The  Dean  is  the  Chief  Administrative  Officer  of  the  College  of  Pharmacy,  providing   positive,  proactive  leadership  in  core  administrative  responsibilities.  The  Dean  is   responsible  for  academic,  research,  clinical  and  personnel  management  of  the   College.  In  accordance  with  University  Policy  (2-­‐005;  Section  3)  and  the  Charter  for   the  College  of  Pharmacy  (May  2011  revision),  the  Dean  has  the  following  duties  and   responsibilities:    

 

• Serve  as  the  executive  officer  for  the  College  of  Pharmacy  and  report  to  the   Senior  Vice  President  for  Health  Sciences.    

• Chair  the  College  Council  and  the  College  Executive  Committee.  Work  closely   with  the  Executive  Committee  to  set  college  priorities  

• Recommend  the  appointment,  renewal  of  appointment,  or  termination  of   appointment  of  department  chairperson  after  consultation  with  

departmental  faculties.    

• Appoint  assistant  and  associate  deans.    

• Administer  review  of  chairs  and  associate/assistant  deans  in  accordance   with  University  and  College  policy.    

• Ascertain  that  each  department  in  the  College  is  effectively  reviewing   tenured  faculty  members.    

• Work  with  the  Chairs  to  recruit  and  retain  outstanding,  diverse  faculty.   Develop  plans  for  faculty  transitions  as  they  occur.  The  Dean  is  responsible   for  all  personnel  and  hiring  decisions  in  the  College,  subject  to  University   Policies.  

• Promote  faculty  and  staff  development  and  mentorship,  capitalizing  on   University  and  HSC  initiatives  in  leadership  development,  grantsmanship  and   performance  improvement/lean  training.  

• Participate  in  the  nominations  of  faculty  and  staff  members  in  departments   assigned  to  the  College.    

• Appoint  the  chair  and  members  of  College  committees  in  accordance  with  the   College  Charter  and  provides  direction  and  oversight  for  the  charges,

• Is  responsible  for  the  initiation  and  effective  execution  of  all  University   policies  as  they  affect  the  College.  Formulate  and  present  policies  for  the   consideration  of  the  faculty,  provided  that  the  right  of  any  member  thereof  to   present  any  matter  shall  not  be  abridged.    

• Is  responsible  for  oversight  of  policies,  procedures,  and  outcomes  related  to   admissions  and  progress  of  the  college’s  students.  Collaborate  with  UU  and   UUHSC  colleagues  and  leaders  to  support  quality  in  teaching  and  to  advance   interprofessional  clinical  education.  

• Work  with  UU  and  UUHSC  colleagues  and  leaders  to  advance  sustainable  and   successful  models  for  graduate  student  training.  

• Oversee  development  and  implementation  of  the  College’s  strategic  plan  in   collaboration  with  the  Executive  Committee,  Chairs,  Faculty,  Chief  Strategy   Officer  and  Chief  Scientific  Officer  for  the  Health  Sciences  Campus  (HSC).   • Oversee  the  research  mission  of  the  College  of  Pharmacy.  Work  with  UU  HSC  

leaders  and  colleagues,  as  well  as  the  Executive  Committee  and  Chairs  to   identify  research  opportunities  to  be  led  or  participated  in  by  the  College  of   Pharmacy.  Lead  the  College  in  leveraging  strategic  priorities  and  initiatives   across  the  UU  and  UUHSC.  

• Develop  and  manage  a  clear  financial  map  for  the  College  of  Pharmacy,   including  funding  streams  and  recent/expected  changes  in  faculty.  Explore   and  develop  potential  new  sources  of  revenue  for  the  College  of  Pharmacy.   • Annually  make  a  detailed  report  to  the  Senior  Vice  President  for  Health  

Sciences  upon  the  work,  prospects,  and  needs  of  the  college.    

• Prepare  and  recommend  annually  an  operating  budget  and  assure  that   Health  Sciences  and  University  budget  guidelines  are  observed.    

• Is  responsible  for  the  efficient  use  of  space  and  other  physical  facilities   allocated  by  the  Senior  Vice  President  for  Health  Sciences  and  the  President   for  the  needs  of  the  College.

Serves  as  chief  academic  officer  of  the  College  and  reports  to  the  Dean.  Has  primary   administrative  responsibility  for  oversight  of  the  professional  PharmD  Program  and   operations  related  to  the  PharmD  Program.  Has  the  authority  to  ensure  that  the  College   faculty  contribute  appropriately  to  the  overall  success  of  the  PharmD  program.  

