BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to perform forensic examinations on seized digital evidence in criminal investigations. This is accomplished by collecting, processing, and preserving evidence, retrieving data, generating reports of findings, testifying in court, and training departmental staff. Other duties include capturing work for forensic processing, performing general technical duties, and maintaining contacts to help resolve crimes involving digital evidence.

# Code Essential Functions

1 M Analyzes digital evidence by gathering evidence from crime scenes; transporting evidence to the forensics lab and police headquarters; providing an analysis of seized evidence using laboratory software and hardware; preserving evidence; compiling information from criminal investigations; and assisting criminal investigators with the preparation of search warrants.

2 S Reports findings by composing detailed drafts of forensic analysis results and testifying in court when subpoenaed.

3 S Provides departmental training by attending seminars and training classes in forensic software applications; analyzing techniques and other specialized areas; providing computer retrieval; and training departmental personnel on related technology. Assists in

developing policy/procedure as it relates to computer forensics. 4 L Oversees maintenance of computer lab equipment by following

Formal Education Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Experience Three or more years of experience
