Cable Test Module ( HVT-25)

Single-phase connection to object

HVT-25 is intended for the following work performance:

· Tests of power cable lines with paper-oil insulation and operating voltage up to 25 kV; · Tests of power cable lines from XLPE with operating voltage up to 25 kV;

· Fault locating in power cables with operating voltage up to 25 kV with the use of equipment and devices for preliminary and exact location.

Laboratory performs the following functions:

1. Test of cables by the raised VLF voltage 0,1 – 0,02 Hz

2. Test of cables by the raised rectified voltage with the control of leakage current 3. Measurement of resistance of cables insulation

4. Burning of damages insulation of power cables

5. Measurement of distance to fault location in cable by pulse method and arc reflection method 6. Cable fault locating by acoustic method

7.. Cable fault locating by inductive method

A. HIPOT TEST

1. MAIN EQUIPMENT.

Laboratory equipment is provisionally subdivided into the main equipment (assembled) and additional equipment (completed). Such division allows planning buildup of laboratory functions, increasing its efficiency.

A1. DC HIPOT TEST

1.1. Equipment DC Hipot / Megohmmeter PTS- 75F(USA)

The PTS Series of Portable DC Test Sets are combination high voltage proof testers and high voltage Megohmmeters. Testing dielectric strength and insulation resistance is now served with one instrument that is designed and constructed with field

(2)

· Five range current meter with a 0-1 uA low range for Leakage Current measurements

· 10 mA output current rating for fast charging

· Resistance measurements at any output voltage

· Regulated input for accurate, reliable results (ideal for field generator use) ± 1% stability with ± 10% line change

· Ripple less than 2.5% RMS

Rugged case with cushion grip handles and shorting stick included

A2. AC HIPOT TEST

1.2 Equipment AC Hipot VLF-4022CM(F)

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS DESCRIPTION

A VLF hipot is just an AC output tester but with an output frequency of 0.1 Hz or lower rather than 50/60Hz. Although the frequency is very low, it is still an alternating current with polarity reversals every half cycle. At 0.1 Hz output, rather than 60Hz, it takes 600 times less current and power to apply an AC voltage to a capacitive load, like a long cable. There is no better way to verify the AC integrity of a cable than to hipot it with AC voltage. VLF hipots are used to provide a go/no-go, or pass/fail, voltage withstand test. It can also be used as the voltage source for diagnostic cable testing.

(3)

FEATURES

· Portable and affordable/ Simple and easy operation · True sine-wave output/ Highest load ratings available

· Waveform is independent of load capacitance between 0.01 mF and maximum load · AC testing does not degrade good cable insulation

· Harmful space charges are not injected into the cable insulation · No travelling waves are generated during testing

· Rugged and reliable design less prone to failure from transients · Much easier to service compared to units with solid state design

CONTROLLED ENERGY CAPACITOR DISCHARGE SYSTEMS SURGE GENERATOR/THUMPER

1.3. CDS-2010U DESCRIPTION

With its 20kV output, the CDS-2010U is good for fault locating cables rated up to 35kv, having a line to ground voltage of 20kV. The high burn current of 400mA can be used to condition a fault to reduce its arc over voltage to permit thumping at a lower and less damaging voltage level, yet still at full energy. The CDS-2010U can thump a cable at just 5kV yet deliver 1000 joules. Find your fault without making more. There is no better thumper. The CDS-2010U offers the complete package: three full joule output voltages, three variable hipot outputs, the

highest burn current, rapid discharge rate, tdr/radar ready, and its rugged design holds up to years of use. Another plus: all CDS Thumpers use EPR high voltage output cable rather than XLPE. EPR stays flexible in cold weather.

FEATURES

· Single piece combination Hipot, Burner and Fault Locator · Constant energy at each output voltage setting

· Variable discharge rate from 6 – 10 seconds · Motorized output voltage tap switch

· Internal Arc Reflection Filter, standard on all units · Simplified Controls for minimal operator training

· Highest burning capability, compared to other units of same size · Single pulse or continuous discharge modes

· Side mounted storage reel to hold cables and accessories · Output vise clamps for assured contact to test cable and ground · Operation from either line, generator or inverter

1.4.1 CONNECTING DEVICE AR-20 (for stabilization of electric arc)

It allows finding distance to the defect both by classic pulse, and by high voltage method with the use of pulses reflected from the arc in cable (method Arc Reflection). It gives the possibility to quickly find distance not only to the low resistance, but also to complicated high resistance faults in power cables without usage of burn down unit (in RF it got a name « non-burning method»). Connecting device is used for the application of this method (photo up right).

Use a laptop on-site to watch and record the test or store all results in the ADL-1 for later downloading. Windows compatible only.

C. Electrical Safety System

1.8. System providing electrical safety of laboratory’s personnel: Module of grounding control

Module of grounding control (further MGC) is intended formonitoring of connections quality in the circuits of protective and working grounding and prohibition of switching of functional modules in case of fault in grounding circuit.

For additional control it is used a special grounding rod, which is put in the ground near the LVI. It is connected by insulated wire with terminal«AuE».

· Resistance of circuit between terminals of working and protective grounding of module MKZ (summarized resistance of wires of protective and working grounding and also places of their junctions),

which must not exceed 10 Ohm. If the value is bigger than this it is actuated a blocking relay and on the control panel the indicatorGrounding Controlblinks off;

· Potential of terminal «Protective grounding» towards the potential of control grounding rod (actually – potential of LVI body towards ground), which must not be more than 25 V. At the excess of this

potential the blocking relay is also actuated, and on the control panel the indicatorGround Potentialblinks off.

D. High Voltage Connecting Device
