Known issues
Known issues
This section describes the known issues of Ensim ServerXchange 2.5, Ensim WEBppliance 2.5, and Ensim WEBppliance 2.3.
Ensim ServerXchange 2.5
The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR).
ControlCenter
If you change the IP address of a ControlCenter, you must restart the Physical Server that the ControlCenter is on in order to access the ControlCenter with the new IP address, and to restart Apache. You must also verify that the new IP address is correct, and that it is not duplicated elsewhere on the network. (5499)
Network installation – KickStart process
• The Microsoft Windows 2000 Server product license key is not validated until install time. If you enter the wrong key, the KickStart process will stall. (5802)
Solution:
Type in the correct product license key and click Next. The KickStart process will resume shortly.
• If the Physical Server contains a Network Interface Card (NIC) that is not supported by standard Microsoft Windows 2000 Server distribution, the Physical Server will not have the network interface configured after the KickStart process. (6147)
Known issues
• The KickStart process has hardware limitations, and will work only if the NICs and/or disk controller card drivers on your Physical Server match the list of drivers on the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD-ROM or the Red Hat Linux CD-ROM that you load on the ControlCenter.
Solution:
Before you start the KickStart process, make sure that the Ethernet card is supported by Microsoft Windows 2000 and Red Hat Linux 6.1.
You can access a list of supported or known unsupported network and storage device drivers at the following URL.
http://www.ensim.com/docs/public/SXC/2_5/hl/hl.html
OpCenter
• OpCenter 2.1.0 is incompatible with the final release of ServerXchange 2.5.0. You must download and install OpCenter 2.5.0.
• OpCenter times out during operations that take longer than 90 minutes. (5340)
Solution:
1 Telnet to ControlCenter to restart the Physical Server.
Note: OpCenter 2.5.0 is backwards compatible with prior versions of Ensim ServerXchange, so you can use it to manage other versions of Ensim ServerXchange that you may have.
Known issues
Physical Server
• There is no network connectivity between a Private Server and the Physical Server on which it resides. If you attempt to access a Private Server from its Physical Server, the operation will fail – accompanied by a host unreachable
or a no route to host message. (7711)
• You cannot simultaneously install multiple instances of the same Service on a newly registered Physical Server. (3819)
• If you have trouble performing operations on the Physical Server, make sure the scroll lock on your keyboard is turned off. (3535)
• If you do not provide free disk space on a Physical Server, and you perform an operation that involves writing to the disk, such as a service installation, the operation will fail. (7108)
• Do not assign the user ID number 65520 to any user. Doing so will void the Ensim warranty.
Private Server
• When adding a Private Server, in the Install Location field, you must enter the full path of an existing directory on the Physical Server - for example,
</usr/serverxchange>. If you only enter a forward slash (/), it will generate an error when adding the Private Server.
• When adding a Solaris NFS Private Server, you must have a disk quota size approximately 100 MB larger than the size of the package option. (5256) • When assigning an IP address to a Private Server, do not use the
ControlCenter IP address. ControlCenter currently does not check for this conflict, and it may cause problems. (5331)
Known issues
Services
• If a Service is missing from Ensim AppXchange, the download error message notifies you that the specification file may be corrupted. (2879)
• Certain Services require more than the minimum 64 MB of memory to run. Check the specific Service’s memory requirements by running top.
• Apache, mod_php, mod_perl, and Microsoft FrontPage extensions are dependent Services. When you upgrade any one of these Services, you must also upgrade the others.
• You must restart Apache after upgrading it.
• You must restart the Physical Server to complete the installation of Ensim VirtualHosting Tools, ColdFusion, and BIND. (5859)
• For Windows 2000 Physical Servers with Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.5 installed, the OpCenter Service Status window will indicate that FTP and POP are not running, since these services are not available at the Physical Server level. (5855)
• The Microsoft Access 2000 package requires a large amount of disk space. If you do not provide free disk space and try to install the service, the service installation will fail and the error message [1107] Cannot push Service to
the Physical Server will display. (6289)
If this happens, provide free disk space and retry the installation process.
Private Server Administrator
Known issues
Ensim WEBppliance 2.5 (Windows)
The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR).
