About DashBoard Beta Software

The DashBoard Beta program allows end users to get a preview of features that are under development in our DashBoard control system.

New features in this program are not released and have not gone through a formal qualification process and may impact the overall stability of the entire DashBoard application. It's not total chaos, it has been tested in engineering but not guaranteed to be bug free.

Although our intent is to get early feedback on new features there is no guarantee that any of these features will be included in future releases.

Why DashBoard Beta?

At Ross Video we like to work closely with our customers and we always appreciate feedback from real end users. We view this as an opportunity to work closely with you in our ongoing development of DashBoard with a goal of creating the world's best control system.

DashBoard Beta Web Server v6.2

Release Date: April 6, 2014

About This Release

The DashBoard Beta Web Server allows many DashBoard user interfaces such as openGear cards and many CustomPanels to be viewed and operated from a web browser.

In particular because DashBoard is run as a desktop application this allows various tablets to operate DashBoard user interfaces over WiFi on your network.

If your intent is to run DashBoard user interfaces on a desktop we highly recommend that you run the regular version of DashBoard, it’s free, has a released stable version, has more features and will run faster. All of that being said, desktop computers are rather awkward to carry around in your hands; so tablet computers certainly have their uses!

New and Improved Features

This section describes new and improved features included in this release.

First Beta Release

This version of the DashBoard Beta Web Server software is the first Beta we are making available. In some ways it is more rightly called an Alpha release.

Please be aware that this version has many limitations and we do not recommend using it for any actual live productions.

This version is being provided to generate feedback and ideas from our users, feel free to experiment and play with it.

We’d love your ideas and feedback to: [email protected]

How to run DashBoard Web Beta Server

1: Make sure the database is running

If you have not installed the postgres database, please read the installation instructions document and do so.

Run the services.msc program (on a windows machine). You can run this by hitting the windows Key+r button and then typing in “services.msc” and hitting the OK button.

How to access DashBoard Beta Web Server pages

In your web browser type in one of the following:

1: IP address followed by port 8080 Example: http://10.0.20.30:8080

2: Name of the machine running the software (if you have DNS resolving for it) Example: http://mymachine:8080

3: Test it on the computer running the web server by using ‘localhost’ Example: http://localhost:8080

How to get the Basic Tree View open

Click on the Gear Icon to the right of the logo to open the Basic Tree View. Double clicking on individual items will open their editors.

How to use Custom Panels

Click on the File Folder Icon to the right of the logo to open the custom panel file navigator.

Very important: In this version of the software ONLY file folders which you currently have expanded in the

DashBoard Web Server program will appear here.

Very important second note: For Custom panels to resize properly within the web page they need to be

resaved within DashBoard with one modification.

In DashBoard, open the CustomPanel and go into edit mode <CTRL-G> right click on the background for the panel and in the popup that appears select ‘publish for web’. Resave this panel and it is not ready to be used in web browsers.

Moving Windows around in the web server

(6)

Drag the menu title, a popup window will now appear that lets you choose where you would like this window to be moved to.

Window tabs can be regrouped by dragging them onto another window tabs menu bar.

Common Problems

Permission Denied

If when clicking on the tool or folder icon you receive a popup which says ‘Permission Denied’ you likely do not have the database software running.

Please follow the description earlier in this document on how to start the database.

Known Issues

Expanding directories in the DashBoard application to have them visible in the web browser will not have the file navigator in the web browser refresh, you must close the file navigator in the web browser and open it again.(click on the X in the upper right corner of the file navigator tab)

Carbonite Production Switchers are not compatible with this version of software

MC-1 Master Control Switchers are not compatible with this version of software Vertical arrays in the ‘default openGear UI’ render as horizontal

Table rendering and editing has many issues currently.

The UI does not handle constraint updating yet.

If a panel is open in DashBoard and open in the web UI, they do NOT share a session. This means you will have problems if you are using <listener/> tags and want to show the UI in both locations.
