Logging in

Enter the web address: www.lexisnexis.com/uk/legal This will take you to the log in page.

It is a good idea to save this page as a favourite or add a link to it on your desktop.

To do this:

1. Right click anywhere on the sign in page.

2. Click on Create shortcut.

3. Click Yes to the question Do you want to put a shortcut on your desktop? This will put our logo as a link on your desktop which should take you straight into the site.

Now enter your UserID and password and check the Remember Me box is ticked. This will sign you in to LexisLibrary.

Browsing EF&P on LexisLibrary

The browsing functionality on LexisLibrary allows you to replicate the experience of browsing EF&P as you would the hard copy. This is useful if you are familiar with the layout of the hard copy or wish to find specific clauses.

Click on the blue Browse link next to the title of the work in the bookshelf.

This will show you the Table of contents showing the titles of the volumes of the work, as they appear on the spines of the hard copy.

1. To drill into any volume, or part of a volume, click on the

+

to the left of it.

2. You can also click on Open all levels to open everything within a particular section or chapter in one action

3. Drill down through the table of contents using the

+

symbols.

4. When you have found the relevant document you wish to view, click on the blue wording which is linked to see it.

5. This will take you to the document view - see page 12.

The EF&P Key Document Finder

One of the easiest ways to navigate EF&P to locate KEY Precedents is to use the EF&P Key Document Finder. It can be reached by the following steps:

1. Click on the blue Browse link after EF&P Key Document Finder in your bookshelf on the home page which will take you to this screen:

2. Click on either of the blue links which says EF&P Key Document Finder.

This then shows an overview of the key areas in EF&P broken down by topic:

3. Click on the area you wish to view e.g. ‘purchase and supply agreements’.

This will then show a list of the key documents in this area. Click on the blue number for the document you wish to use.

This will again take you to the document view - see page 12.

Searching EF&P for Precedents

Enter search terms into the Form or Precedent box in the blue Quick Find section on the homepage. This is set to search against the title of forms or precedents only available on your subscription.

The Form or Precedent box in the Quick Find area has a suggested search function which, as you type, works to find a match for the words you have entered in the title.

If the title of the document you are searching appears in the list of suggestions, click on the link to open it. This will run a search for the exact title of the document selected and take you to the document view – see page 12.

Searching Quick-Find using terms and connectors or phrases.

For documents with common titles, the suggested searches list might not display the precedent you’re looking for. It is therefore possible to search EF&P to show a list of results using the principle of ‘terms and connectors’.

Using the and connector:

To find all documents with two or more words in the title, but not necessarily as a phrase, enter the words you would expect to find in the title of a document, putting the word and as a connector in-between your words e.g. deed of variation and spouse

If you ignore the suggested searches list and click Find this will show a list of results of precedents with the phrase ‘deed of variation’ and the word ‘spouse’ in the title.

Click on the title of the precedent to view it which will take you to the document view – see page 12.

3. The text of the precedent is shown on the right. To quickly review the document, select the Preview button to the right of the document.

3. You can place additional words, phrases and connectors in the Search within results box to narrow a search further.

3. The left hand navigation panel contains the Table of Contents. You can select this to filter your results onto a

particular part of the work.

The Document View

Once you have located a relevant document using any of the above methods, it will bring you to the Document View.

Click here to view the Table of Contents to see where you within the work. You can move forward or back to the next document and navigate around the section to alternative documents.

The text of the precedent is shown.

Downloading a Document to use for Drafting

When you have found a precedent you wish to use select the Word icon in the Other formats available box to the right of the page or beside the document title.

1. Click on the Word icon and you will be asked if you wish to Open or Save the document. It is safest to Save your document before editing it.

2. Save the document to your desired location and rename it as required.

3. The downloaded Word document can then be opened from where it has been saved. This saved document will have auto-numbering enabled and the annotations stripped out ready for drafting.

Printing, e-mailing or downloading documents with the annotations included

You might wish to use the document with the annotations and footnotes included. Once you are in the document view, there are 4 icons on the towards the right of the grey banner at the bottom of the screen.

Print documents to your default printer.

Email documents to yourself or colleagues.

Download Documents to Word (with annotations included).

Add documents to your My Documents folder at the top of the screen.

Each of these will open up a window with further options of how you want the document to be delivered.

3. If you wish to have the annotations and footnotes included in the delivered document, ensure the Hide Annotations box is un- ticked.