 

• Substitutes  for  the  Dean  as  needed  and  completes  assignments  assigned  by  the  Dean   • Serves  as  the  chief  academic  officer  in  the  College,  providing  oversight  for  the  

professional  program,  including  program  accreditation,  admissions,  curriculum,  and   experiential  education.  Coordinate  and  evaluate  all  professional  programs  in  the   College,  including  the  Pharm.D.  degree  and  Pharm.D./Ph.D.  pathway  in  conjunction   with  the  Curriculum  Committee.    

• Works  strategically  and  tactically  with  the  Dean  and  other  members  of  the  Executive   Committee  to  promote  and  implement  the  College’s  missions  and  all  aspects  of   the  College’s  strategic  plan  

• As  a  member  of  the  Executive  Committee  in  the  College,  keeps  the  Dean  and  all   members  of  the  Executive  Committee  informed  of  any  matters  that  significantly   impact  Professional  Education  

• Manages  areas  that  cut  across  professional  and  graduate  education,  such  as  instructio nal  technology,  distance  education,  programmatic  expansion,  and  assessment  

• Works  with  the  Dean  to  oversee  the  budgeting  and  accounting  for  the  Academic  and   Student  Affairs  Offices,  as  well  as  other  initiatives  supporting  the  Professional  Program   • Provides  oversight  to  Student  Affairs  staff  activities,  including  admissions,  advising,  

recruitment  and  affirmative  action,  curriculum,  community-­‐engaged  learning,  

scholastic  standards,  and  awards  and  financial  aid,  as  well  as  maintenance  of  student   records.    

• Provides  oversight  for  the  Professional  Experience  Program  (PEP),  in  conjunction  with   the  Associate  Dean  for  Pharmacy  Practice.  This  includes  activities  of  the  Assistant   Dean  for  Clinical  Affairs,  the  PEP  Director,  and  PEP  staff  

• Provides  works  closely  with  the  Associate  Dean  for  IPE/Assessment  to  ensure

with  accreditation  standards  and  excellence  of  the  Professional  PharmD  program   • Provides  oversight  of  the  College  of  Pharmacy  Continuing  Education  Program  

• Provides  guidance  in  the  development  of  international  strategic  partnerships  involving   education  or  student  training/service  within  the  professional  program  

• Provides  oversight  of  the  College  of  Pharmacy  computer  system  services.   • In  consultation  with  the  Dean,  the  Executive  Associate  Dean  for  Research  and  

Scientific  Relations,  and  the  Associate  Dean  for  Faculty,  assigns  faculty  committee   appointments  annually  

• Serves  as  the  College’s  liaison  with  the  American  Association  of  Colleges  of  Pharmacy   on  all  matters  relating  to  the  professional  program

Responsible  for  assessing  programmatic  outcomes  of  the  College  to  assure   compliance  with  ACPE  Standards.  These  assessments  include:  the  professional   curriculum,  including  student  learning,  interprofessional  education  (IPE),  and  the   PEP  program;  faculty  productivity,  including  teaching,  research  and  scholarly   activity,  and  service.  Responsible  for  developing  and/or  coordinating  IPE  activities   in  the  professional  curriculum  including  IPE  courses,  clinical  experiences,  and  co-­‐ curricular  activities.  

 

Assessment  

• Chair  the  College  of  Pharmacy  Assessment  Committee  

• Implement  a  systematic  plan  for  continuous  assessment  of  professional   student  learning  and  curricular  effectiveness  that  includes  measures  that   meet  current  ACPE  Standards  

• Regularly  conduct  AACP  and  in-­‐house  surveys  of  students,  faculty,   preceptors,  employers,  and  alumni,  assess  this  information,  and   communicate  the  findings,  with  appropriate  recommendations,  to   appropriate  College  standing  committees  

• Work  with  the  Executive  Associate  Dean  for  Professional  Experiences  and   the  Curriculum  Committee  to  prepare  reports  required  by  the  ACPE  to   document  the  excellence  of  the  professional  curriculum

• Represent  the  College  of  Pharmacy  on  IPE  committees  in  the  UUHSC,   including  the  IPE  Advisory  Committee,  advocating  for  interprofessional   curricula  and  clinical  experiences  that  include  pharmacists  

• With  the  Dean's  support,  enlist  active  participation  of  College  of  Pharmacy   faculty  for  the  IPE  curriculum  and  interprofessional  clinical  experiences,   including  simulation  facilitators  and  preceptors
