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The Installer will start automatically. Figure 1 will appear.

If figure 1 does not appear, follow the steps given below.

a) Select 'Run' from the Start menu.

b) Type [D:\SETUP.EXE] and click on ‘OK’ to start the Trust Software Installer.

2. Click on 'Trust FunC@m and Trust SpyC@m'.

3. Figure 2 will appear. Click on the language you wish to use during the installation.

3.2 Installing ‘Trust FunC@m and Trust SpyC@m ‘

1. Click on ‘Install Trust FunC@m and Trust SpyC@m’ in figure 3 to install the driver. Figure 4 will appear.

3. The driver will now be installed. Figure 6 will appear after the installation. Click on ‘OK’ to complete the installation and restart your computer.

You have now completed the installation of the Trust SpyC@m. Continue to the following chapters for the installation of the applications.

3.3 Installing Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE

Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE is an image editing program that you can use to load and edit the images on your computer that you have made using the Trust SpyC@m. Follow the instructions below to install Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE.

1. Go to the installation screen and click on 'Install Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE' (see figure 3).

2. Figure 7 will appear. Click on 'Install'.

5. Click on 'Yes' to accept the license agreement and continue with the installation. Figure 10 will appear.

9. Click on ‘Next’. Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE will now be installed. Figure 14 will appear after the installation.

10. Disable the option for 'online' registration and click on 'Finish'. Figure 15 will appear.

You have now completed the installation of Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE. See chapter 3.4 for the installation of VideoLive Mail Plus.

3.4 Installing VideoLive Mail Plus

You can use VideoLive Mail Plus to send video and audio multimedia e-mails. To use this program, you need to have a modem or ISDN connection, a sound card with speakers and a microphone, and an Internet connection.

Follow the instructions below to install VideoLive Mail.

1. In the installation screen, click on 'Install VideoLive Mail' (see figure 3).

2. Figure 16 will appear. Click on ‘Next’.

4. Click on 'Yes' to accept the license agreement and continue with the installation. Figure 18 will appear.

5. Fill in your name, company and the CD-Key. The CD-Key is given on the CD box. Click on ‘Next’. Figure 19 will appear.

Note: The installation will be stopped if you do not fill in anything for your company name. Always fill in something here.

7. Click on ‘Next’. VideoLive Mail Plus will now be installed. Figure 21 will appear after the installation.

You have now completed the installation of VideoLive Mail Plus. See chapter 3.5 for the installation of Cool 360.

3.5 Installing COOL 360

Ulead COOL 360 is an image editing program that you can use to change the images you have made using the Trust SpyC@m into panoramic photographs. Follow the instructions below to install COOL 360 (see figure 3).

1. In the installation screen, click on 'Install COOL 360'. Figure 22 will appear.

2. Click on ‘Next’. Figure 23 will appear.

3. Click on 'Yes' to accept the license agreement and continue with the installation. Figure 24 will appear.

8. Disable the option for 'online' registration and click on 'Finish'.

You have now completed the installation of Ulead COOL 360. See chapter 3.6 for the installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0.

3.6 Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0

Adobe Acrobat Reader is an application needed to read the instruction manuals contained on the CD-ROM.

Follow the instructions below to install Acrobat Reader 4.0.

1. Go to he installation screen (see figure 3) and click on 'Install Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0'. Figure 29 will appear.

3. Click on ‘Accept’ to accept the license agreement. Figure 31 will appear.

4. Click on ‘Next’. Acrobat Reader 4.0 will now be installed. Figure 32 will appear after the installation.

You have now completed the installation of Acrobat Reader. You can read the instruction manual by clicking on 'Read manual' in the installation screen (see Figure 3). In the next screen that is displayed, select the language you wish to use.

See chapter 3.7 for the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (NetMeeting).

3.7 Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (NetMeeting)

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is a program with various applications for Internet use, such as a web browser and an e-mail program (Outlook Express). 'NetMeeting' is also supplied with Internet Explorer 5.0.

You can use Microsoft NetMeeting to communicate with friends, colleagues and other people using images and sound. To use this program, you need to have a modem or ISDN connection, a sound card with speakers and a microphone, and an Internet connection. The program is included on the Software disk.

Please refer to installation given on the CD-ROM for the installation of NetMeeting.

You can read the NetMeeting manual after the installation.

Continue to chapter 4 for the use of the camera and the applications.

4. Camera functions

Description Function

1 Stand The camera is placed in this if the webcam function is used.

2 Exposure button Takes the image.

3 Lens Records the image to be taken.

4 Clip Can be used to clip the camera to clothing.

5 Belt clip Can be used to clip the camera to a belt.

6 Viewfinder Used to view the subject of the image.

7 Menu button Used to turn on the camera and scroll through the menu.

8 LCD display See chapter 4.1 for the functions of the LCD display.

9 Digital output Connection for the USB cable.

4.1 LCD display functions

Description Function

Clear This option is used to delete the images stored in the camera.