Browser issues
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 sometimes has problems opening a dialog box when downloading files through the Web Server Manager or the File
Manager. (2887, 4771)
Solution:
1 In the Internet Explorer main toolbar, click .
2 In the Actions column of the Log Files window, right-click Download, and select Save Target As.
3 In the dialog box, enter the file name where you want to download. • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 has problems with caching, and on certain
pages, will fail to notify Ensim WEBppliance to carry out tasks. • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 also has problems with cookies and
redirection, which Ensim WEBppliance uses in several instances.
Documentation
Ensim WEBppliance 2.5 User’s Guide - For Windows, page 3-8 (blue Tip: box) indicates that you can preview a virtual site’s Web pages by typing the URL http:<site>/admin where <site> is the host name of a name-based virtual site or the host name or IP address of an IP-based virtual site.
Known issues
Services
• Services display if installed after Ensim Webppliance Suite 2.5, but you must restart Ensim VirtualHosting Tools within Ensim Webppliance Suite 2.5 for changes to take effect. (5951)
• ODBC boundary check is not supported. In the Data Source window, Scan Rows field, typing a value outside the specified limit of 1-16 does not display an error message. (5967)
• Responders and Majordomo are not supported. (5836, 5997, 6040, 6041) • File Manager does not allow you to edit file permissions. (6048)
• Virtual users do not have FTP access to their sites. (5871)
• Web server is always on for a site. You can toggle the Web server options, not the Web server. (5944)
• Site Reports display Web usage logs, but you must ensure that the log file formats for Web and FTP remain unchanged. (5884)
The log file formats for Web and FTP are as follows: • Web – W3C Extended Log File Format
Known issues
Ensim WEBppliance 2.3 (Linux)
The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR).
Browser issues
Microsoft Internet Explorer
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 has problems with caching, and on certain pages, will fail to notify Ensim WEBppliance to carry out tasks.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 also has problems with cookies and redirection, which Ensim WEBppliance uses in several instances.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 sometimes has problems opening a dialog box when downloading files through the Web Server Manager or the File
Manager. (2887, 4771) To correct the problem:
1 In the Internet Explorer main toolbar, click Back.
2 In the Actions column of the Log Files window, right-click Download, and select Save Target As.
3 In the dialog box, enter the location where you want to download. Netscape
Netscape 4.61 and earlier has problems with SSL. If you are using Netscape 4.61 and earlier, disable SSL v3; otherwise, when connecting to the Ensim
WEBppliance appliance, you will see the error message Netscape has
Known issues
Services
• You must upgrade all Private Servers hosting Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.1 or Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.2 to Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3.
You can upgrade in one of the following ways.
• New installation – If this is a new installation of Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3, you must use the Ensim AppXchange portal to first download Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3 and Miva E-Commerce for WEBppliance Add-on 2.13. Once you register them, you can use the Ensim ServerXchange OpCenter user interface to deploy them onto a Private Server.
Within Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3, you must first install the OpenSSL Service, then install the Sendmail SMTP Server Service. This is because Sendmail is dependent on OpenSSL. If OpenSSL is not already installed, the Sendmail installation will fail, impacting the installation of Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3.
• Upgrade to Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3 – If you are upgrading to Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3, after the upgrade you must restart Ensim Virtual Web Hosting Tools and Sendmail, or restart the Private Server hosting Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.3.
When upgrading a large number of virtual sites, you may encounter a timeout issue. The virtual sites are successfully upgraded, but the ControlCenter user interface times out on the action. This will be addressed in a future release.
Known issues
• The upgrade mechanism backs up and restores the customization files, causing the following issues.
• The file /usr/lib/opcenter/base/rollout/welcome.dtml displays the Support link pointing to [email protected], even though it has been taken out of this release. It also displays the old RSA logo instead of the new OpenSSL logo.
• The file /etc/virtualhosting/templates/index.html displays the old Adobe Fireworks instead of the new Macromedia Fireworks.
• The upgrade reconstructs the Apache configuration file httpd.conf, so you may lose any customizations made to a virtual site’s VirtualHost container. However, before the reconstruction, a backup of the file httpd.conf is made to the file
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.domains.bak.
• If the Ensim WEBppliance server file /etc/resolv.conf is edited, the virtual site file /etc/resolv.conf must be updated as well. (6430)
To correct the problem, as root user, type the following command. cat /etc/resolv.conf > /home/virtual/FILESYSTEMTEMPLATE/etc/ resolv.conf
This command will automatically update all existing sites, and all new sites will now use the new file /etc/resolv.conf.
