SPECIAL SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

(To be read in conjunction with the Season 2020/2021 Alpha Course Sailing Instructions)

1. Eligibility and Entry

1.1 Entry is open to all boats on the RGYC Boat Register that have entered the Club’s Alpha Course racing program for Season 2020-2021.

1.2 Visiting boats may enter at the RGYC office prior to 1700 on the Friday prior to the race, must comply with the Club’s safety and insurance requirements and pay a per race fee of

$30.

2. Rules

The event is governed by the rules as defined in 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

3. Safety

3.1 The safety requirements are as per the Season 2020/2021 Notice of Race

3.2 The Sign on & Sign Off requirements are as per the Season 2020/2021 Alpha Course Sailing Instructions 16.

3.3 Crew Declarations shall be lodged electronically by downloading and lodging a declaration through the “Memberpoint” app PRIOR TO RACING.

3.4 If crew do not have RGYC membership or a current SailPass for that day, a SailPass can also be obtained through the “Memberpoint” app prior to be available for crew selection.

4. Courses

4.1 Club Courses

The course for the day will be selected from the courses in Appendix A. Flag R displayed with the course flag designates that the course shall be sailed in REVERSE, leaving marks on the OPPOSITE hand to that noted.

4.2 Windward-Leeward Courses

The course for the day will be selected from the courses in Appendix B

5. Marks

5.1 For Club Courses, the start and finish mark is an orange cone.

5.2 The marks for the Windward-Leeward courses are described in the table below

Mark 2 Orange Cone

Start / Finish Red & White Cone

5.3 When Charlie Course is using the same start line, its windward mark is a Yellow & White Cube. This mark is not a mark of the course for Alpha Course boats.

7. Division Flags

8. The Start

8.1 Club Course:

8.1.1 The starting line is between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee Vessel at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.

8.1.2 An alternate Start Line may be announced via radio prior to the warning signal.

8.2 Windward – Leeward Course:

8.2.1 The starting line is between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee Vessel at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.

8.3 The Race Committee will decide the starting order of the divisions on the day.

9. The Finish 9.1 Club Course:

9.1.1 The finishing line is between a staff displaying a blue flag on the Race Committee Vessel and the course side of the finishing mark.

9.1.2 An alternate Finish Line may be announced via radio prior to the leading boat passing the mark immediately prior to the finish line.

9.2 Windward – Leeward Course:

The finishing line is between a staff displaying a blue flag on the Race Committee Vessel and the course side of the finishing mark.

9.3 [DP] A boat no longer racing shall promptly clear the finish area and not interfere with another boat that is racing.

10. Handicaps

The handicaps for this series will be allocated by the Club’s handicapper.

11. Time Limit

11.1 The time limit for all boats to sail the course and finish is 150 minutes. This changes RRS 35.

11.2 Boats still racing after the time limit expires will be scored DNF without a hearing.

This changes rule RRS 35, A5.1, A5.2.

12. Scoring

12.1 Two races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

12.2 Discards are;