Repeat mode This option is used to take several photographs one after the other.

High resolution 352 x 288 (24 bits colours)

Low resolution 176 x 144 (24 bits colours)

Automatic

exposure This option is used to turn on the automatic exposure.

No. of photos Gives the number of photos that can still be taken in the high resolution mode.

No. of photos Gives the number of photos that can still be taken in the low resolution mode.

The different functions can be turned on using the menu button (7) (see figure 33).

See chapters 5.4.1 and 5.4.4 for instructions on how to set the various functions.

5. Use

5.1 Installing the batteries

Insert the batteries into the camera as follows:

1. Slide the battery flap on the back of the camera to the left as shown in figure 34.

2. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment as shown in figure 34. You can also read how the batteries must be inserted into the camera on the inside of the camera.

3. Close the battery flap.

Note: Inserting the batteries incorrectly will damage the camera.

Note: Only use the same type of alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries (2x AAA).

5.2 Connecting the cables

Note: The driver must be installed before you can connect the camera.

1. Start Windows.

2. Turn the camera off.

3. Connect the USB cable to connection 9 on the camera (see figure 33).

4. Connect the other end of the USB cable into a free USB port on your computer.

5. The camera will turn itself on and be detected by your computer. The driver will be automatically located.

5.3 Taking photographs

Follow the instructions given below. Also see figure 33.

1. Turn on the camera by pressing button (7). The LCD display at the back will be turned on and the camera will be ready for use.

2. Search for the subject that you wish to photograph in the viewfinder (6) and keep this in view for a couple of seconds before you take the photograph.

3. Press the exposure button (2) to capture the subject.

4. To take more photographs, repeat these points from point 2.

5. The camera will turn off automatically after 30 seconds if it is not used.

Note: Do not touch the lens, because this can effect the quality of the photographs.

5.4 Menu options

The Trust SpyC@m has a number of options that you can adjust. Follow the instructions below to adjust these options. Also see figure 33.

5.4.1 Adjusting the photograph quality

Two different qualities can be chosen, i.e. High Resolution and Low Resolution.

The photographs in Low Resolution have a resolution of 176 x 144 (24 bit colours). A maximum of 80 photographs can be taken in Low Resolution.

The photographs in High Resolution have a resolution of 352 x 288 (24 bit colours). A maximum of 20 photographs can be taken in High Resolution.

5.4.2 Using the automatic exposure

The automatic exposure gives a time delay of 10 seconds between pressing the button and taking the photograph.

The automatic exposure can be activated by pressing the Menu button (7) until the letters St are shown in the LCD display.

Next, press the exposure button (2).

The automatic exposure is automatically turned off after the photograph has been taken.

The automatic exposure must be turned on every time that you wish to use it.

5.4.3 Deleting photographs

The photographs can be deleted by pressing the Menu button until the letters CL are shown in the LCD display.

The exposure button (2) must be pressed to delete the photographs. The letters CL will flash. All the photographs will be deleted by pressing the exposure button (2) again.

5.4.4 Repeat function

The repeat function can be used to take repeated photographs one after the other without having to release the exposure button (2).

The Repeat function can be activated by pressing the Menu button (7) until the letters Ct are shown in the LCD display.

The exposure button (2) must now be kept pressed.

The Repeat function will be automatically turned off after the exposure button (2) is released.

The Repeat function must be turned on every time that you wish to use it.

5.5 Viewing photographs on your computer

You can use the Trust SpyC@m to view the photographs that you have taken on your computer. Connect the camera to your computer as described in chapter 5.2.

The camera is now ready for use. See chapter 6 for instructions on how to load the photographs into your computer.

6. Using the software

6.1 Using Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE

A short description of the use of the camera in Ulead Photo Express 3.0 SE is given below. For more information about Photo Express 3.0 SE, please read this program's instruction manual that is included on the CD-ROM.

1. Start Photo Express 3.0 SE. Figure 35 will appear.

2. Select ‘Digital camera’. 'Trust FunC@m and Trust SpyC@m' is shown in the window. Click on ‘OK’.

3. In the main Photo Express menu, select 'Get' (A) and then 'Import' (B). The 'Import Module' screen (C) will appear next to the photo album window (see figure 36).

4. Select 'Open to workspace' (D) to send the images to the application (see figure 36).

5. Give the name of the file in field (E) (see figure 36).

6. Give the type of file (e.g. JPEG) in field (F) (see figure 36).

7. Click on ‘Import’ (G). Figure 37 will appear. See the table below for this screen's functions.

I Loads the selected capture in screen H into the computer.

J Loads all the captures in screen H into the computer.

K Makes a connection between the computer and the camera.

Function Description

N There are various functions in this submenu of the 'Edit' screen that you can use to edit the image.

O ‘Print’ button: Prints the edited image on your printer.

P ‘Share’ button: Saves the edited image to your hard disk, sends the edited image by e-mail or fax, or saves it as a HTML document (Internet).

