Attention 4th year students:

I hope you are all enjoying your summer. We look forward to your return in the fall. There are several pieces of information your instructors and the undergraduate administrative team would like to bring to your attention as you plan for your return in the Fall. These are organized under the following headings:

• CPR

• Certificate of Conduct • Registration information • Email addresses

• Scholarships and Awards • Planning travel

• International nursing

• N3523 Course evaluation • ATI exam date

• Graduation information bulletin

• Course information bulletins • Save the Dates!

Please keep this information for future reference. CPR L e v e l HCP

All students in the BN (Collaborative) Nursing Program must provide proof of current CPR Level-HCP certification. Students must submit a copy of their current certificate to MUNSON’s Clinical Program Administrator, Alison Maddigan-Cox.

CPR-HCP re-certification will be required for all nursing students every 12 months, while they are registered in the nursing program.

Students are accountable to ensure they have completed the CPR-HCP re-certification before or during the month of expiration.

Students will not be allowed to attend clinical practice if they do not complete the above requirement.

Keep a copy of all documents submitted to the School of Nursing

for your records.

A listing on the Child Abuse Registry, or failure to report the listing, will result in dismissal. R egi st rat ion f or Fal l 2015

Single e-mail policy in effect. University officials are now reminding students - particularly those wanting to e-mail specific departments and units with questions over the summer - their e-mails must be sent through accounts with the official Memorial domain names - @mun.ca.

List-serves have been created as the primary means of informing students about the program. The information contained in this newsletter is being sent out to @mun.ca e-mail only. If you have a classmate that is not aware of this information, pass this along and suggest they forward their latest e-mail address to Elaine St. Croix at [email protected]

We certainly hope that you get to return home for family visits during the semester. While it is your decision to make plans for such visits you should know that classes, labs and clinical time are not cancelled to accommodate students who may wish to take extended midterm breaks, long weekends, etc. Midterm exams, lab exams or assignments also are not deferred or changed for this reason.

For the same reason, do not book flights home before confirming your final examination schedule. The examination period for Fall 2015 commences on Wednesday, December 9 and ends on Friday, December 18. DO NOT book any flights home, or until you have confirmed your personal exam schedule with the official university examination timetable [released in November].

Supplementary exams for the Fall semester are normally scheduled for the day immediately preceding the first day of classes in the Winter Semester; this year’s date is Wednesday Jan. 6th, 2016. Take this into consideration when

booking your return flight to campus if you want to reserve your opportunity to write a supplementary exam if needed.

Many students are becoming more interested in working on foreign aid projects in e.g., Africa or South America. We are then asked if we could arrange clinical

placements there. While we certainly support your independent endeavours on your own time, to arrange a placement for a clinical course usually is not possible due to scheduling, resources, and the legal arrangements required.

ions During the first few weeks of classes, you will be asked to complete course

evaluation forms for your preceptorship course N3523. This activity will be booked within the first two weeks of September.

NURS 4512 (Community Health Practicum)

Placement requests for N4512 (Community Health Practicum) have been sent to receiving coordinators in all four Health Authorities. Andrea Watkins will give you an update in September regarding the status of those requests.

NURS 4516 (Consolidated Practicum)

Faculty assigned to teach N4516 and Andrea Watkins will organize a meeting in early fall to talk to you about your options for this course. Remember that placements in speciality areas and areas outside of St John’s are very limited. The following criteria approved by Undergraduate Studies Committee will be used to determine student suitability for those placements:

1. Clinical performance throughout the program 2. Academic standing in theory courses.

(5)

4. Pre-clinical placement requirements must be met as of the date 1 month prior the commencement of the placement.

Note: The School of Nursing arranges and approves all student placements and these placements may be changed at any time due to unforeseen circumstances.