• If you install the POP3 + IMAP Server service after you install Ensim Virtual Web Hosting Tools, Ensim WEBppliance will not be able to retrieve the status of the IMAP service.
Known issues
• Miva E-Commerce for WEBppliance Add-on is an optional Service Suite that contains Miva Empresa and Miva Merchant for WEBppliance Add-on
services. If you try to install any one of these services, and not the other, you will get a service dependency failure.
• When you install the Suite, you must install Miva E-Commerce for WEBppliance Add-on Suite, not Miva E-Commerce Suite. Installing the Miva E-Commerce Suite will install PS Admin, and cause Ensim WEBppliance to break.
• You can add aliases, external email addresses, and virtual users to Majordomo Mailing Lists; however, you should not add a responder (or an alias that points to a responder).
Mails generated by Majordomo and sent to the responder will bounce back, and the ensuing mail cycle will bring down the system.
• Vacation does not work for virtual users on name-based sites, or virtual users with any option other than Telnet enabled. (5990)
• When creating a new virtual site, Ensim WEBppliance does not automatically create a reverse zone file for the virtual site. (6588)
If you do not create the reverse zone before you create the virtual site, Ensim WEBppliance will not append any records to the reverse zone; however, if you created the reverse zone before you create the virtual site, Ensim WEBppliance will attempt to add the site to the reverse zone.
Application-specific issues
Application-specific issues
This section describes the application-specific issues of Ensim ServerXchange 2.5, Ensim WEBppliance 2.5, and Ensim WEBppliance 2.3.
Ensim WEBppliance 2.5 (Windows)
The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR).
ColdFusion
On the ColdFusion Server Administrator window, the Example Applications or Test your Installation options will work only if you access ColdFusion from a local machine. (6107, 6109, 6878)
Microsoft FrontPage
For virtual sites that have Microsoft FrontPage enabled, the user’s name and password are the same as the virtual site owner’s name and password. The Site Administrator may have to specify the host name of the Physical Server as part of the user name.
Example:
Username: <Physical Server>\<SiteAdmin>
where <Physical Server> is the name of the Physical Server hosting Ensim WEBppliance Suite 2.5 and <SiteAdmin> is the Site Administrator’s user name.
Application-specific issues
Ensim WEBppliance 2.3 (Linux)
The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR).
Apache, mod_php, mod_perl, and FrontPage Server Extensions
• Apache, mod_php, mod_perl, and Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions areclosely related. When you upgrade any one service, you must upgrade the others. You must also stop and restart Apache after the upgrade process.
• For sites that have Microsoft FrontPage enabled, the user’s name and password are the same as the site owner’s user name and password.
Apache and SSL
• If you delete the main Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate and restart Ensim WEBppliance, the application runs in a nonsecure mode.
To connect to the Ensim WEBppliance server, type the following URL. http://<WEBppliance host name>:19638/webhost/rollout/
To run the server in a secure mode again, generate and import a new SSL certificate. See the Ensim WEBppliance 2.3 User’s Guide for procedures. • If you generate and import a new SSL certificate, you must restart
Note: When you upgrade Apache, you may have to upgrade other services that rely on Apache as well.
Application-specific issues
• Apache is compiled with suexec support, which is sensitive to security issues and does not run CGI scripts that do not conform to its standards.
When you create a script in your script alias directory, make sure that it is owned by the Site Administrator, and that it is write-protected.
To write-protect a file, use the chmod command. Example:
chmod 755 myscript.cgi generates the following permission setting:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 <u1401> <u1401> 102 Sep 8 05:19 myscript.cgi chmod 700 myscript2.cgi generates the following permission setting:
-rwx--- 1 <u1401> <u1401> 102 Sep 8 05:19 myscript2.cgi
where <u1401> refers to the site owner.
Backup or Restore
• You should not restore any files in version 2.2 or version 2.1 that were backed up in version 2.0. You can, however, restore files existing before the upgrade. (4700)
• Since the Restore process requires a substantial amount of browser CPU and memory, restoring large backup archives may cause your Web browser to become unresponsive.
To correct the problem, use FTP to transfer files, and use the tar utility to manually restore your archive.