Q ‘Express’ button: More functions that you can use to edit the image.

R A 'thumbnail' (small example) of the image is shown here. Click on the red arrow next to the thumbnail to see all your images.

Click on the thumbnail of the image that you wish to edit.

6.2 Using VideoLive Mail 6.2.1 Once-only settings

When you start the VideoMail Live program for the first time, a Setup Wizard will be displayed that you use to configure the program (figure 39). We recommend you to use this Wizard.

Note: You should have the information concerning your Internet Service Provider available when setting your mail server.

1. Click 'Yes' to continue. Figure 40 will appear.

2. Click on 'Next' to continue. The window for inputting your user identification will appear (see figure 41).

3. Fill in your {First Name}, surname {Last Name} and e-mail address {E-Mail} (see figure 41).

4. Click on ‘Next’ to continue. Figure 42 will appear.

5. Fill in your ‘Mail Server' information (you can obtain this information from your ISP) and your ‘account name’. Click on 'Next' to continue. Figure 43 will appear.

6. Give the frames per second (fps) you wish to use and click on the 'Test It?' button to compare the image. Click on the 'Stop' button to continue with the configuration.

7. Click on the 'Setup' button if you wish to alter your camera settings. Select 'Format' to set the image format of your camera. From the menu, select 'Source' if you wish to alter the following settings (see figure 44).

Brightness Adjusts the brightness.

Contrast Adjusts the contrast.

Color Adjusts the colour.

Compression Control Adjusts the compression: Little compression - better quality. More compression - faster video images.

Compression Mode Optimal compression setting for the Video image or video conferencing.

1. Click on 'Next' once you have adjusted all the settings to your preference.

2. Click on 'Next' to adjust the audio settings. The ‘Audio Configuration 2/3’ window will appear (see figure 45).

3. Click on ‘Press Here to Test Speaker’ to test the output volume of your speakers. Move the slidebar to adjust the volume.

4. Click on 'Next' once the settings are correct and you wish to continue with the configuration. Figure 46 will appear.

5. Click on the red button to start recording. Click on the black square to stop recording. Click on the black triangle to listen to the recording. You can adjust the recording level using the slidebar.

6. Click on 'Next' once the settings are correct and you wish to continue with the configuration.

7. Click on 'Finish' to complete the configuration of VideoLive Mail.

Your settings for VideoLive Mail have now been saved. You are now able to use the program. If necessary, you can change the settings using the program's 'Setup Wizard' (Start-Programs- Cyberlink VideoMail Plus).

6.2.2 Using VideoLive Mail Plus

1. Start the program by clicking on the icon on your desktop. (The program will start automatically if you have just completed the Setup Wizard for the first time).

2. Figure 47 will be displayed on your monitor.

Using the VideoMail Wizard makes it easy to create and sent a VideoMail.

1. Click on the ‘VideoMail Wizard’ button (button 4, figure 48). The ‘Select Mail Type’ window will appear.

2. Select ‘Message Containing Video and Audio’ and click on ‘Next’ to continue. The 'Video Quality Control' window will appear.

3. Configure the Video Quality and click on 'Next' to continue. The ‘Start to Record Video Mail’ window will appear.

4. Click on the ‘Record’ button to start recording. Click the 'Stop' button when the recording has been completed. Click on 'Next' to continue. The ‘Complete VideoLive Mail’ window will appear.

5. Choose the following in this window:

‘Play’ to play the recording.

‘Save’ to save the recording.

‘Mail’ to send the recording via e-mail as an .exe file.

6. Click on 'Finish' to close the Wizard.

This program contains many more functions and possibilities. For more information, please read this program's manual contained on the CD-ROM.

6.3 Using Ulead COOL 360

Please refer to the Ulead COOL 360 instruction manual contained on the CD-ROM. This manual can be found at the following location:

D:\Software\Cool360\Manual\C360.pdf

Acrobat Reader must be installed to read this manual.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Cause Possible solution

The batteries are empty. Replace the batteries. See chapter 5.1.

The batteries are fit

‘Auto-off’ function is turned

on. Turn the power back on. See chapter 5.

No photograph is taken when the exposure button is pressed.

The memory is full. Delete images from the memory.

There is a bad cable

connection. Reconnect the cables. See chapter 5.2.

There is no

connection with the computer.

The computer becomes jammed when using USB.

The USB port has shared

IRQ with another device. Remove cards from the computer or redivide the IRQ.

The drivers have already

been installed. Start Windows via F8 in 'Safe Modes' and

remove the old drivers. Next, restart the computer and reinstall the drivers.

The computer's USB port

does not work. Remove the USB port from the 'Device Manager' and reinstall it.

The USB port has not been

There is a bad cable

connection. Reconnect the cables. See chapter 5.2.

Windows does not detect any new device after the camera has been connected via USB.

The camera is turned off. Turn the camera on.
